Westfield's Delaney kicked a 42 yard FG as time expired to get a big win over Robinson, 29-28. Westfield, who trailed most of the game until the final whistle, found themselves with the ball on their own 21 yard line and trailing by 9 points (28-19, Robinson) with a little over 4 minutes left in the game. They drove the 79 yards and scored with just 1:47 remaining to pull within 28-26. WF then executed a successful onside kick with a wild scramble down the sideline, giving WF the ball back on the Robinson 34 yard line. After a few runs to try to get better field position against a ROB defense determined to stop them as this drive would determine the game's outcome, WF was stopped on the ROB 25 yard line with 4 seconds left. Delaney then kicked the winning 42 yard FG as time expired.

Robinson opened the game with a strong 80 yard drive to go ahead 6-0 on a 1 yard Miller run at the 7:24 mark (XP missed). Westfield also scored on their first possession, a 71 yard drive, with the big play a 70 yard TD pass play from Johnson to Frimpong to put Westfield on top 7-6 with 6:23 to play in the first quarter. Robinson quickly countered with another long drive, this time going 75 yards and capping the drive with a 13 yard TD run from Stewart to go back on top, 14-7 (2XP run) with 1:17 remaining in the first quarter. WF started their next drive at their own 35 yard line and managed to get to the ROB 15, converting two 4th downs along the way, before a penalty and a sack pushed them back and they settled for a 42 yard Delaney FG to pull within 14-10 with 7:21 to play in the half. Each team then punted on their next possession, with Robinson getting one final try in the half starting inside their own 1 yard line but they could not advance the ball past their own 35 before time ran out in the half.

WF got a 59 yard KO return from Hinton to start the second half (his second big KO return of the night, the other being 40 yards after ROB's second TD of the game). Unable to advance much further, WF settled for a Delaney FG, this one from 44 yards at the 10:33 mark to pull WF within a point, 14-13. ROB then put together another 80 yard drive, this one ending with a 1 yard run by Miller to extend the lead to 21-13 with 5:20 to play in the 3rd quarter. WF fumbled deep in their own territory on the next possession and ROB recovered the ball on the WF 19 yard line. With 4th and 4 at the WF 13 yard line, the ROB runner came up inches short and WF got the ball back just inside their own 10 yard line. WF then drove 90 yards quickly, with Frimpong receiving his second TD pass of the night from Johnson and WF cut the lead to 21-19 (2XP pass tipped, incomplete) with 0:30 remaining in the 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter saw Robinson again methodically move down the field on a 78 yard drive, with Scarborough getting a TD on a 10 yard run to extend the ROB lead back to 9 points, 28-19, with 8:25 to play. WF started their next drive on their own 29 yard line but gave the ball back to ROB when they failed to convert a 4th and 6 at the Robinson 45 yard line. On the ensuing ROB possession the WF defense held ROB to a three and out; the ROB punt pushing WF back to their own 21 yard line with a little over 4 minutes to play. Using mostly passes to move quickly, WF's Johnson hit Eckert with a 11 yard TD pass to cap the 79 yard drive and WF now trailed 28-26 with 1:47 remaining, setting up the previously mentioned wild finish.

This was an exciting game. The ROB offense used a good ground game to move the ball quickly, mixing in a few timely passes. WF's offense, although stopped at times and with WF trailing for much of the game, performed very well in the game's closing minutes when they had to and gave their team a chance, just as they did last week at Briar Woods when they pushed the game to OT.

Thanks for a great article. It indeed was a great & exciting game.

I thought Robinson was the better team on field. Its running game was very impressive, with offensive linemen hitting & blocking until the whistle.

Westfield K Brian Delaney also was very impressive.

I cannot disagree with your comment about Robinson's offense and team intensity and they did play like the better team last night. They played very hard and intense and were basically unstoppable on most drives. Frankly, I thought this game was over when Robinson went up 28-19 but Westfield went to work on offense and the defense made the critical stop they had to make. It was certainly lucky Westfield got the onsides kick, but Delaney was like ice last night and really showed what a quality leg he has.
