My son and I were talking Duke basketball and I told him that if I could pick any former or present Duke player and for some reason I could keep him in his Duke prime and could have him as a stater forever I would pick Mike Gminski and the reason why. Now the original G-man did play before most of you were Duke fans but I do think there's enough legacy for most of you to know how great he was, To be honest I really don't think any of you will pick him as our permanent Duke player. What I liked about Mike is he a pure center. Now I know pure centers are thing of the past and the game no longer centers ( pun intended ) around them but here's what he could do. He is a career double/double is posts and rebounding. He was a two time all american. He was a much better than average free throw shooter and of course his field goal per centage was high. He was a rim protected and could handle just about every big man he faced. Defense was no problem or in other words he didn't play turn you head and watch the guy he was guarding goes to the rack. His BB IQ was also high. One more thing and I'm pretty sure about this is he was 16 win he enrolled at Duke and still young when he graduated. My son mentioned Laettner and I can see his point. I can also see Shelden as that type of center also but Mike was a better scorer and free throw shooter. Please tell us who your PDB is and why. I probably will end up agreeing with you. OFC

wow Gminski is a great choice but it's hard not to want Grant Hill to be in the lineup every year.

That's for sure. While I believe Grant is Duke's best ever we've had a lot of players who could do things Grant could but not as well. Gminski was just so blue collar. So consistant. I can't help but think if we had a position "5" player every by ear who could average 18 ppg, grab 10 rug every year and hold his man well below what he averaged and made around 80 % of his free throws how awesome would that be? Can you just imagine Zion being with us for 4 years and seeing just how he coulds be. Might make me change my pick.OFC

One of the reasons Grant is my favorite player ever...he stayed 4 years...not saying Zion should have stayed more than 1 years but I love the 4 year players

And good lordy 4 years of Zion lol...I couldn't imagine that...but it would have been a blast

Bobby Hurley. Pairing all the scoring talent we've had over the last 3 decades with the NCAA assists king would be unbeatable.
