DT gets a free pass here, especially trying to hit the ground running last May. That was his mulligan. I agree that this hire needs to be someone he can live with long term. Otherwise, he will get a tag he doesn't want. I wouldn't expect a knee jerk reaction and a quick hire. He needs to get this one right.

a free pass from what?
a mulligan? what mistake was made?

penn st made zero lightweight noise this year

pokes bring back a champ a finalist and a kid st 41 i like a lot

carl buys gillman back

don’t come here analytical and unbiased
you just ooze penn st

Guess I'm not terribly eaten up by this. Granted I wasn't wanting TG gone but when I was around him he was always just an odd duck. Now that doesn't mean he can't coach but I just can't see long term it being sustainable. Kind of reminded me of what Mike Leach would have been like if he didn't have the funny stories. TS improved but what else did we really get out of our lower weights? It's not like he was some type of lightweight whisperer and milked so much more out of the guys than what they had done previously.

If PSU wants him and he wants PSU then more power to them. I think we will be just fine.

Can't really say I've had too many complaints with the moves DT has made so I'll just sit back and see where the chips fall when it's all said and done.

You need to calm down. Nobody is dying here. It's just wrestling talk on a wrestling board. Sheesh. If you don't like what I'm saying just move on.

Full list of schools with AA’s at the first three weight classes in 2025:

1. Penn State: 3, 5, 3; 46 points
2. Nebraska: 7, 7, 2; 36 points

If PSU’s full team was just 125, 133 and 141, they would have been 8th at NCAAs.

What’s the scoop on why Gilman is going back to State College?
In a nutshell, personal network (family/friends) and desire to compete. He was/is loved by most everybody and leaves here with more lifelong friends than he had before he got here.

His desire to compete, outdrove his desire to coach. His desire to win tore him in both directions. Great dude!

Hilariously,
1. he would be

2. yes

3. no. jesus

Fix is the obvious pick AFTER he decides to hang it up.
An obvious choice but not the only obvious choice. There are lots of great wrestlers out there that want to be coaches. The skillset should match the needs of the coaching staff just like any other job. If Daton has that and is the best choice, great.

This tracks. Thanks for sharing. Hope he made a lasting positive impact on our program. Best of luck to him of course.

Reading between the lines I think this is more complicated than Cael "stole" Gillman. When you hear Gillman is going back to the RTC that is just slightly odd. If he wants to be a college coach (and I have no idea if that is his ultimate goal) it is a step back.

Have no idea if this has any truth to it. The guy sure looked into the program at the Ncaa’s. Sudden change.
His wife missed "home" and I am sure people pushed her to make friends and relationships. That method doesn't always work and sometimes creates some anxiety.

Regardless, she wanted to go back east, Thomas wasn't/isn't done competing and the transition for both was not working how it needed to work. No hard feelings, OSU enjoyed the Gilman's and there was some good that the Gilman's are taking from Stillwater back home. He's a good dude, a fiery dude that operates with alot of passion and that is that. There are no hard feelings that I am aware of.

There want anything rally salacious. I’m an overly curious guy. Seems like a dumb thing for a guy to make up.

Might as well drop it. Gilman didn't and wouldn't leave over an argument, even if it was heated or wasn't with a rich guy. When alpha's get in the same room, arguments are going to happen. Not picking an argument with you either.

The real story is homesickness and desire to compete.

What’s Zo’s strength as a coach? Seems great with rapport, logistics of traveling, getting guys ready to compete out and about… just gleaned from various social media stuff over the years. Would love to know more about his coaching/teaching style
