You’re an interesting dude.

To the OP’s question: I worry that AI will prove to be ruinous. Not just AI but the habit people have of looking up an answer instead of figuring things out on their own. The secret of my success is that no one ever outworked me.

AI is going to take up a lot of jobs. You worry that the educated upper-middle class will vanish.

Not arguing with you about this. I have two young nephews with very fine BA degrees that are doing them absolutely no benefit right now, and likely never will. (One of the degrees is in physics.) It seems as if “follow your dream” is the worst advice nowadays.

You don't go to Walmart do you? :ROFLMAO:
I was driving my oldest daughter and a few friends to a state tournament basketball game a several years ago when a lady of larger proportions walked in front of the car in yoga pants. They all stopped talking and stared at her as she walked by. I said, “Just because they sell them it doesn’t mean that you have to buy them.” They kept cracking up.
I saw one of the girls in the store a couple weeks ago and she said that line to me and said she uses it all the time now. I’m glad I’ve left a legacy of wisecracks.

Why would a degree in physics be useless in today's world? Seems like it could have a direct or indirect benefit toward a great deal of STEM occupations.

As an aside, seeing as my oldest is targeting MIT And Carnegie Mellon to study AI, I'll at least give you a few minute heads up on when he plans to destroy the world and unleash the terminators.

Note that I'm asking about physics because my oldest has an interest in physics, and isn't that much of a fan of other science offerings, so I could see him heading in the direction of physics if something ever went wonky with his current CompSci focus.

Parlay it into a bachelor's in engineering and get a job using physics.
