What’s Wrong with You?

I remember that thread. I read it at the time because I was having terrible shoulder pain. I thought at the time it was just from sleeping wrong or some such stupid thing, lol. I had a couple of injections to alleviate the pain, totally unaware that that I had something wrong with my spine.

I wish you the best bud, sounds like you have a lot more going on than I do, considering your lower back is involved. Everybody has different pain tolerances, but I do believe mine is on the high side. At it's worst mine is a 9 out of 10, hence the trips to the E.R. Best of luck KyCatFan, and thanks for the back and forth info, much appreciated.

Btw, how long was your recovery after your surgery? Was the surgical pain very bad?

I believe both surgeries were around 3 months to fully heal. The actual pain from before the surgery hurt me worse than the surgery pain did. Well except the muscle spasms. That was the most miserable experience of my life. Dealing with the surgery pain and throwing the spasms in was horrible. I'd say a 15 out of 10 in the pain scale. I admit I was on the verge of tears from that excruciating experience. Once the spasms stopped it wasn't that bad compared to preoperative pain.

The hardest thing to deal with during the neck recovery was just trying to lay down. It was murder lowering and raising this big old head without using any neck muscles. Be ready to wear a neck brace a lot after the surgery. I'd make sure you have a very comfortable recliner to rest in for a few weeks because you probably won't like trying to lower yourself down and raise yourself up in a bed. Good luck with everything.

Not being a braggart, 3 years ago I was over 350lbs, i had been hospitalized for asthma and back spasms. I hurt all the damn time in my back, knees and feet. I couldn't even tie up my shoes. I was so ashamed of the shape I was in that I couldn't look at myself in the mirror. One day at work I took a knee just totally exhausted and that was the day I turned it around. My family doctor did a blood panel and my test was barely on the chart so he started me on test replacement therapy. Within a few months I felt more energy. I started going to the gym for the first time in 15 years . Only short sessions at first, just doing my best and building up over time. I also cleaned up my diet and quit fast foods. I'm now around 235lbs and maybe the best shape of my life. I work out 4-6 days a week for about an hour, maybe 2 if I got time. I don't have the aches and pains in my back and joints and everyday activities like carrying groceries in are much easier. Just a little life change over a long time changed my life and took away alot of my aches and pains. One day at the gym I picked up two 50 lb dumbbells and walked around a minute, damn...no wonder I was broke down and hurting so bad. I tell my story in hopes that it helps others. Life is too precious to live it in misery.

I have degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis. PT and traction usedto work but doesn't anymore.

Yesterday I went to my doctor and scheduled spinal fusion for October 10. I believe he's fusing C5, 6, and 7.

The pain has gotten to the point I can't stand it any longer.

I wasn’t being serious.

I’m proud of you. It’s an inspiring story,

I’m kind of in between now. I work out 2-3 days a week, but I’m drinking too much.

I was working out 5 days a week and drinking too much. I need to start working out 5 days a week and keep drinking too much.

I have lumbar stenosis and have had four back operations with fusions. In 1,000 years when they dig me up they will say, "that ole boy had some serious back issues".

But I press on and after awhile you get use to numbness in your feet.

Good luck on your procedure
