Goebel helped me through college.
We used to say it’s a fine beer and pronounced it Shobel!

So now is it 5 bucks and it costs 4.50? I see it ended in 2016.
So a keg of lite was 39.00 at bennigans in 1990. Same keg 2010 was 95. 2018 was 125. Same keg today 150 plus.
It’s not a bad price today for a beer . My wife , son , and I had a simple breakfast order on the upper east side . It looked like Monk’s cafe on Seinfeld . $110. That was a killer.

Where in the world can you find a 1.75 draft beer even at happy hour.

Before I was diabetic, my two go-to economical brews were Yuengling Porter and Straub.

Draft beers for a craft beer run about $7-$10 each these days where I live. The "cheap" beers are macro cans like Modelo, Bud Light and such and you're lucky if you find one of those for $5 at a bar.

Don't drink near what I used to. But when I do I make sure its a good one and not ****** level. I see that Yuengling here in Philly is still reasonably priced for 12 packs. I don't mind Landshark for something easy drinking. I stay away from any Lite beer as much as I can.

$7-10 for crafts is about right. When I go out I always end up ordering two pints of the local stuff, I normally don’t finish either one. The breweries and restaurants need the money. There are five breweries within ten minutes drive of my house, how they can stay solvent is beyond me. Their stuff is delicious, I gotta say.

This made me think of Stroh’s. A decent beer.

When I was a student, Straub was deceptively economical from Nittany Beverage as they were 16oz, returnable/deposit bottles compared to the usual 12oz. Are returnable/deposit bottles still a thing?

I can’t answer your question but bringing a case of quarts up to 4th floor Beam Hall was definitely a thing.

I haven't had a drop of alcohol for more than five years now. I do, occasionally, partake of a NA beer and I must say, Genesee makes one of the best NA beers. I know...not Genny! Yep, Genny. I like it very cold.
I used to love JW Dundee Honey Brown lager made by…..Gensee. I see it’s still available on the internet, but I never see it in stores. I’m sure my distributor would order it for me at a significant premium.

Any Northeast PA or upstate New Yorkers drink Old Vienna? That was a good cheap beer back in the day.

What was the name of the beer distributor near the old bus station? (Hope my mind isn’t playing tricks on me, been 50 years.)

Ozujsko. My favorite beer and very inexpensive if you don’t count the cost of going to Croatia to get it.

Nittany Beverage is on Patterson, three blocks behind the bus station. There used to be another in the same area, but I can't remember the name.

Now I'll have Nittany Bev's radio jingle stuck in my head for the rest of the week.

Make it your choice Nittany Beverage,
buy it by the keg or case or can.

Pile up the beer, chips and soda,
you’re in, you’re out at Nittany Beverage now.

The first beer I ever drank - stolen from the old man’s stash in the basement.

The first beer my brother & I ever attempted to drink was an old can of Shamokin's finest, Fuhrmann & Schmidt, that we found while helping clean out a neighbor's basement. This was an old, slightly rusty can that required a puncture type can opener to poke a hole in it to drink. I don't think either one of us managed more than two or three sips before we chucked it.

This would have been sometime in the late 70s or early 80s. According to the internet, Fuhrmann & Schmidt closed in 1975, and 75% of breweries had adopted the pull tab opener by 1965. I have no idea how old that beer was.

As a Mt Carmel kid , I would carefully pinch a few off my grandparents . Bleech . I don’t recall any tears when the brewery closed . My great grandfather had a “micro brewery “ in the early 1900’s in the area . Alas he didn’t turn into the next Adolphus Busch .

I later learned that the old timers in Sunbury claimed that F&S was short for F’n $h!#

Centre Beverage was the other one that was back there off College Ave. Pletchers bought them and moved it to Aaron Drive.

Oh man… thanks for loading me up with the ear worm :)

I kid… thinking of that is quite nostalgic for me.

Another vote for Miller Lite here. And Rolling Rock.
