What a Joke

Another championship game. Another rout. How can the IHSA justify these matchups? I mean Nazareth is a very good football team and deserves the championship it will win today, but good Lord, this is an absolute joke. LWW does not belong on the same field with them, but I guess in the interests of wanting a public school to have a chance to win a title, they give a team like West a chance to rampage through the downstate schools in 5A, I guess that also says a lot about the quality of the football downstate in 5A, to make it to a championship game where they are totally outmatched and outplayed and outcoached in one half. The IHSA does NOT care about the quality of football played in its marquis matchups. If it did, it would not schedule the true title game in the quarterfinals, like it did this year.

The goofy seeding of CPS schools as #1's and #2's to give them a shot at a win usually results in embarrassing outcomes. The whole system is flawed. Divide the publics and privates...separate championships.

Should Phillips not have been a top seed?

Did open enrollment just start in the CPS? Because other than the last couple seasons Phillips football program has been brutal.
Phillips is recruiting and picking up transfers the last two years

Worst year ever. How can you have such bad mismatches throughout the classes. I have turned every game off before halftime. I'm thinking separate them. Boundary vs. no-boundary that is.

Not unlike EVERY OTHER CPS SCHOOL! You don't think Morgan Park or Simeon don't do the same? Look at basketball. The whole CPS in basketball is sponsored by Atlas Van Lines.

Phillips is a remarkable story I wish people would stop downplaying it because of transfers or whatever excuse they wanna make.

If the iHSA goal is to get more competitive games as well as generate more revenue, how about going to 5 classes, with 64 teams making playoffs in each class. Regular season would be 8 games. More teams would make the playoffs (320) vs. current 8 classes of 32 (256). IHSA would get an additional playoff game of revenue. Seed all 5 classes 1-64. Teams not making playoffs would be encouraged to schedule a ninth game vs another non playoff qualifier.

The joke was that Nazareth was in 5A. Great team no question but no business playing in that class

They win 6a and get moved down to 5a because Montini and SSH were forced to 6a. You win a State title they should have to stay in that class for the next year to defend the title.

Not sure newt.

If shg and bronco are 5a, and things seeded correctly, 1-32, there would have been a few more good games. Look at what lww did on their side of the bracket.

One last time tonight, we just don't have enough good teams to support 8 classes. It is noy just about the title games, it's about the run to them as well.

Fact of the matter, 6 classes solves all of this.

Actually, Montini and SHG moving to 6A had nothing to do with Nazareth being in 5A. There were still 6 or 7 5A schools that had a higher number than Nazareth.

does anyone know who the exact people are who proposed the success factor and who the people who voted it in? Like actual names.

This is straight karma on the ihsa, they make it as hard as the could for a Montini not to win state, but in the end because of their dumb rule they get a private champ in 6A and 5A. Glad it blew up in their face but I'm more mad we got cheated out of Montini Naz championship game.

I just started a thread about that point. We were typing at the same time.
