I am so happy and so excited and jealous of those of you waking up in Sacramento today.
Thanks to CCC for keeping the faith, for pounding the rock, for leading this team to heights we couldn’t have anticipated in October.
I have so much respect for Boo’s growth and leadership, for Audige’s energy and athleticism, for Barnhizer’s growing confidence, for Nicholson’s perseverance, for Berry’s infectious smile, for Beran’s steadiness, for Martinelli’s no-fear attitude (and janky lefty game), for Verhoeven’s joyful, enthusiastic willingness to give this program a chance. (I respect the others too.)
In what has been a very rough year so far in my world, I’ve been able to look forward to every game in the calendar, been able to enjoy every competitive minute (I missed most of the Michigan and Maryland games), and been able to just engross myself in the improbable real-life joy that only unscripted competition involving a whole mess of humans can bring.
All of those locker room celebrations — the stupid water bottle baths, the absurd dancing, the whooping and hollering as the victories kept stacking — those have been felt in my home almost as much as they have in the locker room.
Thanks to these Cats. Thanks to all the fans. Thanks to this coaching staff.
Three more weeks to go. How fun!
