If that’s the case there are a lot of young guys with whom I work that need to stop wearing them. They’ve got tons more flab hanging over their belts than me and I’m 2-3 times their age.
I am 77 and wear 34x32 jeans. In the winter they are lined.
It depends on what you are doing. I see a lot of guys in their 60s and 70s on m/c and they are wearing jeans and it's fine. If they are in the trades, and still working - also fine. Honestly, as long as they are clean, and fit well, no issues with a person of any age wearing them.
My father, a dyed-in-the-wool engineer, did not start wearing jeans until he was in 50s. He felt it was not appropriate for him.
Leather pants on older men - that is a different story. I think the only old guy who can wear leather pants and not look foolish would be Keith Richards.

Rod Stewart hopefully isn't still giving them a go. A few old pothead members at the club went to see him at Hard Rock a few weeks ago. They said he was great.
I find Jorts to be more problematic than jeans.
I wore nice jeans while teaching. Perks of the profession, I guess. You never had to worry about wrinkles, a big plus.

I've never been a fatass, but my peak was maybe 205. I've shrunk to 6' and am around 165 now. The only jeans that really fit anymore are 2 pairs of Levis that I brought to FL with me in 1986.

You shouldn't be tucking shirts into jeans, unless you want to be mocked as a geeky old fart (or you have something untucked over top of them). That's embarrassing.
Jeans are not appropriate to mow the lawn ... unless the "lawn" is farmland/wilderness. Shorts or athletic/sweat pants are the only acceptable lawn-mowing attire.
When I am 70 I will wear a suit and tie to cut the grass. Sarcasm.
Jeans are fine for anyone at any age. It really just depends what, where and when you wear them just like anything else.

Shirts are mandatory for mowing. Otherwise, it's either an abomination, or douchey.

I’m with you… I reject the very premise of the question.
Although I pre-empt jeans with shorts if at all possible. Down into temps of the 40s. Maybe even the 30s if it’s not windy.
Speaking of douchey. If I see anyone in those pants, it makes me want to punch them. I don’t care if they have the lion head on them.
