What age did you get your first and/or last tattoo if you have more than 1?

My wife who is a recent member of the 40's club must be going through a mid life crisis because out of the blue she says she wants a tattoo. Neither of us currently have one and I am curious if others got their first tattoos later in life or if they are older and still get them.

First and last at 19, wish I didn't have it but whatever. Its between my shoulder blades so I can't see it so that makes it a little better I guess.

I got my first when I was 31 while on vacation with my wife and kids. Wife and I both got one for the first time that trip. My last was when I was 36 or so. I am glad I waited as long as I did because I love all of the ones I got and they are very meaningful to me rather than just something that is silly and I thought would look cool when I was young.

I’m 60 and have thought I might get one. Still torn in the idea. Not 100% certain there’s anything I want permanently inked into my skin. But at age 60, “permanent” is a much shorter time span than it once was.

First at 18. Last about 2 months ago, next one will be in September. I'll be 45 next month. Probably won't stop until i'm dead or covered from the chin down.

My advice to anyone is to look around at different shops and find an artist whose style you like. And don't look around for the best deal. You get what you pay for.

I have a junkie alcoholic cousin who has a lot of tats. And I know that a lot of people in prison have them. So I'd say go for it.

You guys can get matching tramp stamps. They are as bad as the barb wire tattoo’s, but some chicks can pull it off. Furthermore, you should get a set of lips tattooed on your neck, as it seems that attracts all women. You should ask your wife what is it about her boyfriends tattoos that make him so attractive to her.

Bottom line, if you’re going to get a tattoo, get something that means something, and don’t put it in some language you don’t understand like a tribal tattoo or the infamous Chinese lettering those are terrible. Maybe the date you guys met, kids names, or some bad *** quote a guy like Patton said.

Interesting, I got my first at 40. I was in Dublin, Ireland traveling with my gf at the time who’s father was born there. It was her idea. A green Celtic cross with a bleeding heart in the middle on my left calf. Intricately detailed. The artist was talented. Bonnie got a tiny heart on her dainty little right ankle. Worked for me. As a poster above noted if your going to do it get one that means something to you. I am a Celt of Scotch Irish descent, and I’ve always had a thing for pretty redheads, especially ones with dainty little ankles.

When i was younger I wanted a tatoo of snake eating it's own tale (circle of life) but never could decide where to put it, so never did get one.

Ahh...The Paddock's general condescending attitude about ink. How about you do you and leave others to their own devices? Or do you want to hear my opinions on drinking cases of Bud Light and 3000 calorie diets?

First when I was 34 or 35, Celtic symbol for love with my wife's initials below. Followed by a Celtic cross, a trio of trinity symbols, caricatures of the first 3 dogs that were family to my wife and I with wings and halos, a 26.2 design for my first marathon because only pussies settle for car stickers, and a dio de muerte skull holding a rose. Probably got it at 43 or so. I want to get one for my ultra marathon, and another design as well. Just waiting for the right time.

My advice is - know your life and career. If you can't show it use your upper arms and shoulders. And use sunblock to protect them. And spend the money. Cheap is cheap.

40. Got it last weekend. I've lost 2 wedding bands over the years and haven't had one in about 2 years. Wife and I were doing a pub crawl and at one of the stops she was talking about getting me a new band. Told her that I had been considering getting her name tattooed on my ring finger. Walking to the next bar we pass a tattoo shop and I go in and get it. She got my name tattooed on her upper back while we were there. She already had a tattoo from 20 years ago. Been married for 15 years so I figure we are stuck with each other and it was safe to do.

Going Tuesday for a consult on one that I have been wanting for a long time with family crests incorporated. Midlife crisis I suppose but you only live once. Getting close to retiring from a hazardous duty job and don't really plan on working for the man anymore after that.

Got my first and only one when I was 13. It was a tattoo of a period ( . ) on my left thigh. I flicked the ear of the guy sitting in front of me in class and he reached back and stabbed me in the thigh with an ink pen. It's gone now but I'd say I got a good 30 years out of it.

Same thing happened to me, but it was a girl with a pencil. That mark stayed on my thigh for years.

I’m not sure what part of my flabby assed body would be most flattered by a tattoo but I’ve always considered it. My thing is my evolving taste. I might really love something for awhile and then, meh. Anyway, y’all remember the old poster here who had a tramp stamp and was a dude?

My first one was at 47. I made a commitment to myself and my girls, that if the Cubs ever won the World Series, I would get one. I now have the Wrigley Marquis with "2016 World Champions" on my chest. Hopefully wont be my last one...but we are talking about the Cubs.

Just when you start wondering if the whispers of you being crazy are true it turns out you’re fine. I too stabbed a guy in the left upper thigh with a pencil in high school because he said something I didn’t like. Based on this thread roughly 10% are likely to do this, almost common.

Thanks for turbocharging my memory. He didn't realize what a mistake he'd made until later in the day. Let him get away with that and sixth graders would be coming at you.

First I was 21...last maybe 25ish?

I am 39 now....I will probably get at least one more as a cover job to one that I have on my ribs/side.

Wife is 32 and working on a sleeve on one arm over past 3 years or so...gets one every year on her b'day.

I actually like tats...just wish I would have gotten different ones.
