Well he needs at least 1 energetic younger offensively smart assistant that he will listen to. And that's never happening so who knows

What are the odds that the OP could coach to more basketball victories than Adolph Rupp? A zillion to one, maybe? Nah, not even that close. I know people are disappointed but don't add stupidity to the mix. It reflects badly on you.

There’s over $3.5 million reasons he won’t given they have 20 wins (which given the increased # of games played in a season doesn’t signify what it used to) and no NCAA issues (and short of murder, rape, or an assistant coach sodomizing children in the shower, the NCAA doesn’t investigate or punish anymore).

Huggins will return for that contract. Generational wealth at $3.5 million plus annually. And if he retires it’s like another Bear, (ie Bryant) said, “Quit coaching and I’d croak in a week!” The other Bear died 27 days after coaching his last game of a heart attack.

I'd say 50/50.

Anything could happen, he could very well have health issues (real ones).

I would place my money on him being back next year.

If you're implying this is the kind of season which retires a coach, then you are silly goose.

Point is, who would come to WVU that is a BETTER coach at WVU than Huggins, who is with Fred Schaus, Red Brown and Dyke Raese as the best basketball coaches in Mountaineer history? And stay! You don't throw out the baby with bathwater because you're unhappy with a 20-victory season. Not unless you're stupid.

For someone who professes to be the consummate cheerleader for your alma mater, you sure do have a low opinion on the University, athletic prestige, and the Morgantown area if you have no confidence in WVU to bring in a good coach and keep him.

You need to stop being a troll and hater against WVU, WVU athletics, and WV in general.

I'm a supporter of the Gold and Blue. It's a shame that you don't care about the continued success of your alma mater or support the heroes in WV uniforms.

Won't know until they come here and start winning a few games..... And he doesn't have to be BETTER than Huggs (as good as is fine), at this point different would be a welcomed change...

The fact that you do not believe WVU can attract top-level coaching is sad. It's sad that you have such a low opinion of WVU, its fans, the community, and the tradition. It's sad that you cannot imagine WVU in a better position in the future than it is today.

I believe that WVU athletics are bigger than one person and capable of continued growth. It's sad that you don't think the same. Sad.

3.5 million dollars brings in quite a coach.

Call me crazy, but I'd be pretty ok with the same record but with scores in the 70s and 80s, with smiles on the players' faces during wins, an encouraging coach who at least appears to be engaged with the game instead of pouting on a stool and bitching at the refs, and losing games due to bad luck, being out-played or out-talented, not out-schemed or stolen because the players are mentally and physically worn out.

Well at some point in the not-so-distant future WVU will need to hire a new basketball coach, it's not like we can avoid it.

Its not always a matter of better, but right for the time.

We wont pay the new coach 3.5 million.

Neal Brown is at $3.1 million.

Huggins is at about 3.75 million. WVU won't simply transfer that salary over to a new coach.
I guess we will be scraping the bottom of the barrel if we can only come up with a pittance like $3.1 million.

You never know if a comment on a message board is factual or not, but I read a WVU poster who said in a thread similar to this that Warren Baker is a neighbor of his "and that's all I'll say." Interpret that any way you wish.

Texas pays Shaka Smart $3.1 million.

We will probably pay closer to $2 million depending on the coach.

Scott Drew makes $2.75 million.

We will most likely bring in a younger coach, we wont reset the market.

This is perhaps the dumbest thing I've ever read on a message board. That includes some of Buck Boys BS.
