What are we going to do in the off-season about this O-Line?????

Re Yenser I wondered that as well. Especially after comments were made pre-season that Yenser "would follow Schlarman's lead" of rotating guys. Just really puzzled Goodwin, Young, Rodriquez, Wohlabaugh didn't get a series here and there. Frequently what teams will do is play backups a series or 2 in the 2Q to rest starters. That respite plus halftime allows starters to be fresh for 2H. Not UK.

They were all only ok. They were just inconsistent both individually and as a group.

I didn't say he shouldn't be rotated in. I think he, Wilson and wohlabough should've been. Not sure why they weren't and it's a fair question.

There was chatter that unit didn't put as much effort as they could into learning the scheme. Was that an issue with rotation? Was it an issue overall?

Hopefully we eventually get some explanation on what went wrong and what fixed it

We rarely have a pass play where the entire line does their job. There is almost always one or more players that miss an assignment or get whipped up front. This unit is bad.
I agree with 1st half of statement, but the units was poorly coached. Plenty of talent on oline

1. Fire Yenser...he's not the guy
2. Feed them and get em bigger as mentioned.
3. Portal, Portal
4. Cox isn't bad a C...but damn Flax is a mess and Burton is pretty bad as well. I hope Burton just needs to get bigger but Flax looks like he's a bust as a Jr. Goodwin is a total mystery to why he can't get on field. John Young is a pretty high rated kid that has not sniffed PT. If Wohlbaugh plays next year...might as well not watch. Buford is decnet IMO...if he's a guard them move him inside. But to bench him for Flax is nonsense.
Yeah dont understand Burton stugglin so much because he is really good athlete like Cox, quick on feet agile etc. I think it really is a little more strength needed and learning the position better because he got lost a lot on switch offs etc. But his run game was not bad as he didnt have to think, just used his athletic abililty to go. I think he may be one we talk about next year as the most improved.

Hopefully they won't have to run the zone blocking scheme that Rich installed and can get back to being the man passing scheme and power blocking line that they are all built for. Size, strength, block the guy in front of you and pound on them. They were way too big and not agile enough to zone block.

I'll be surprised is they don't stay with the wide zone blocking. If you bring in the Rams OC, don't you expect he will implement the Rams offence to a significant degree?

So, with Marques Cox at LT and Horsey back at guard, can this group run a wide zone scheme?

The problem is that Coen tried to run a zone blocking scheme also but Stoops shut it down around week 4 of Coens' season.

That is a problem that two years into it and we still stink. At what point do you scrap the idea and go back to what you did well?

Thanks for the info. So, did we try wide zone blocking again this year? I though that was part of the problem with the OL.

We used zone blocking all season and IMO, other than Horsey playing out of position was why we struggled so badly.

One more question, if one uses zone blocking on running plays, does this carry over to pass protection blocking? IE can you use a conventional scheme for pass protection but zone blocking for running plays?

Good question.

Pass protections is pretty much not related to run blocking scheme with exception of play action. That is why NFL guys love zone blocking....you pretty much can't read it on run vs. play action...so the linebackers can't see their reads.

I don't think our OL can see their own reads.
