Feeling like jammin out to a road trip playlist, even though I will not be doing a road trip this weekend.

This is a must-listen for any road trip….


Nearly impossible to stay near the speed limit if this is cranked up loud…

If you liked The Allman Brothers … I can practically guarantee you will really enjoy END OF THE LINE … an ABB tribute band, comprised of stellar musicians out of the Nashville scene.

One of my favorite best-of albums is Stevie Wonder’s “The Definitive Collection”. It contains 21 tracks of musical brilliance.

The opening track is this gem. Little Stevie Wonder was just 12 years old. He sings and plays harmonica on this track. During this live recording Stevie was killing it. And the crowd was going nuts. This 1963 show featured many performers. At about the 2:00 mark in the recording the MC was trying to get Stevie off stage so the next act could come out. Stevie’s backing band was quickly leaving the stage and members of the next band coming on. Stevie, feeding off the crowd, started back into the song. At about the 2:23 mark there’s a mix of members of both bands trying to join him, and you can hear the new bass player yell, “What key? What key?”. The song went on for another minute with a mix of two backing bands.

Been revisiting Wonder lately and I've come to realize that even though I grew up with his music, I never fully appreciated (or lacked the knowledge/experience) just how absolutely phenomenal he was. That 5 year stretch he went on with Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingness' First Finale, and Songs in the Key of Life has no peer. Just absolutely astonishing.

Same with me. I listened to lots of the Motown/Soul/R&B acts that were consistently played on the radio during mid-60s thru mid-70s. Never fully got on board as my tastes were more towards RnR and blues-based rock. And you are spot-on right about his mid-70s run of albums and songs. Phenomenal run!

Just picked up 1966 1st Pressing Mono Vinyl of The Beach Boys LP "Pet Sounds" so got that spinning on the turntable.

If the topic is new music, I listened to a new album called "Cruel Joke." by a young Oklahoma woman named Ken Pomeroy. (Yes, same name as the guy that does sports ratings.) Good stuff. I guess it's in the Americana/folk category. I'll be interested to see how her career develops.

Dave's still got it. Always loved this band. His throat cancer has made his voice better at 63.

Dug out Duane Allman's Anthology album . The guy was only 24 years old when he died. What a life he led at such a young age.

Mr Buddy Guy. This dude has been performing since the late 50s. I love this dude. I’ve seen him play live three times and each time he simply kills it.

Currently bingeing the 8th album by The Cold Stares. They are a super-hot name right now in the Blues-based rock genre. Singer/guitarist/song-writer, Chris Tapp, and drummer, Brian Mullins, both from Madisonville KY, started the band back in 2009. This 8th album (The Southern pt 2) dropped yesterday, and of course I bought it immediately. These are all from that new album.

QQ used to play entire albums, start to finish on Sunday nights back in the day. The played Animals when it came out. It was a seminal moment in 14 year old HK's life. I like all of PF's albums in one way or another, but this, for me, was their high water mark.

Buddy Guy is cool in that recent vampire movie. Stay past the credits for Buddy.

I am listening to a lot of Dylan, Dylan covers and other folk rock due to that Dylan movie.

And a bit of Johnny Winter And in honor of Rick Derringer.
