Who released the recruits testimony? Pitino said he doesn't think the NCAA would release any info. I was thinking the college released the statement.
CBS only named a "source with knowledge of the NCAA's investigation." The NCAA didn't, and won't, officially release any details of the investigation until it is concluded. But that doesn't mean some enterprising journalist can't get in touch with an NCAA official through back channels and get information.

and usually they don't even name the athletes officially. they always say "Student Athlete 1", "Student Athlete 2", etc and it's up to media/fans to connect the dots on who's who.

The board may have had enough of the negative image that's been cast upon them and with how the athletic department is being run in general. I don't think they took too kindly when Jurich basically forced them to vote on rehiring Bobby Petrino with Bobby sitting right there at the table next to him. Plus the constant negative publicity of bringing in transfer after transfer with checkered pasts. They thought things were all peaches and sunshine with basketball until this now. I'm guessing they've had enough.

Has there been any thought that McGee could be in deeper, money wise? That he was given more money than what he doled out to Katina and her crew and pocketed the rest? Not sure how any of that could be proven, other than bank transactions but doubt that could be proven as well. Just a thought.

Been checking out the UL board, which I rarely do, and feel completely dumber for doing so. My God, zip and his ilk have their heads so far up their asses, it's incredible.

Their Goose is cooked.

If I was Rick, I would resign take a year off and if he wanted to get back in coaching, make no doubt about it he will get a call to coach again.

This. He could easily end up here in Vegas like he should have done years ago when he took the Louisville job. Dave Rice coaches like *** and plenty of hookers to access in sin city. The irony would be epic.

Seems to me that the President's statement today was meant to separate himself and Jurich from whatever went on. I kind of feel sorry for Pitino because I doubt that he knew the details of what was going on. Yet, it seems that President Ramsey is much more than willing to make him and McGee the scapegoats.

The culture of the athletic dept. has been set by Jurich. He and Ramsey are in cohoots up to the neck. They will do what they have to do to protect their kingdom (and exhorbitant salaries) in my opinion. That means that Pitino and others in the basketball program are expendible.

and in the mind of the casual fan all across the country ITS US that are the cheaters, its us that is all that is wrong with college athletics. Nothing is going to change that, even if we are the cleanest program in the land because we fixed it 30 yrs ago AND because we have to be. It's not in espn's agenda to let the country know any different. Lets show class even if no one will recognize it. Let's worry about uk.

NCAA does whatever they can to protect title winners and the sanctity of their club. Memphis runner up finish vacated cause they lost. Kansas won and Darrell Arthur still hasn't graduated from high school. If the Fab 5 at Michigan had come through and won a couple titles instead of lost a couple they would have been left alone. I expect L'ville to get destroyed, death penalty even. UNC is gonna get off much lighter I fear. Both will keep their banners I'd bet.

Michigan and the Fab 5 is one of those 10 Vacated Final Four

cant link it...what does it say?

what do you mean?
These "kids", as you say, were at least 17 years with a lifetime of adult experience. They have had hookers and strippers at their beckon call for years. They knew what they were doing, no supervision should be needed, if they are true L1C4 men.

“After one upset victory at Rhode Island,” the book says, “Pitino was so juiced he ordered the team bus to stop at a strip joint on the way back to campus. There he led his players in wolf whistles, even disbursing dollar bills so they could stuff them into the dancers’ G-strings.”

Yes absolutely. All his little snide comments are getting old. He sounds like a typical ul fan blaming uk for this

Impermissible benefits seems a given.

Failure to monitor seems a given.

Lack of institutional control (the big one) probably depends on how much more is corroborated and how UL decides to handle this.

If they clean house and admit to everything, they may get off relatively easily. If they continue to make boneheaded statements like the one Ramsey gave today praising Jurich, or decide to fight this, then I could see a one year death penalty and the loss of a title.

The Director of Basketballs (McGee) will get all the blame from the UL Athletic Department. He Is now at UMKC on 'leave'.. Everyone needs a Fall Guy; he is the man.

I could be wrong but I honestly don't think Rick knew about this. If I was an unknowing coach in the midst of a scandal like this, people were calling for my job, and the AD was giving me zero support, I'd pretty much say whatever I felt like. Kind of a "screw it, do what you gotta do. I'll do my job until somebody tells me otherwise."

You are wrong.

All this happens and NOTHING gets back to the coach? No players talking about it, no assistant coach or dorm RA saying anything? NOTHING gets leaked and back to RP? Please, he knew it was going on. No way Mcgee is going to treat RP like that and stab him in the back.

It's one thing if it happened a couple times....but we are talking YEARS.

Many on here believe that UofL will keep Pitino because they have no morals...

The reason that he stayed after the Sypher scandal is because they believed that he was still the guy that gave them the best chance to win.

That won't be the case going forward.

The "win at all costs" mentality at UofL will be what ends up getting Pitino his walking papers.

Those ain't your buddies Rick!!

They just want to win...

I just listened to the interview.

I actually believe Rick and dont think he is lying. It didn't sound like his typical orchestrated crap.

I think he's legitimately caught off guard.

That said he has to fall on the sword if the right details are confirmed.

Doesn't matter if they pin it all on him, the NCAA now holds the head coach responsible for the actions of those under him, even said coach purports to have known nothing of what transpired.

Many have said that a LOT of people on campus knew, but a micro manager like Pitino didn't?

Sounds like a lack of institutional control to me...

I've been reading this thread without posting since the story broke, and after 30 years of hearing the crap that comes out of UL Fans mouths, all I can say is "There is a God and he has finally answered my prayers"
May STD U(of L) catch every incurable form of super clap known to man and wallow in infection to my delight for months to come

The more these Louisville idiots open their mouth the deeper the hole is being dug. Every time I hear one of them speak on this I just feel like they are pulling on that loose thread and the whole ball is about to unravel. Hey Louisville, desperation is a stinky cologne.

An article on the Internet comparing morals clauses in college coaches contracts Cited Pitino's 2010 contract which was probably carried over to his current one. Section 6.1.2 requires "wilful misconduct " on his part . Hard to show if he had no actual knowledge of what was going on.

If UL wants him gone fine. I haven't seen his entire current contract but Unless another provision trumps it they need to write about a fifty one million dollar check to get rid of him. Seriously doubt he will resign.
Would make Charlie Weiss look like a pauper.

Right. My point is, if they had actually pulled out the win, they wouldn't have vacated the title. The surest way to safe guard yourself from the NCAA is win it all... or be Duke. Win it all or be Duke and you're safe. The stuff Kansas pulled with Arthur was worse than the stuff that Rose might of pulled (almost certainly did), but Memphis loss so banners came down. Kansas won so NCAA trumpeted their champion as all that was right in the world.
