Hey all, brianpoe was writing as BeasleyCard. Quit blasting your fellow cat fans when they try sarcasm or humor. By the way, some of those new hammers which have magnets or grooves to help you hammer with one hand are actually pretty smartly designed. They are smarter than a typical card fan.

I've been saying it for years now how corrupt UL athletics is while so many on here have praised Jurich and how great he is. He's not going to suspend or fire Pitino. This is the same man that didn't fire him after the Sypher scandal and re-hired Petrino. Pitino gets to stay as long as he wants because he knows Jurich won't fire him.

It wouldn't be cowardly. Actually, given that he knows all these things are true, and likely told McGee to do whatever was necessary to improve recruiting while he looked away, it would actually be honorable to just resign and go away.

Buy let's be clear. Rick has had a blank check in Louisville pretty much from day one. The way he managed to skate by with the Sypher affair still amazes me. Pride is what is still driving him, and a belief that he can just pull some strings, make some calls, and this whole thing will just go away. And even if he's 100% guilty on all counts, he won't admit it until there is absolutely no way around.

I am going to have a different "take" on this. I am not defending it or suggesting UL shouldn't be hit hard. But, from articles I have read and people I have encountered that would know, way in the past this was not a-typical for college recruiting. In the old days there was the hundred dollar handshakes, boosters who would give high paying jobs to the recruits who did nothing in reality, certainly sexual stuff from female fans, and much more. Even at Kentucky when I was a Freshman, fraternity parties with everyone underage (including a couple basketball players whom I shared classes with) were there with strippers, drinking, and back room activities. So, "Sinking to the depths" I don't know if I will be moralistic about any of this.

Now, what I shared for the most part (other than the money handshakes) was not a part of trying to convince a recruit to attend the program as UL did. And, even if it was, that was in a different time. As much as I disrespect the NCAA it does have clear rules established that everyone is supposed to follow. What UL did was completely unacceptable. The violation seems clear and there are specific sanctions that should be applied.

Yet another scandal at Louisville! Nobody should be surprised. And nobody should be surprised with what happened today.

What exactly happened today? In my mind, it was the same "business as usual" mentality that has permeated U of L athletics for most of the last decade. With the news that at least two young men verified at least some of what the school has been accused of, predictably, U of L leadership reacted accordingly. And when I say accordingly, I mean predictably.

Louisville President James Ramsey found the time to publicly endorse his athletics director. I find that absolutely stunning. When you look at the culture Tom Jurich has created with his "win at any cost" mentality, how could any reasonable person not hold him responsible for the happenings within HIS athletics department?

I think the "Jurich culture" is at least partly to blame for this disaster. How many kids has U of L taken as transfers that few others (or no others) would touch? How was Rick Pitino not suspended for, say, one year due to his disgusting personal conduct reference the Sypher scandal? I still have no idea how Tom Jurich was able to bring back Bobby Petrino. This is a guy that couldn't have treated U of L worse prior to leaving the first time. I guess his gutless exit from Atlanta and abhorrent behavior in Fayetteville were also irrelevant to Jurich. I'm not saying Petrino didn't deserve to be considered for big time jobs (because he's a very good football coach), but U of L?

And so today, President Ramsey gives Jurich a pat on the back. Rick Pitino says he isn't going anywhere. THIS is the culture I'm talking about. At a minimum, IMO anyway, Rick Pitino should be suspended until U of L has a reason to "un-suspend' him. His claims that he knew nothing are essentially irrelevant. It's clear now that things happened under his watch. This man has already proven that he's void of integrity and character. This makes two massive scandals in a 5-6 year window. How is he still being allowed to influence young people?

Then there's Tom Jurich. I have little doubt that he knew nothing of hookers and strippers, but this is the culture HE created. HE allowed Willie Williams to transfer in. HE allowed Devonte Fields to transfer in. HE kept Rick Pitino. HE brought back Petrino. And I won't even mention the fleece job reference the Yum Center. When you "roll the dice" on these things, you're supposed to pay the price if things go wrong. Well, things have gone horribly wrong.

IMO, Tom Jurich should be fired. If the university keeps him, they're just endorsing the culture that has led to embarrassment after embarrassment for the city, state, and university.

GBB!!!

Excellent post. I would like this post 5 times if it were possible. Sadly, they'll protect Jurich and all the rest of the cronies over there.

If it were me, and I HAD sunk to the depths he has - it all depends on what UofL did. IF they blamed it all on me, and I was the fall guy; I'd talk to every media outlet who'd interview me. I'd write a tell-all book. I'd do everything it took to take down their administration. Period. I know I wouldn't willingly take the fall.
Which I why I doubt they point too hard at McGee. They'll use general ambiguous terms and phrases like "certain members of the university", without specific names. But they know if they throw him under the bus, all bets are off. It's gonna be a major strategic PR show for a while I think.

Someone obliviously funded this. Megee probably knew the risk/benefits involved. Megee also knows that if he rats, Pitino will send someone to knock his kneecaps out with a baseball bat. I called in to a local radio show yesterday (Kevin Anderson, Andy Sweeney, ESPN affiliate) to say that, essentially, the media around here have a uniquely cozy relationship with UofL and UofL Athletics, and that has fostered an environment where there's little accountability, which has led to this litany of things that's causing people to say UofL has a rogue athletics department. They did not like that, and disagreed strongly. Then Anderson went on to say, there are definitely people in the Louisville media who will cover for UofL, and Sweeney said there are definite fan boys in the local media.

I heard you yesterday. You can tell that it hits a nerve with Anderson likely due to him routinely laughing of this accusation as being absurd.

In the end, they know that the local media is cozy with UofL and there has been an absence of anyone in the print media that scrutinized them in any way. The only voice that has been overly critical is a guy they dismiss as a UK "fanboy".

Yep, it's identical to what happened to Sutton and how he reacted. Oscar Combs said as much on twitter.

When the Emory scandal broke, Sutton called Dwayne Casey back from out of town. Sutton tried to get Casey in a room alone, without his lawyer. Casey refused. The fuse was lit.

I'm not proud of myself, but I couldn't help it. I replied to a Zipp post over there.

"Zipp
Glass half full version...

This new person (ex-player) refutes hearsay testimony that anything more took place. Anyone can take their clothes off, esp. a chick looking to be a baby mama for a future NBA player. Doesn't take money for that. And I don't know that's against any rules or laws.

An ex-player also has more credibility than a current NCAA basketball player like Lyle. A current player may be under pressure to tell the NCAA what he thinks it wants. And ex-player doesn't much give a damn..."

No, Zipp, the ex-player didn't refute anything. He was speaking to a certain instance. I believe Powell said sometimes they had stripper parties. Other times were other things. Whomever leaked about Lyles talking said he corroborated the "gist" of what the book says. Anything close to the "gist" of what the book says is outrageous and I would hope you could agree with that. There is no reason to believe the ex-player would ever see money changing hands since McGee apparently texted about meeting places for that. On your second point, you have it backwards. The ex-player can say anything with impunity. He is facing no threat in either direction. It is Lyles who is under the gun to be truthful and I'm sure he was. To say he intentionally lied requires a wild conspiracy theory that you have already shot down by stating it would not be in the NCAA's best interest for the allegations in this book to be true. If that is correct, then why would they force Lyles to incriminate UL in any way, yet it appears that he did. You can't have it both ways. One thing is clear now that Lyles has talked. Every basketball recruit who visited UL during this time period will be interviewed, at least if they are still under NCAA jurisdiction. They will all know that Lyles confirmed some things. In the near future I imagine we'll hear about many more corroborating statements. What happens then, I have no idea.

What's going on with the Louisville fan base is human nature, not Louisville nature. We said the same things with Sutton and Indiana fans did the same with Knight. People on the outside see the situation and think "it's obvious, you need to make a change". People on the inside are like "but this is our coach and he didn't send the envelope/punch the player/pay the prostitutes.
it's one thing to defend these type of things but not once they become indefensible. i got banned on their 247 board for saying that maybe the only guy that did anything was mcgee but you'd have to admit that strippers were in the dorm and they were paid to have sex with players and recruits.... they are still trying to say lyle confirmed that they were strippers but no sex was involved. the whole point of lyle confirming the story was that he confirmed katina's story not the ever changing ul narrative.

Several things going on in that noisy article and video interview. First off, I just love Rick's quote that "it's mind boggling to me, how all thing can go on . . . "

Second, I also adore all the verbiage in the article attacking young men in general without staying focused on the situation at hand, the culprit, the UL athletic program. Yes, society has a problem with it's young men not respecting young women. But that door swings both ways. Young women have forgotten, completely lost the ability to be ladies, have no respect for themselves. The message sent to young men in society today each time something goes afoul is that young women can behave like sluts, act like filthy street whores all they want but the minute anything appears to have gone wrong it will be you (young man) that will be at fault and she (the young woman) will be the protected victim just as if she was still a virtuous English lady from a Dicken's novel, clutching her mum's washings and trying not to get the London mud on her shoes all along.

We can't hide the surprise any longer because it's becoming too obvious. 15 yrs ago UK planted Pitino at UofL. Think about it, who could embarrass a program as often and frequently as Rick unless it was done on purpose.

With two sex scandals, absurd slogans like L1C4, delusional statements like Mike Marra is the best 3 pt shooter ever, Chane is as good as Mashburn, Chris jones is ungaurdable, etc. To never being able to beat UK..it's become too obvious.

The goal was to get him to build the program up and unfortunately they were so terrible it took 15 yrs, thus why we had to give him the 2013 season for his hard work. Then after he has got the program as high as its ever been in its history he was to crash it down.

Notice the timing of how close to Big Blue Madness...I hate to spoil the surprise but next week at Madness when the cheerleaders spell Kentucky, Pitino is going to burst out of a cake (thanks jamo) and be the Y while Rick Astley's hit "Never gonna give you up" blasts overy Big Bertha..then we are all going to laugh together as Da Ville burns to the ground and rejoice that Big Brother will always be the king of the state and college basketball.

Has anyone put together a list of ul improprieties? I would love to have it including all the football players kicked off other teams, legal issues, law suits, scandals, etc... Surely someone knows. I can't keep up with all the second chance players. Thanks

They should, because I know for a fact Howie Lindsey carries around a list of everything bad we've ever done. I've seen him show it to someone.

Nice, but they know the true story already:

Re: My honest opinion of what might of happened

Andre is a friendly guy. He spoke to Whoricane Katina when he saw her working in the dorm as a part of the janitorial team. He had no idea what her "side job" was. She told him her daughters were big fans and that they'd like to meet the team. McGee invited them to a get together where they went into full-on maneater mode. Nobody thought these women were much different from the many, many girls who follow any high level team.

McGee gave the old one some tickets to some games. Giving members of the janitorial staff tickets to games should be viewed as a generous act by Andre. He should be nominated for Sainthood for being so nice to low level employees in the community.

This is nothing but revisionist history from a who're trying to get famous at the expense of one of the classiest people who ever stepped on a basketball court, Mr. Andre McGee. He'll be fully exonerated in the end.

I will start with a few...

Wednesday at 8:10 AM

It's my opinion that some young girls hung out with basketball players (possibly having sex with one or more), and that's pretty much the end of it. It is plausible that if McGee considered this girl a friend then perhaps he did at some point give her tickets, but not for pimping her daughters. I believe the entire prostitution thing is made up. I'm willing to own it if we did in fact pay hookers to be with recruits. I also know 100% that Pitino did not know about this, that's not even debatable. McGee would have been gone quicker than he could execute a fast break.

Is it not possible that these were simply women/girls hanging and partying with the most popular guys on the entire campus/city. One brazen enough to ask and get some of the "perks" that come with the territory of being a D1 athlete at a top university. My god, some women fund every weekend outing this exact way with average guys(much less ones with this much earning potential). Would this be the first time prior to/during/after sex that a woman or girl asked to be taken somewhere/bought something/given something? When it became obvious she was simply "milking the cow" to get paid in some form...she was kicked to the curb and **** hit the fan. It does not have to be as soon as the player rolled off..."you got my money"? It just seems much more plausible than Andre calling 502-REN-TAHO.

No one's brought up this piece of the puzzle. We know IU is involved in some way. Jurkin transferred in June 2014, ONE MONTH after Andre McGee accepted the job at UMKC:

Nice, but they know the true story already:

Lol..wow

This is a much larger conspiracy to destroy UofL in my opinion. And I don't want him to go anywhere.

BUT, if he did leave, the only way to effectively move on, keeping the tradition of successful eras alive in coaching hoops for the Cards, and give a Big F/U to those behind this grotesquerie-- would be to replace him with his son Richard.

Should send this to the editor at the CJ Eric. Pretty much sums up the culture that permeates UL since Jurich has been there. My daughter will soon be college age and she wanted to go to UL. I can't in good conscious let her go through with that. Women are obviously 2nd class citizens on that campus.

It blows my mind how they've now done a 180 on their logic regarding Pitino vs what they've said about Cal. 'Where there's smoke theres fire', 'the coach is responsible', 'how could he not have known', and other ironic statements. Hopefully, at some point, the good people who work at UL or are boosters will say 'enough is enough'.

Here is some of the things UL fans are saying AFTER Lyle and a former player basically confirmed what happened in the book:

Those inbred morons Rhodes and Zipp are hilarious. I can't wait until the hammer drops.
