Pitino (age 63?) is in a similar situation to Roy Williams (65) in that even if they keep him around to ride the crisis out, he's not going to have a lot of tread left on the tires going forward. If strategy was the only factor, it might be a good idea to bring in a new team right away for a fresh start. (I say MIGHT because coaches like Pitino and Williams are few and far between).

But there is the human element. They have had their internal meetings and are probably of the mind that Pitino didn't know about the prostitution and it was McGee freelancing. Pitino has been their ambassador for over a decade. He has won a championship. They have a building named after his brother in law. It's harder to dump someone with all those ties on the basis that "it was on his watch" alone.

They have a lot invested in Pitino.

On the other hand, Pitino has already been personally involved in one sex scandal, and he had a long history with McGee as a player and employee. His tack that McGee was one of dozens doesn't really hold up under scrutiny.

We'll see what happens. If the underage part becomes a major theme, it's going to be tough to control.

Outside The Lines Tuesday or Wednesday

Katina and the other prostitutes interviewed. Already taped it. For some reason ESPN is waiting until next week to broadcast.

Wow! I thought you were joking when you first mentioned this. So, this is really happening this week? Awesome!
Maybe OTL wanted to give Jurich, RP and UofL all opportunity to record a response?
Going to be better than the "Who Shot JR?" episode of Dallas!
More like "Who Boinked Katina?"

It will be interesting if she pulls out, no pun intended - but is funny, some of the evidence she has been holding back. Can't to see it. Oh, can someone catch me up on the Chris Jones tweet. I missed that somehow.

The only point where the book implies that higher-ups knew about the activities involves McGee setting up a date for a recruit after McGee had already left Louisville for UMKC. The author quoted McGee as saying "Rick really wants this recruit" and speculated that someone at Louisville would have to call him in Kansas City for McGee to have known that. Of course it could have been a booster before and after he left, but the book doesn't point that out.

There is the section of the book where someone at or affiliated with UofL (McGee?) asked for "clean, white girls" on behalf of someone else. That was the spark that supposedly infuriated Katina Powell but, no mention of where this directive came from. Maybe that was from someone else attached in some way to UofL? Don't know.

She was apparently taking pretty good notes all along. Maybe planning to stab them in the back the whole time. Even if you overlook the fact she was pimping out her own daughters, there's not a lot of honor in this person.

It might suggest at least one player or parent knew that women could be "ordered" by type, which could indicate that someone besides McGee knew they were being paid. Or it could mean that McGee thought he knew what someone liked. Not sure it suggests that anyone above McGee was directly involved.

I thought it was suggested in the book that someone specifically asked for "clean, white girls"? Meaning, someone wanted that particular type of girl and assumed getting them would be no problem for Katina Powell? This sudden change in the type girls being requested is important in many ways. First, it means either a "regular" wanted to try something new/different or a new person had gotten involved and had different tastes.
Is this what made Powell and McGee's relationship turn sour? Or is there more to this story?
Again, it's hard for me to believe that a Ho-Mama wouldn't have a problem pimping out her own daughters for money but, would draw the line at sourcing "clean, white girls". This woman is obviously motivated by money alone. She's said as much herself and the reason she's shopped this story to atleast two media outlets. I just think there's more here than a pimp being insulted by a request that might have breached some type of ***** etiquette.

I take it that Katina got steamed because she understood it as a request for 'clean white girls' as opposed to 'dirty black girls'.

My recollection of that from reading the book this morning is that she was annoyed because she didn't know where to procure them. That it wasn't impossible but that it was going to cost more. That it was a business where the girls weren't necessarily friendly with the competition.

I still doubt Pitino knew, but McGee was employed by the program and at the very least there's an infraction there.

She sells her body and her daughters bodies for sex, are you shocked that there is no honor in this woman? Maybe you have to be a Louisville fan to answer this.

Did Pitino directly know what was going on behind closed doors? Who knows. Did the Director of Basketball Operations for the University of Louisville Men's Basketball Coaching Staff pay prostitutes to entertain potential recruits and their fathers? Yes. As far as the NCAA is concerned that is a serious infraction, if true. That my UL friend is just the tip of the spear in what is a cesspool of information that has been alleged in the past couple of weeks.

Amazing to me that the true fans that live in the community continue to accept Pitino and Jurich and haven't gotten out the pitch forks for the disgrace they have caused the University.

Katina, her honor or lack of, her daughters, where she lives, who she is a fan of, or any of a number of things, do not matter. Her reason for exposing the practice of pay for play, does not matter.

What matters is, an employee of ul supplied prostitutes for players and recruits. It would be nice to know who supplied the money, but that doesn't matter either.

Even if the women were just strippers instead of prostitutes, that would be enough to cause severe ncaa penalties. I think everything is true though.

tomatoh--tumotto--strippers--prostitutes--they were women alleged to have been provided to basketball recruits by the University of Louisville.

Those women were dirty whores, period. And you're right - wouldn't matter either way if they were supplied by someone. It would be an infraction enter way. But try to explain this to Zipp or Kerry. Lol.

You're right. McGee was no renegade booster. He was an important part of the basketball program.

Strongly convinced Pitino keeps talking about this years Freshmen class as being his best and one of his "most interesting" ULoL teams in recent years, to make the self-imposed NCAA tourney ban as a legitimate punishment. When in reality, they just won't be anywhere near a contender this year.

Rick, did you order the ***** red?
Hahaha, this scandal would make a great movie:

NCAA: Rick Pitino, did you order the whores?
Pitino's Lawyer: You don't have to answer that question!
Pitino: I'll answer the question!
Pitino: You want answers?
NCAA: We think we're entitled to.
Pitino: You want answers?!
NCAA: We want the truth!... Uhhh... Sometimes.
Pitino: You can't handle the truth!
Pitino: We live in a world that has talent, and that talent has to be recruited. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Emmert? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for T-Elvis, and you curse the Cardinal way. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Katina Powell's daughters, while underage, probably saved my career. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, sells tickets. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that bench, you need me on that bench. We use words like L1C4, crown, linebeards. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent chasing Kentucky. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to an organization who rises and sleeps under the profits that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up the phone, and call McGee. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
NCAA: Did you order the whores?
Pitino: I did the job I...

Here's what I believe. Every university has girls that entertain the recruits on their visits. Every university HAS to because that's what the other schools are doing and it's within the rules to do so. Pitino told McGee to handle this. McGee knew Katina from looking her up online for personal "use" a time or two. So he started asking her questions about her fellow girls entertaining his recruits.

Remember the brouhaha about Siva and the internet escort that quickly got swept under the rug?
