Southern Miss did do it about 25 years ago. Some might argue that the fact that So. Miss has lost about 13 straight games against SEC opponents is more timely than their two victories with Brett Favre at the helm. Also, congrats on being ranked in 2011. Its hard to believe any team in college football could survive that schedule and finish the season with only 2 losses. That loss to 3-9 UAB must have been a heart breaker. Our poor Cats have no chance Saturday against those 1990 and 2011 Eagles.

Remember they are all on the road and not against the bottom feeders

Seems like an odd excuse for someone that came to a UK board asking when was the last time UK won at Alabama. The mighty Eagles surely go on the road and crush all foes, irrespective of their place in the conference. You set the bar based on long ago accomplishments...and then fell miserably short.

What was the premise? Seems to me that someone said legitimate SEC teams don't lose to So. Miss. You responded about the 1990 and 2011 seasons, but So. Miss has lost 13 in a row to SEC teams. You claim they weren't bottom feeders, providing further evidence that legitimate SEC teams do not lose to So. Miss. So I guess you are right, I missed that you were actually agreeing with the original premise. My apologies.

UK has not been a legitimate SEC caliber team. Not sure anyone here would argue that. Again, though, not sure how that is any way relevant to your original post?

just curious. Have you ever beaten Alabama or auburn on the road? Much less the same yr?? When was your program last in the top 20 also?
We'd never play both in the same year. Mississippi State is our permanent west and then we play one other West team a year that rotates.

What SHOULD happen is Kentucky using a much larger offensive line to grind this out and use the tight ends in isolation against smaller linebackers and dbs. The strength of this Kentucky team would appear to be the secondary....which HOPEFULLY will negate a really, really good quarterback who has lost his top two receivers.

If this team doesn't flake out the way they did against ULL and Eastern, should be a decent win. IF they do......Could be a reaaaaaaaaalllly bad night.

If we don't beat Southern Miss, then we might as well forget bowling.

I know alot of people will say if you can't beat USM then we have bigger problems to worry about and I get that. However USM is a quality football team that will probably go bowling again this year. What really bothers me about this game is they will come in here with nothing at all to lose. They should be loose and ready to go. They are expected to lose and if they win great and if they lose, well they where supposed to. We on the other hand know this is a important game that we can't afford any mistakes. Add the Shannon Dawson effect and the fact that he also has nothing to lose and all his comments about being just another game is total BS. Thoughts ?
USM is a solid team, but lets put things in perspective. Last year they beat the following teams (cbs final rankings)

Austin Peay (1AA school)
Texas State (119)
North Texas (127)
UTSA (115)
Charlotte (125)
UTEP (103)
Rice (102)
Old Dominion (97)
LA Tech (53)

They had one decent win, one. They play in the 9th out of 10 D1-A conferences. For heavens sake, if they have a pulse, they should be in a bowl. Last year we had a terrible OC, an HC and OC that I think disliked each other and a quarterback controversy that I think really harmed the team. This year is very different.

Not the same year but yes we have. Last time was Auburn in 2009. We didn't beat Alabama that year on the road but we did beat Georgia on the road that year as well.

Try southern miss. Would you like to wager say 1 million or is 2 better
Contrary to what you think UK doesn't actually play Bama that often. Despite being in the same league we don't face them but like twice every 10 to 15 years or so. So the premise you raising is pretty stupid. We have beaten 2 top 10 teams in the same year, one of them the #1 ranked team. How many times have you done that?

Oh if you only knew. Sorry I had the nerve to point out someone was WRONG
You didn't hit a nerve with me. It doesn't matter what yours or our past was. We play tomorrow with current players led by current coaches. Thankfully you have Dawson and we dont.

I get what you are saying but would like to characterize it somewhat differently.

USM has a proud football history. They have experienced some coaching problems lately but that doesn't change the fact it is a program with a solid football tradition. They have a long history of playing SEC teams (often very competitively) and will have no particular "fear" about playing in CWS. That means they will come into the game with a certain amount of confidence which is a little bit different (and maybe more dangerous) than the typical underdog mindset of "nothing to lose".

Without question it is a very important game to UK and that can create either positive or negative pressure on the Cats. JMO.
