Big debate on social media right now. Some people see this dress as white and gold, some people see it as black and blue. Wtf is going on here?

It's definitely black and blue to me. Seems like abou 75% of people think gold and white and 25% think black and blue. Wild.

Blue and black.

I'm confused.

Am I being Punk'd by every black person on Twitter?

For those seeing blue and black - what colors do you see on the dresses to the left that you can only see a bit of?

"Your eyes have retinas, the things that let you interpret color. There’s rods, round things, and cones that stick out, which is what gives your eye a textured appearance in the colored part. The “cones†see color. The “rods†see shade, like black, white and grey. Cones only work when enough light passes through. So while I see the fabric as white, someone else may see it as blue because my cones aren’t responding to the dim lighting. My rods see it as a shade (white). There’s three cones, small, medium and large. They are blue sensitive, green sensitive, and red sensitive.
As for the black bit (which I see as gold), it’s called additive mixing. Blue, green and red are the main colors for additive mixing. This is where it gets really tricky. Subtractive mixing, such as with paint, means the more colors you add the murkier it gets until it’s black. ADDITIVE mixing, when you add the three colors eyes see best, red, green and blue, (not to be confused with primary colors red, blue and yellow) it makes pure white.
—Blue and Black: In conclusion, your retina’s cones are more high functioning, and this results in your eyes doing subtractive mixing.
—White and Gold: our eyes don’t work well in dim light so our retinas rods see white, and this makes them less light sensitive, causing additive mixing, (that of green and red), to make gold.
**** UPDATE to prove this theory I turned my phone brightness from the lowest to highest and saw it switching from white and gold (at the lowest) to light blue and darker gold (at the highest) meaning people that see blue and black are more sensitive to light (better eyesight and not looking at the sun like your moms told you)
**Also if you see white and gold sometimes, blue and black another, or a combination of the two, your eyes are very average, and it could change because of YOUR rooms lighting or the tilt of your phone. This is the same manipulation they use for optical illusions"

I don't know if I can accept the opinion of someone that only sees pictures in black and white.

75% of people see white and gold per massive poll on buzzfeed. If you're seeing blue and black you're basically retarded, fyi.

Apparently the dress is blue and black, but its an obscenely overexposed photo. The photo is (bluish) white and gold.

The question needs clarification.

Are you asking:
(1) What are the colors in the pic?
The color of a sample area (pixel) of this image is NOT SUBJECTIVE. It is measurable and can be precisely identified. Use the MS paint color picker to see the exact RGB values if you want.
or
(2) What are the colors after subjectively processing the poor lighting distortions?
The colors of an object shot under uneven lighting can be greatly affected by shadowing and reflections, etc. The actual colors can be impossible to identify. Well, unless you're an expert or something. My answer to this question is the dress looks white and gold, especially given the reference black to the lower left. But I could be very wrong.

I was bored, so here is the image with reference color labels some have guessed using HTML color codes.

You white and gold fools need to get yo rods and cones updated.

Played this game with my wife who saw only white and gold. I zoomed in about 1600% on a 'blue' part and she said she saw blue. Zoomed out a little. Blue. Out some more, blue. All the way out, white? WTF?

I can see that the 'black' stripes aren't truly black in the photo, but they sure as touch aren't gold throughout. Again, zooming in and out proved this.

It "appears" white and gold. Technically, it doesn't have a color. The material just absorbs all colors except white and gold.......then reflects it back to you for interpretation.......just sayin....

White and gold. I can see a blueish tint on the bottom half, but white and gold stands out.

You have simpleton flawed eyeballs if you see white & gold. Just go ahead and do the rest of society a favor and gouge them out.

Dress was Gold/White for me yesterday and Black/Blue today. I have also taken the test Joey Rupption linked and scored 100% on it so I obviously have world class ability to see colors.

Try it.
I'm in the middle of this, and I feel like I'm about to go blind. Honestly had to step away for a second. That has to have something to do with this. I must be super sensitive to light/color.
