Imagine what KF legacy would be without making Brian the O coordinator? Those years destroyed recruiting on that side of the ball. We had some special players on D during that time, those teams got robbed.

How does Kirk finish? I thought this year would be his last after securing the win record. I think he wants more and I don’t see any available replacements on the market. KF and Iowa FB continues.

You aren't wrong. Even an average offense and would have made a few of those teams elite. KF knows it. He isn't dumb. But yeah water under the bridge.

Kirk seems to have completely handed the keys to the offense over to Lester, so I’m perfectly content with Ferentz leading the way for the foreseeable future.

I hear that TBOW may be looking for an offensive coordinator role in the near future. The “quarterback whisperer“
Congrats on snapping the four year streak, finally off the snide

Totally agree with OP. Kirk’s legacy could have been that much stronger had he realized his mistake early on, dumped his son and hired a real OC to complement the defenses he had from Phil Parker.

Yeah imagine Kirk's legacy minus his winningest stretch at Iowa.

Smh.

No, recruiting was not destroyed.

Imagine sports without so many terrible fans

We were spending our money of defense back then, and if you don't think we were spending money before the NIL official era, you're oblivious.

Kirks winningest stretch is also coupled with his worst record against ranked teams. This period coincides with the BG10 west being garbage and soft OOC.

Ease up Francis.
I double checked and only saw W's and L's in the record book

You are literally the only person I have ever heard that doesn't factor quality of opponents in judging weight of wins. That might make you a savant or it might make you an imbecile.
If wins are the ONLY thing that matters, why doesn't Iowa leave the B1G and only play NAIA teams? Should yield 12-0 every season.

I can promise you every person in that Iowa football building would trade this season for the '23 season

Well the problem was that the greatest stretch of Iowa defenses just happened to coincide with the worst stretch of Iowa offenses. They beat average and below average teams with a dominant defense that not only prevented the opponent from scoring, but scored their own and created a lot of short fields and field goals. The offense was considered a necessary evil whose only goal was to not turn it over. Scoring was an occasional bonus. That's not a recipe for success against great teams who have very good offenses to go along with their own very good defenses.

In 2023 they got azz raped in 3 games including their last 2, failing to score a single point with their historically bad offense. They were eviscerated in the press all season long over the offense/Brian situation. I'm sure they all really enjoyed that.

This year they crushed all of their Big10 rivals, won a thrilling bowl game against a top 15 opponent to end a streak of top 25 losses, and played every team on their schedule, including 2 CFP teams right down to the wire.

In short. You don't know anything.
