same way, but from Missouri. There are plenty of small towns there that have high schools with ~150 students. My wife is the same way, but from Missouri. There are plenty of small towns there that have high schools with ~150 students.
The majority of our towns do not have schools named after them any more, just counties. People associate where you live with the high school sports team.
When I was in 7th grade(1980) it was required that you take Kentucky History. We had to memorize all 120 counties and place them on a map.

I had to learn all 120 like you. You are the only person besides myself I have ever heard say this. Guess what, it has come in handy as I work in the investment business and we underwrite muni bonds for the whole state. My wife is the same way, but from Missouri. I dont know how it is in Lexington or Louisville, but in metro NKY/Cincy, after introducing someone, the next question is "what high school did you go to?"
Why and where in Owen?born in Mason
Then: Bracken, Kenton, Owen, Madison, Fayette, Bourbon, Fayette (again), Boone, Kenton (again)
Kentuckians identify themselves by county (unless you are from a metro area like Louisville, Lexington, NKY) as there are so many small towns across the state, no one can know where they all are. Counties consolidate that a little bit.

Yes, didn’t go to him though.Probably familiar with my uncle who was a Dentist in Owen? He retired this year after some medical issues. Initials are FC.
I’m with you buddy. We definitely have a better way of thinking here in Bullitt!Jefferson 0-13
Bullitt 13-36
Jefferson 36-Currently
Really miss Bullitt County thought.
Having lived here in Lexington my entire life, one thing I've learned is the only Kentuckians who don't respond to "So where you from" with "I'm from _____ County" are those of us from Lexington and Louisville.
We do it because if we told you the little town we lived in you probably wouldn't know where it's at anyway. I mean would you seriously know where Evarts, Kings Mountain, Marrowbone, Albany, Science Hill or Pine Knot is at if anyone told you that's where they lived?Jesus Christ, I was literally about to say the exact same thing. I have never once told anyone I was from Fayette County (life resident as well)
I did live outside of New Circle Road for 12 years, but now live next to the Arboretum
Whenever I see that name, I automatically associate it with Buford Pusser. I am assuming you are in the McNairy County located in Tennessee? Heck, that might be the only McNairy County in the country.McNairy
Yep, Buford Pusser territory.Whenever I see that name, I automatically associate it with Buford Pusser. I am assuming you are in the McNairy County located in Tennessee? Heck, that might be the only McNairy County in the country.
BTW, I am in Owsley County. That means there are only 4.441 other people besides me living here! The entire population of my county wouldn't qualify as a small town in most places, but I like it here, largely because it has such a small population.
No, but to be fair we don't know where most of yalls counties are in relation to things either lolWe do it because if we told you the little town we lived in you probably wouldn't know where it's at anyway. Then maybe you should get out and check out some of the beautiful parts of the state. No, but to be fair we don't know where most of yalls counties are in relation to things either lol
I always do my man. Then maybe you should get out and check out some of the beautiful parts of the state.
I usually just say I live on Lake Cumberland. Everyone usually knows where that is.I always do my man.
Now you're talking in terms us city slickers understand.I usually just say I live on Lake Cumberland. Everyone usually knows where that is.![]()
