Not defined by any particular standard but as you answer include your age . That lets us know how many decades you have actually witnessed . I'm not sure several decades seem great to me but had their issues . I'll say this I'm no fan on the 2010 decade to today . Society is just so damn ugly . I'll say 80's , economy Was firm , no big wars , people had fun and seemed to respect others more than now .

I've always been partial to the 1350s.
Wow, I was going to say 1340's. The plague reached western Europe. The largest cities in what would become the USA started to crumble which includes Cahokia and Kincaid. Both in southern Illinois with Cahokia being the largest city north of Mexico.

And I can be accused of a cranky old " get off my lawn " man at age 55 but this current culture sucks .. Brawls at Disney land , Brawls everywhere , school shootings , political candidates being attacked , politicians openly urging their supporters to disrupt their opponents . just an overall level of nastiness that has permeated our culture .

*Insert whatever decade I spent my formidable years in*
False for me. 90's kid but I'd say 70's purely based on film and music. Character actors galore. You could be out of shape, hairy, or have a baked potato as a face like Bronson and still have a successful career. Directors took chances and weren't immediately fired if their big studio projects went overbudget. Music wise, that kind of speaks for itself without listing the usuals.

I was born in '77, right as Star Wars began a three-month reign at the top of the U.S. box office.

So to me it's a toss-up between the 1980s and 1990s. And that's not just nostalgia on display: the world was still pretty screwed up but overall it was objectively slightly less awful than it is now.

Has to be the 80’s because my girls ask about it all the time and even wear 80’s rock T shirts in 2022 so I’m at a loss on that but my wife said all the girls are wearing them nowadays as some kind of fashion thing 🍺

Ah, not much different than what it’s been like the last 20 years where kids rock a band shirt that they have no idea about. Saw it in high school with people rocking The Smiths shirt and having no idea who it was.

Probably the 90s. And the 90s were also, seemingly, the peak of the US and likely civilization. **** was good in the 90s.

For whatever the 80s did, it was negated by ****** ****ing music. My god, that decade was an atrocity for music.
Van Halen ,Queen. , AC/DC Prince , Michael. Jackson , and many others .. it wasnt that bad at. all. Yes there was some serious ****** pop tunes but there was also Alan Jackson , Garth ( meh) G. Strait. , Hank .. it wasnt that bad .

It’s funny…our son is 19, but we claim he’s reincarnated because he loves everything 80s.

He’ll wear 70/80s band shirts and people will ask him stuff, trying to trick him, but he actually knows 95% of the time lol

Meh. Just dont think it compares to the 60s and 70s. Music was in a serious slide, but that's just my opinion. That decade was too "synth-y" for me.

2010s. Economy went from ok to gangbusters. The last decade before technology became so intrusive that it creates misery and no one can have fun without worrying what it will look like if broadcast to the world. Chicks were hot and frisky. The music was blah but not terrible.

All in all, probably the last decade where it will be a joy to live until we do something about social media, etc.

What? 80s included good music. Perhaps not 70s caliber, but nevertheless..

AC/DC, Def Leppard, Guns n Roses, Journey, Foreigner, U2, Bon Jovi, INXS, Duran Duran, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Police, Joan Jett, Rolling Stones, Clash, Quiet Riot, Judas Priest, Slade, Motley Crue, Billy Idol.

List goes on and on.

Crank up my fave from the decade and let me know what you think. I'm talking hard core jams while blasting down the highway.

I know a lot of people here are a little older.. but let me sell you on why the music from the 90's was solid:

.. it wasn't the 80s.

90s was THE best decade for Rap. Invented Grunge. Saw the birth of post-hardcore, math rock, techno genres. Lots of great alt-rock. And most of it sounds like it could be from today (something I think 80's music and before lacks).

.. but It lacked classic rock, and it gave us Boy Bands

You're just holding one type of music against all of it. Has there ever been a decade where so many types of music blew up like they did in the 80's? Some were around in previous decades but got really popular in the 80's.

You had pop (your synthesizer music), rap, alternative (grunge, punk), rock (pop rock, heavy metal, hard rock, hair bands), and for better or worse I believe pop country got its start in the late 80's.

It was also a great decade for movies. Fashion was a bit out there but most every decade was like that. There were no major wars. People seemed to get along much better. It was that sweet spot after the Civil Rights Movement and before the decline with the birth of social media. Of course you couldn't have social media without the internet. It was also born in the 80's.

As you can tell, I am a big fan of the 80's. I was born in 73 so it was the first full decade I got to experience. I'd gladly sacrifice all the technology of today to go back to the 80's when things were simpler.

80s, had the most sex in my life + drank the most beer.

But honestly, just turned 60 a few years ago, and the 2020s have been good so far, grandchild, enough money not to worry, UK has had really good football teams, and another good thing about being a little older is that you find you DGAF about a whole lot of things, which can lift your spirits.

Gonna stop you right at "rap blowing up in the 80s". Rap might have gotten it's footing in the 80's, but it was pure **** back then, and I think any rap fan would agree, 90s rap was SO much better, that really.. you could consider the 90s as the REAL starting point for Rap music. 80's seems to be the most diverse genre up until that point, I'll give it that.. but it doesn't mean ALL the genres were good.

I just think the 80s were about having a good time. No one was offended. It’s the only decade a movie like Roadhouse could be made and be entertaining. ALF, Fraggle Rock, GI Joe, Thundercats, Masters of the Universe, Transformers Real Ghostbusters, C.O.P.S. There wasn’t a better time to be a kid in terms of content.

Everyone seemed to know karate as well. The bikinis women wore were awesome (loved that high waist stuff), sports were so much fun. People got along and now everything that seems to exist is a remake, reboot or sequel to something that was in the 80s.

For me personally:

1) this decade
2) 2000-2010
3) 2010-2020
4)1980-1990

1,000) 1990-2000

Overall 3.2 phenomenal decades for me so far.
