One of my favorite all time movie quotes came from Mel Brooks - history of the world........."It's good to be the king."

1 - That Maine South and GBW are likely to not lose a conference game before the Cubs win a World Series game.

2 - That the courage shown by the quarterback from St. Laurence this past weekend is a lesson for everyone - fan or player.

3 - That the MSL West is officially a mess.

4 - That Rockford Lutheran now has a state record setter.

5 - That the playoffs will be very odd this year without the likes of Providence, Rita, and potentially Lake Zurich.

6 - That the first true test for HF likely won't come until the playoffs. Will they be ready for it?

7 - That the Lincoln Way North story keeps getting better.

8 - That very quietly Geneva is having another fantastic season - unbeaten thus far.

9 - That JCA and NAZ for that matter both learned again that it takes 48 minutes regardless of the score.

10 - That some real good 8a school will have to make that trip to Edwardsvilleband it likely won't end well.

Two weeks to go!

That this is the only the 2nd time in 25 years that Provy will not have made the playoffs. That's an impressive ride.

That there's still hope for a 3 way CCLBlue tie if MC can upset LA and Rice can beat Provy and Rita.

That Laurence and BMac are just plain good - no overlooking them

That Ignatius has a shot to make the playoffs and keep them on the map

So now LWE was not a test for HF??? Everyone said leading up to this week that it would be their "1st test" due to the subpar performances by Stevenson. However, the tune has now changed.......no test, just another meaningless game.

I think it was a test and they past it! Great win for HF. Listen whenever you beat a East team you've been tested. Maybe East shot themselves a bit but I give credit to the HF defense. East will learn from this loss and will be a tough out in the playoffs. I believe this is only the 2nd time HF has ever beaten LWE, so yes they past the test. HF will have more tests to come in the playoffs.
Go East

Yes, just the 2nd win against LWE. East did have the poor snap that lead to a scope and score. However, keep in mind HF had 3 drives in the red zone and came away with no points. It could have been worse.

Hey there is NO guarantee that HF will win!! I am not GDomer93 and say we will when every game with ease. I think we have the most talented team but talent and game planning and execution are not necessarily the same week to week. It simply one week at a time.

I just wish the HF banter was not so biased and negative due to Domer and past sellouts and all of the other things that I have learn since being on this site. I appreciate the knowledge and history about HF that I have learned but usually choose to not participate and just read. Every thing turns into emotional subjective information vs. objective analysis about what one thinks was good and or bad about HFs play, players, and how the match up against team.

Again, GD93 is a tool and he makes me cringe from time to time. But he has made most here care less about much about HF other than them losing and them shutting GD93 up. I totally get it.....just wish it was more objective opinions and voices vs. the subjective material that is usually given.

I know that 4A doesn't get talked about a whole bunch, but I think Manteno winning at Coal City is a big "Over the Hump" moment for them... Along with "upsetting" Plano @ Plano for the first time in a long long time... They show that they are for real.

MSL West isn't really such a mess. Palatine, Barrington and Conant all 2-1 in conference. Barrington beat Conant and Palatine beat Barrington, so nominally Palatine is ahead "for the R". Barrington and Fremd play this weekend, so either both have 2 losses come next Saturday or Fremd's totally out of it. Which means that truly Palatine and Conant control their destinies with a week 9 showdown in Palatine. (BTW..which a certain PHS fan noted would be the case in a couple of threads prior to the start of the season.. Ahem..). If Palatine wins, they're conference champs..bottom line. If Conant wins it'd be them or Barrington depending on what BHS does the next two weeks. Palatine and Conant both have trap games in week 8..Palatine gets a very scrappy Schaumburg team, while Conant gets crosstown rival and Fremd toppler Hoffman Estates. If both get thru unscarred, then it's on in Palatine in twelve days

The crazier one is the MSL East..Hersey in the lead right now, but get this... Hersey, 4-3(3-0) plays Wheeling 2-5(2-1) next week. If Wheeling wins that game and week 9's, they could get the "R" at 4-5(4-1)..now that's a hot mess!

Relax. Take your win and worry about your next opponent. Undoubtedly, just another small bump on the way to your undefeated, untouched championship season. No doubt greatest team we've ever seen.

EXACTLY,
That's the thoughtful, insightful, measured, and intelligent (hardly) banter that some provide here. Thanks Bobby for the knowledge!

What I learned this past weekend is this: GW is ready to make a deep run in whatever class they find themselves in this November. They aren't leveling off, or struggling with this issue or that. They are improving on both sides of the ball, each week. If everyone stays healthy, and they can get into 8A, WE'RE GONNA SEE SOME REAL FOOTBALL.

So if they are 7A, everything will be fake? Like the moon landings?

Wow, didn't know the word "REAL" would spark a controversy. If GW gets into 8A, then the chances of seeing the top 3 teams in the state play each other increase. So let me change "REAL" to "really exciting".

Really exciting nails it. The final 4 in 8A with GW in the mix would be a barn burner. Who is team #4? NC? BR?

it could be either of those teams, with Edwardsville lurking around, too. The picture gets a little clearer after this next weekend. My fingers are crossed for GW in 8A.
