Hard to believe just two weeks remain before the playoffs begin.

When we get there this is shaping up to be one of the wildest playoffs ever.

1 - That Hinsdale Central is really good and a major 8A favorite
2 - That Carmel has risen from the dead and can be someone's playoff nightmare if they get in.
3 - That it was about as crazy a weekend in the NIC10 as ever with Boylan and Harlem both falling.
4 - That the Maine South streak was going to end some time but boy what a streak it was.
5 - That something has happened to the Hitters defense
6 - That the "it ain't over till it's over" award this week goes to Peoria. That's a team to fear in 6A.
7 - That LZ-Stevenson were tied 7-7 at half and neither team punted. How's that possible?
8 - That Marist will win the ESCC and make a long run in 8A.
9 - That very quietly, Brian Glashagel has done a masterful job getting the 'Och to 7-0
10 - That Hoffman Estates will make the playoffs this year and be a nightmare for some higher seeded team - just ask Barrington.

My thoughts - welcome yours

Isn't Peoria most likely a 5A team? Not sure if it will play out this way, but a Peoria/Sterling 5A championship game would be fun!

They are the 6 best kids I have in every statistical category on offense. So yes they are studs

I have 25 kids on my team. 7 are 7th graders. Of the other 18, 6 will go to Carmel two to Waukegan one to Grayslake and the rest to Warren.

So yes they are studs that ALL live in Gurnee.

You know you could easily research this to on the TCYFL web site.

So essentially I'm coaching Carmel kidsLCN,

From this morning tell me this isn't. You're so pissed that your losing those kids to Carmel you can't see straight."

Ok prove it. Since you know me so well and know so very much show examples of anti-private bias.

Facts only please not thoughts.

#12 - that the DVC is 6-1 in non conference play - but only 2 of those games can "count" towards conference strength arguments as it must be against "quality opponents" - NC vs St Eds and WV vs HSE (tell me that one counts against 7th ranked State of Indiana team and a school of 3000 kids). Because the rest of the non con games were against 3-3 and below teams (except 6-1 dekalb getting beat by a 2-5 Lake park team- but that one doesn't count because Dekalb hasn't played anyone and it was only by 7 points). Will Metea at 2-5 if they beat a 5-2 LWC Will that count should Metea prevail?

I bet he loves the kids, hates the situation.
He is honorable nonetheless and deserves your respect.

Never said he hated the kids and didn't have what he felt was their best interest at heart. But the fact is simple that he hates the private schools and their appeal to some students.

If he hated them he wouldn't be.

WIU,

He brought the comment on himself from a post in another thread. No problem with his coaching or his opinion. Just needs to accept he is what he is and move on in his chosen path.

Really.. Newt does not deserve this attack. Coaching or prose.

Yes he is, figures it's his best way to spew private hate.

You know nothing about me nothing about who I am how I coach or anything of that nature.

You haven't earned the right to call me out about why I coach.

Come off your perch in PA and come on my sideline sometime. You might learn something.

And yes I'll coach whoever walks onto my field because I live to coach. I wish the kids would go to the school in my community but I'll coach them anyway.

Again learn about me before you challenge who I am and what I do.

Newt,

As a journalist remember your audience. You're on a public & free internet board that we are fortunate enough to have sponsored by edgy. You have an opinion that some are going to disagree with. Others and I don't need to earn some right in your eyes to be critical off that opinion or to state our own of you. I'm sorry but over the years you have proven on a number of occasions that what I said is factual and did it as recently as this morning. You feel you can call anyone out any time, you're on notice that the same can be done to you.

First of all I write once a month for a daily and have cut back to even less than that.

You again make statements that I hate private schools because you try and read between the lines of what I say and interpret it to mean something it doesn't.

Being that you are the only one here who has made that accusation it puts things in a. Set proper context.

If people don't like me that's cool - it's a choice. If people don't like what I post then that's also cool. But if people think that what I am posting means something other than what is written, that's on them and in this case on you.

My opinion is my own. I can't at state it any clearer - I do not hate the private schools never have. I have posted many times if you wanna get back at any school public private or otherwise beat them. That's the ultimate revenge - I use that a lot when I coach.

But to say I hate the private schools when I have never said so nor have I said I have disdain for them is inaccurate to say the least and an inappropriate statement.

You're going to have to search long and hard to where I actually say that. BecUse you are otherwise reading into statements I have posted for some meaning that simply isn't there.

Feel free to make any comments you want on what I post. But don't call me out as a private school hater when there is nothing I've ever posted stating that.

11) That LCN does have a Bias against Privates and he showed his hand.

jwar:

I have to say this contention your are peddling is groundless.

Having read Newt for well over a decade on this site and in his printed work in the newspaper, I have yet to see a single, palpable example of bias in his reporting. In the past, I have read his summaries of Carmel games and he has acquitted himself as a keen, unbiased observer of football and written glowingly of Carmel and LA as well as both Carmel and LA's public counterparts.

Only once have I ever seen a post Newt uploaded which I found to be truly offensive. Once alerted, I asked him with the utmost diplomacy to remove it. He did. I have no evidence to indicate Newt did as much out of delicacy to me or a recognition he erred in judgement; however, the fact he removed it demonstrated both class and decency on his part. In doing as much, Newt signaled a rare level of honesty, which is more than others, myself included, can say about their posting habits.

As far as his coaching, he should be applauded for his devotion to his son and dedication to the athletic development of the boys in the youth program to which he is attached.

It is one matter to make observations regarding the skill level among his sample of youth football athletes, but the allegation his posts lament a segment of these players choosing Carmel High School is utterly preposterous. Similarly, I find it very difficult to absorb the charge he fumes over the supposed loss of athletes to CoM in the respect you hint darkly he uses his position as a youth football coach to influence young boys on a decision which rests entirely with parents.

Your post tacitly stating there is some unreasoned hatred for private schools in Newt's posts surpasses an unsubstantiated charge and reaches the realm of a crude smear.

Newt,

If you're being genuine and didn't mean what I read it to say, then okay I apologize to you but if it does come out in the future I'll give you a not so friendly reminder. At this point I'll say it again I am sorry.

Witt,

I just read this now and was composing an apology to him. I have to believe he is being sincere but will continue to watch.

Godfather,

If I read to much in between the lines in his post I was wrong. You've heard me apologize when I'm wrong in the past in person. That said the other guy I've been engaged with today is a real stitch.

I'll take any bet out there that we will not hear a sincere apology from any candidate tonight aside from perhaps Bernie saying he's sorry he didn't bring up the emails when he was running!

Wow a Jwar apology. Next thing ya know a candidate will…oh wait. JWAR make PA red again.

I learned that ignatius can still win with all of their injuries. They could be a big nightmare in the playoffs if they can win out.

#13 LW West needs to regroup and find a plan before the playoffs.
Agreed! When you replace an entire offense, especially one that was a prolific scorer, you look for someone to step up and lead them. This team is still looking for that player or two to do so.
Finding your own identity when you've been a scout team for defense for 2 years is a challenge. Coaches must foster an environment for confidence to grow, and players have to "man up". There's still plenty of football left in this group.
West defense is solid as a rock. This is all about team offense becoming a team on their own!
