The more we seem to know the less we really know.....

1 - That the only thing certain about the ESCC is the uncertainty
2 - That the wrong kind of history was made at Reeters Friday night.
3 - That East Sides season came to an unfortunate end this past week.
4 - That defense was clearly optional this week in Hinsdale and at Naz-Marist
5 - That sometimes hiring a name coach isn't a very good hire - see North Chicago 2x
6 - That HF has seen its tests and passed them without issue.
7 - That the playoffs will have a decidedly different feel without WWS, Reeters, LZ, Boylan and Carmel
8 - That one long conference winning streak is no more - Oswego
9 - That choosing to go for two, at home, with the season on the line, with both your starting running backs on the bench with injuries is not a good idea.
10 - That Lincoln-Way North continues its middle finger salute to the school board during this football season.

What a wild week 9 it should be.

For those of us down state, can you explain the issue referred to in item # 10 of Newt's post regarding LWN? They are definitely playing good ball and look like a definite problem for other teams, especially if they end up in 6A. Thanks.

BWM, like I said before its not over yet. Hinsdale is going through it, other districts will as well, and it may not be over in the LW district either. They still have a deficit in the budget.

From what I have read, I do not see the comparisons between Hinsdale 86 and Lincoln-Way 210 as similar. LW built two schools a decade ago when only one was needed, thinking there would be new housing growth that did not materialize.

Hinsdale is discussing the best way to fund new upgrades. Focus on single site upgrades used by all district students switching to one school across two campuses or fund similar facilities at two campuses. Sometimes the lower costing alternative is throw out to generate push back and then justify a more expensive future referendum.

Eight years ago LWN was built, seven years ago LWW was built, unfortunately in the middle of the economic downturn.
Now one of the schools, LWW is only 50% full and through poor economic money management by the BOE, such as a three year long $500,000 water leak, the district is in financial trouble.
100 Million annual budget and the BOE Audit committee has not met with the auditors in over 20 years per the auditing company.

Lake Forest - Lake Zurich last Friday night. LZ scored with about a minute to go and decided to go for two.
I have the complete opposite point of view as you. You highlighted to me the exact reason they should have gone for 2. A run heavy team has all the momentum after a late TD. The defense is on their heels and you're 3 yards away from winning right now. If you go to OT the other team has the opportunity to regroup and they actually have the advantage because they have their whole playbook, you now have to go to your 3rd string RB or a passing game that isn't your strong suit. Really a no brainer for me, every coach has a 2 pt play in their back pocket for that exact situation, sometimes the other team stops you, that's life. Just because it didn't work doesn't mean it's the wrong decision.

You play for the tie at home and go for the win on the road. Love coach Proffitt, disagree with the call. Kick the extra point and win it in overtime
That's with all things equal, all things are NOT equal with your too 2 RB's out, one being your star and your overwhelming focal point on offense. Complete right call, you'd probably have something good in your "what did we learn" if they converted.

It was a very tough call. Leaning towards agreeing with LakeCtyNewt as don't think it is smart at home to hinge your entire playoff hopes on 1 play. LZ defense was playing very well I would have trusted them to stop LF the rest of regulation and take chances in OT where anything can happen.

That being said if I would have gone for it don't think pitching the ball back 3/4 yards and making the backup RB try to gain 5/6 yards instead of handing the ball off to someone to try to get the 2 1/2 yards was the smartest play call.

Newt is right on, going for 2 was a huge mistake. 95% chance of hitting the extra point. Less than 50% making the end zone on a play where you pitch ball back 5 yards. Kick the extra point and play good defense in OT and hope for the best. Also, the LZ kicking game was better. LF has a blocked extra point earlier in the game--they were shaky. The LZ kicker was more proficient. Just based on the kickers alone I would have gone to OT.

One more important fact that I forgot to mention. On the last LZ touchdown drive when LZ scored to make it 21-20, LZ was moving down the field with passes, not running. In fact, the touchdown play was a 20 plus yard pass. During that drive, there was no "momentum" with the running game with the two starting backs on the sideline. That made it even more puzzling to go for 2 with a running play-- a play that starts with pitching the ball backwards 4-5 yards.

I was on vacation during week 7 and 8, and Carmel lost both, so it was my fault.
