wow what a week! Soucie needs detox

1 - that Loyola IS the No. 1 team in Illinois
2 - That Maine South just won't ever lose a CSL game.
3 - That through it all Palatine reigns supreme in the wild MSL wet
4 - that a lot of familiar faces are watching the playoffs
5 - That everyone feels like THEIR TEAM got screwed by the IHSA while your team has a cakewalk
6 - That this game took a young man from us - very sad
7 - That GE Preps and DOS have a cage match scheduled in two weeks
8 - That few coaches have had the tough type of season that Bruce Baszali has had at Rockford Lutheran
9 - That Edgy wins the "hey a reporter cleans up well on TV" award
10 - That HFs loss could be the best thing to happen to them.

Was fun thanks!

And if you're one of the final 32 in 7a/8a you're probably scrambling to find out all you can about an opponent you're never watched or thought about before. ( and me personally I second #3 ) :)

Great point! I'm not sure I've ever even been to Plainfield and for sure know nothing about them. Glad we are at MS.

That three key CCL White vs. CCL Green games played a key role in limiting the Green to one playoff qualifier (Montini), while the White qualified 3 teams (STL, BMac and St. Ignatius).

Week 6: STL over STF
Week 7: St. Ignatius over Fenwick
Week 9: BMac over De La Salle

Yup-- down down year in the Green. STF a year away, DLS trying to figure it out and FW brutalized by injuries to a thin roster.

DLS goes from 0-4 in the conference to 3-1 and returns 16 starters in 2016, their lower levels have beaten everyone other than Montini for two years...I would say they are on the right path.

Duddleston is a monumental loss for them next year. They always bring in talent, that talent doesn't always finish there.

If LZ had played all year like they did against Warren in the first half (up 27-0) they would be 6-3 going to the playoffs.

'If worms had machine guns, birds would be scared of them.' - Jim Harbaugh

(Just heard that one today. Couldn't resist.):)

If Harbaugh talks like that now, what will he say when he's old? Maybe something truly senile like, "Remember that one time when we beat Michigan State?"

Too soon?

Yah your conference champion lost to a third place team in the NSC. I think not.
The Mid-Suburban West Conference Champ Palatine also lost the the last place team in the conference ,Fremd, by a score of 19 to 49. Fremd is probably the best last place team in the state of Illinois and the Mid-Suburban West is the strongest conference from top to bottom.

A fremd team that barely beat LZ week one who finished 5th in the NSC. Didn't fremd also lose to Hoffman too? Stop. The ESCC is the best and the CCL blue and WSC silver are right there. The MSL west is not a great conference. If that division is so good lets see how palatine fremd conant barrington and Schaumburg do this weekend. I say 2 wins at most.

Look I respect the MSL West. I have many friends that are head coaches there - damn near all of them. But I am also a realist. This conference has been admittedly down the last few season. While it was cool to see going into week 9 that potentially all 6 teams could make it, that doesn't necessarily equate to the best league in the state. The playoffs will shake out who is and isn't great.

Some MSL teams got very good draws - Schaumburg, Barrington, Meadows. Some got very tough draws in Fremd, Palatine and Conant. We shall see how this all shakes out.

There's few bigger MSL West fans that me, and I agree that MSL Fan needs to slow his role. Truth be told, just like last year I think only Barrington and Palatine are still going after week one. Conant would likely have been if they hadn't drawn Stevenson.

I get where MSL Fan is coming from though..as the MSL West is a pretty good ..not great..but good, conference and gets little respect.

If you see my posts you know I'm a big Palatine fan...and when our junior QB Zach Oles runs for 985 yards and throws for 1453 yards and get very, very little notice...or when I read Edgytim's synopsis of St Charles North and he describes their future as "loaded" due to their junior class, and I know as sophs last year the now juniors at Palatine beat those guys 27-0...Yeah, I have to wonder why we don't get more respect.

I don't think Oles has received very little notice....

And contrary to my good friend Newt...I think Conant beats Stevie. The Pats have been overrated all year.

If, big if, Stevie can crank up the running game and keep its defense off the field they will do better than people think. Number 21 running is the key to that team.

If the offense cannot control the ball they will be in trouble because the defense has been inconsistent.

I could see that Quags. Won't matter much. Winner gets loyola
Conant will beat Loyola in the second round. The Ramblers played an easy schedule--Providence's offense collapsed this year due to QB Hunnerford having graduated and Rita is a program in sharp decline---and outside of the CCL Blue they played several real softies. They have not faced an offense with the talent level of Conant.

I've been the one who said Loyola is not as good as everyone claims they are but if Conant beats them I would be shocked.

Conant had that game and let it slip away sadly. As I said on Thursday...just Barrington and Palatine to carry the MSL West's banner onto the next round.

Going out on a limb here early, but truth be told I like both of their chances next week..Very well could see both in the final 8 of 8A

Wait, what? Conant will beat Loyola? Try the old one game at a time. How'd that Stevie game work for ya? By the way, this is one of, if not the, most talented Loyola teams in the past 20 years. Coaching plus talent equals success. As for your assessment of the CCLBLUE, I have no comment. I am left literally speechless.

I'm a casual fan of the MSL and I can't say I've seen world beaters, but solid teams that can, when they happen to have a cluster of good athletes, play for the semis. Not much more.

I was thinking about your post when conant dominated the pats . . . all the way to the 4th quarter. Unfortunately they needed to play 4 quarters.
