Well we survived 9 great weeks of football - on to the second season

We learned

1 - That the playoffs will have a funny feel this year minus MC and JCA.
2 - That whoever survives 8A will be the best in the state
3 - That we will have new state champs in at least 4 classes maybe more.
4 - That Bradley is a scary scary bunch in 7A
5 - That rematches should be avoided in the first round - except if it's last years semis
6 - That Boylan and Lz are back in the post season which is a good thing
7 - That we get to find out just how good ESL really is.
8 - That the term "defense wins championships" will be tested in this years playoffs since so few teams play it
9 - That Prairie Ridge is the heaviest of favs in 6A.
10 - That there's no better time of year for HS football fans.

Let the game begin and .....Go Cubs Go

That a large portion of CPS schools fall into the 5A bracket and will be quickly sacrificed. Only Solorio has a chance to advance.

St.Joe's is no longer just a basketball school well at least this year(minus the loss to Rice in a game that should not have been scheduled). That the Prep Bowl playoffs will get all the whiners out.And finally that maybe it's time to go to all in playoffs(Including Inner City) like Indiana.Mt.Carmel,Providence and even JCA could destroy many high seed teams in the playoffs(the classes each school are supposed to be in)

AMEN! How much longer are we going to endure IHSAs antiquated playoff format? Go to an 8 game regular season schedule and everyone qualifies for the playoffs as in other IHSA sports. Early round travel is minimized, and most importantly, ALL the kids get to experience playoff football excitement!

All kids should not get to experience playoffs. I dislike it for all other sports as well. Playoffs should be an accomplishment and not something that is given.

So in your world it's OK for a good 5-4 team to miss out in favor of a public league team with a gaudy record due to a crappy schedule? We see this every year...

I don't think 5-4 teams should make it but that is another story.

There just needs to be a rework in qualification. IMO a 6-3 CPS school wouldn't be in over a 5-4 school with a much tougher record.

Godfthr,

I'll go back to it again now that PA expanded to 6 classes in football and propose the District 3 ranking system. It takes into account your schedule toughness i.e. Play higher class teams and be rewarded as well as you opponents winning percentage which is also geared to their willingness to schedule tough (equal or higher class) teams during the year. It takes care of qualifying and seeding all at the same time.

LHST,

On one side of the arguement you don't want everyone to qualify but on the other side you want to have poorly qualified teams play. I believe like you not everyone should be awarded a trophy but at the same time reward teams that play stiff competition rather than traffic cones.

Jwar,
I am saying I am not a fan of 5-4 teams qualifying meaning I was good with 6 classes. What I don't agree with is people trying to say certain 5-4 teams are better than CPS schools. My answer to that is most 5-4 teams regardless of geography lose in the first round. There are some minor exceptions however generally they lose just like the 6-3 CPS team does. Now if EVERY team had the ability to schedule all 9 games and not be affiliated with a conference, I may agree that the team who activity chose to schedule weaker opponents should not be rewarded. Any other statement is pure discrimination in which I don't agree with it.

"Lombard's Montini (10-4) became just the second team in state history to win a football title with four losses. Last year, Immaculate Conception in Elmhurst was the first when they won an Illinois High School Association Class 2A crown."

I don't understand why PR is a heavy favorite that week 1 game against Cary wasn't a blowout . It was a 7 point game up until the last 5 minutes of the game.

You're right, Lemont, SHG, CM, Montini (can probably throw Marmion in too) have to be the favorites given their precedence ;)

They have been curb stomping people ever since.
I think the team who has the best chance of beating PR is CG not taking credit away from the other teams in 6a. But because CG already played them in week 1 and that was damn close game. Like edgy said on CSN PR wouldnt want to play cary a second time.

Agreed, playing a big rival a second time isn't fun, but there are a few teams in 6A who will give them a game.

Lol how does that defense match up against the option? pr has scored 60+ points 3 times in the last 5 weeks
MCHS will have faced three teams in a row that run some form of option offense. That helps the mindset having prepared for it for 4 weeks. Stopping it is another story. I think they will limit it. Remember PR has to play defense too and I think they are susceptible to a passing attack that has incorporated more weapons, add back Price and MCHS is a different team. Look for a points over under around 75 and a close game
