What did you learn about aside from politics today?

I'm so sick of the pointless, time wasting political threads that I'm considering starting a thread each day devoted to things people have learned that day that have nothing to do with politics. If we devoted just 10% on politics here towards learning something useful we all be so much smarter and more useful.

Nevermind, I already knew that.

I learned that I could take 10 months off from swinging a golf club (recovering from injuries), go to the driving range and hit two buckets, not practice on the putting green one time, and then go the next day to the golf course and shoot a solid 77.........:( Sad things is, all the time I once put in practicing and would shoot a 77-85 every round, and this proved to me that I can be lazy and still do that. [thumbsup]

Hey Tiger, you really need to watch that drinking and driving and don't give us stories about how it was because of sleep medicine.

Being in my 40's, and walking 18 holes today........yes, I could use some of Tiger's medicine! Guess that's something else I learned today......golf carts are GOOD!

You must be naturally talented. I am stuck in the mid 80's for the past couple of decades. And I'm not getting any younger

I wouldn't say that. I drained probably five or six 15-20 foot par puts. Made only 2 birdies. I think I just regained some of my mobility I lost last summer/fall from an injury. I was in the mid-80's the past couple of years. Now my next round could be a 99......[laughing]

I don't hit it super long, but was probably 15-20 yards further today than last couple of years. Course was 6200 yards, so it was a lot of driver/wedge combinations. If I was forced to hit my hybrids, probably 90's would have been a definite.

Nah, he plays more rounds of golf per week than I do.........[laughing]

Seriously though, I will not deny that I play "improved lie" in the rough (tree roots, rocks). Not worth breaking my clubs over that.

I learned that Saudia Arabia has two mountain ranges on its west coast (Hijaz and Asir) that have elevations of around 7000 ft. I did not know this until today.

Here is something that I can ask the board as I believe we have a good group here that could give an honest opinion.

This couple friend of ours that has more money than they no what to do bought a quail hunting ranch in eastern Georgia a few years back. They invited us and a couple of other couples this past weekend and we all had a good time. Beautiful place. The man is a complete fake and always has attempted to act like a big ol country boy but he was raised in the middle of Atlanta with a silver spoon in his mouth. But he does like guns and hunting and is a lifelong NRA member which is all good as he is very responsible with it and has taught his children the same so I give him credit for that.

But I found out this weekend that he doesn't know how to field dress anything that he kills. He has a phone number of a real country boy down the road and when they kill something on the property, they call this guy to come over, field dress it and take it off the property to butcher it if that is what is desired. What self-respecting hunter doesn't know how to field dress their own kills? I'm talking deer, boars, rabbits, qual, pheasant, turkey. Of the guys there, I was the only one from a true country background with some hunting background and I was shocked. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I didn't know that either. I wonder if they get cold weather and snow there.

But speaking of Saudi Arabia and snow reminds me of a story Ali Rizvi told. Ali Rizvi is an atheist that lives in Canada who has a book out named "The Muslim Atheist." He was born in Pakistan and spent his youth there and Saudi Arabia and eventually moved to Canada. In Saudi Arabia he was in "American school," which I guess is a westernized school for the kids of people that work there but aren't Saudis.

When he was in about the 5th grade it was winter time in the US (although they probably don't get winter in SA). The class project was to make snowflakes. So they'd fold and cut up construction paper and paste glitter to it and hang the snowflakes up around the classroom.

Now and then a SA school inspector would come around. The inspector came one day when the snowflakes were hanging in the classroom and he got angry and started speaking angrily in Arabic (which the kids couldn't understand) and he got a pair of scissors and went around the classroom cutting the tip off the bottom of the snowflakes and then stormed out of the room.

After he left the kids asked the teacher what he was so angry about. It turns out that the snowflake shapes looked too much like the Star of David, which is on the Israeli flag, and that's what made him mad.

Ali Rizvi is a pretty interesting guy so if you ever get a chance to hear him speak check it out.

Being just 7,000 feet, I'm probably going to say not.....but that's a guess. The tallest peak in Hawaii is just over 13,000 feet and it does get snow in the winter time.

What I didn't know was that if measuring the Mauna Kea peak from the ocean floor where it rises from, it is over 33,000 feet and taller than Everest.

I learned that the spacecraft that made it to Pluto is lining up for a small outer object in early 2019. They are trying to predict its orbit based on motion between us and some stars early this summer.

I also learned that 82 can't help but post about politics no matter what the subject.

I learned today the Judy Garland is Liza Minellis mother.
This surprises me with your being a show tunes kinda guy and all. Our buddy Stu is giving a presentation before the WV BOE today to try and keep the schools in Richwood. He's done some great pro bono work for his old home town. Hope it helps.

Stick with the political threads or entertainment. I laugh my *** off at some of the comments we get from the contributors on politics and economics.

Damn, I will have to start drinking again and converse with the drunks. They too don't give a rats *** about discussing subjects really don't care if they know nothing about nor the embarrassment of the conversation, but I do appreciate most of you refraining from politics and business world.
