Sure hope Coach Thibs has a better plan this season. I am not sure we can keep charging straight ahead into the blockers. Meanwhile all the action goes right around them. Or the QB feels little pressure.

From the Norman Transcript this past Tuesday. Looks like a few are still in limbo.

NORMAN — Oklahoma’s defensive staff continued taking shape Tuesday with the hiring of Roy Manning as the Sooners’ new cornerbacks coach.

OU also made official former Missouri assistant Brian Odom’s hiring as inside linebackers coach, a move reported by multiple outlets Monday.

OU has filled both its vacancies, though more changes could occur depending on what’s in store for outside linebackers coach Bob Diaco, defensive ends coach Calvin Thibodeaux and former interim defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill. A university release did not state whether the entire staff had been solidified.

take it for what its worth but a on Ruffins Wiki page it list him as the outside linebacker coach. Diaco says he's a former coach at OU.

I'm hoping they don't retain a single person who "coached" the worst defense in OU football history. Can them all and start from scratch. The defense can't be worse than last, so what is there to lose?
Agree strongly.
Defensive coaches from these past years need to be let go.
Grinch has a very dirty diaper to clean up and I doubt if we will see any more than very minimal improvement at least until 2020.

And WE need to keep reminding ourselves of that, going forward...We didn't get in such bad shape overnight, and won't recover from it overnight...Sooner Fans are Spoiled...We want it YESTERDAY!

Yep, defensive coaches got lazy and too comfy, not much was done about the defense playing bad for a long time so they half assed on coaching those guys. Like a lot of places of employment there are always people that get away with doing nothing while others have to pull the weight to get things done. There were too many on the defensive staff not pulling their weight.
MS always said "players gotta make plays." Well coaches have to coach as well and I think there are plenty of players on D that can play better with some good coaching. We shall see, I am not expecting a top 10 defense next year by any means but it does happen all the time, a bad defense can improve drastically over one season with a new Defensive Staff. I truly believe we will see quite a bit of improvement over last season.

I'll reserve judgement; LR and company have to step up another notch but we absolutely have nowhere to go but up on Defense

Thib is the only one coaching the same position from last year!! How bout that 2018 defensive line? Was the DL our strongest group? Seriously, I don’t remember thinking that. But drank a lot when the offense wasn’t on the field.
Well, the O is not on the field, right now, Okla, and Surely, It's Happy Hour SOMEWHERE! Cheers! :p

Actually it was almost overnight; Blake to BGBS's natty was unexpected in the 2nd year but a STRONG D effort came quickly and slowly disappeared like a fart in the wind...

The offense certainly changed overnight. That was our biggest deficiency at that time. We couldn't move the ball if we downed a whole bottle of Metamucil.

I remember the excitement of the 99 bowl game (even though a loss) after the first winning season in a while. Expectations were there but really kicked in with Red October
