Scooter and Votto accounted for half the scoring [RBI's] for the National League in the ASG.

Pretty impressive.

Are there people that still cheer for the Reds? November 27, 1978...read about it and understand why former Reds fans understand the importance of that date...

You can knock this skid all you want, but they were due for a correction.

The better the pick they get the more it will help them.

I’d trade the closer (Iglesias?) if the return is of any value.

I’d keep scooter and Harvey and hope like hell Trammell can make the big league club next year at some point.

The year after next go all in and let Votto end his career competing for the playoffs. He deserves that for staying through the **** years after his signing.

As the past week has shown, it's all about pitching for the Reds. Maybe Hunter Greene by 2020?

After looking at those prospects it is without a doubt a bad trade for the Reds.

Do they still employ that loser from STL?

Why in the hell is that a bad trade for the Reds? They gave up their 4th outfielder in Duvall for Sims, a young former 1st rd pick whose Minor league success hasn't translated to the Majors yet. Throw in another P and an OF who have spent most of the season on the Braves this year.

Duvall can crush the ball, but he is hitting .205. I like him, but I am good with this trade. Sims has a lot of upside and the Reds were moving away from Duvall with Schebler and Winker being the future in the corners and young guys ready to move up.

Also, the Reds just took 2/3 from the Cards and 3/4 from the 1st place Phillies. I guess that 2nd half "tanking" hasn't happened YET after all.

I hope they hang on to Iglesias and get something worthwhile in return for Harvey. (Even better would be no one showing serious interest and the Reds signing him for the next few years to a bargain contract).

Because Sims hasn’t been right since being in a damn bus crash. Before that you are right the kid was dominate, but that crashed did something so it isn’t like he forgot how to pitch or lost velocity.

Hopefully, like Harvey, a change of scenery will be all he needs......but it doesn’t seem like it since ATL tried that by bouncing him from single A to double A.

Good luck though

He has a 2.84 ERA in 14 starts in AAA this year with 83 Ks in 73 innings. THIS YEAR.

He is 24 years old.

He may pan out. He may not.

But Duvall is about to turn 30 and was due a big raise next year. He is already the 4th OFer for the Reds and next year it looks like they will move Scooter Gennett to the OF.

Glad Harvey is staying put for now and hope they will re-sign after the season. Very well could still get traded before the waiver trade deadline August 31st so long as he's on a team's roster before Sep 1st he would be eligible for a team's postseason roster. I'm all in on him sticking around being a rotation piece to anchor the starting 5. Holding onto Iglesias is smart with a team friendly contract through 2020 for a team on the verge of being contenders in the near future.

Willy I hope it works out. Sims was on my fantasy team a few years back as an up and coming stud it seemed like.

I haven’t followed him this year just knew he was always on my radar and after that crash he never did much.

I agree Duvall isn’t a loss, but with what Cinci has in place it seems more like a move by a team that should be sellers and isn’t getting many offers.

That isn’t a bad thing if it helps keep the nucleus intact. Really it seemed like a Walt Jockerty move which was the basis of my original knock on it.

I agree with this. Keeping Harvey means the front office has hopes of a competitor sooner than later.

I watched Campano(?) pitch the other night and was thoroughly impressed.

Throughout June and July the Reds have probably played some of the best baseball of anybody. They’ve won 8 out of their last 10 series or something close to that. And it isn’t like they’ve been playing slouches either. They swept the Cubs. They’ve played very competitive against first place teams. So they are IMO a few pieces away from being a contender.

What pitchers or other Free agents will the Reds have a realistic shot at getting to bolster tbings for next year?

I agree but they also had Duvall locked up until 2021. Tucker is only locked up one year longer 2022. The thing about the trade is where's the run production coming from. It's not realistic to expect Tucker and Ervin to produce 80 homers and 260 rbi's in 2 1/2 years.

Cinci should not focus on FA unless it’s a complete steal. Their market doesn’t allow them to open the check book and every time they do it backfires and cost them more than it helps.
I agree and believe Cincinnati needs to focus on taking care of their own players. Paying them with this increased payroll Williams said about 2019. That's been the Reds problem not keeping around the quality players they have and losing them elsewhere. Get a core group to build around and keep them. This group finally looks promising.

Tucker and Ervin?

Tucker was a throw in for depth.

I expect next year's OF to be a combination of Winker, Schebler and Scooter. Ervin could work his way in there. Trammel will probably need another year in the minors, but he will be in the mix, too. And I forgot all about Billy Hamilton. Not sure what his future is with the Reds.

The IF will be shifted around for Nick Senzel. That is why Scooter will make the move to the OF. Dilson Herrera could make some noise at 2B, too.

I'm not high on Irvin at all. I guess he could be a fifth outfielder next season behind Hamilton, Winker, Scooter, and Schebler.

The last GM wasn’t a good talent evaluator, plain and simple.

It’s easy to second guess him with ideas that were obvious AF at the time too, but hopefully the new guy is better.

Trammell is going to be a beast in a few years which if they plan things right it would be easy to see him being that last piece that pushes the red legs for the playoffs.

The Reds' offense is good enough now. The starting pitching is still pretty terrible for the most part. A few of these young arms will reach their potential, right? I mean the law of averages says that it has to happen eventually.

Campano seems like the real deal to me. I know I said that Duvall trade was hot garbage, but if Sims gets back to where he was 3 years ago he will be a stud.......maybe a #2 but if you can hit then a rotation full of 2’s can absolutely get you to the playoffs.

I'm hoping for a legit MLB #4 out of Sims. That would be a great get for a .205 power hitting 4th OFer.

If he can get his minor league game from this year to translate to the bigs, he's in great shape. But it ain't that easy.

Who is Campano?

Are you combining Castillo and Romano? They have both been similarly frustrating. Each showed flashed this year and last but have ERAs hovering around 5.00.

I might be. That old redneck commentator kept talking about Castillo the other night while some big white dude was lacing 96 mph heat then on a 2-2 count they mentioned the guys slider is suited perfect and could draw a double play easy......

Like clock work, 87 mph slider low and away, ground ball dbl play inning over.

Not sure who the guy was but have had it in my mind that it was Campano......so probably Romano.

I've seen no indication that Scooter is moving there but it really has to happen that way in order to come close to that kind of run production. Which is my point.

If Senzel is what they think he is, Scooter may be on the trading block as well. Not saying I agree with that.

Yeah Romano has pitched relief recently and has a nasty slider in this 6-man rotation.

Saw that! Got hit hard too.

He may be a bullpen type guy, and those are valuable too.

Yeah, every time I get my hopes up they find a way to destroy them in an even worse manner than before. The Florida game last year was the most recent football example. I am gearing up to try to not get my hopes up, get my hopes up, and have my hopes destroyed again this year.
