Do they have any faculty assistants, or just part-time volunteers? That seems to have been an issue in the past. This was a program with storied history and always one of the best teams in Guilford County. Over the past 3-4 years it seems like they are a doormat that doesn't have any athletes or discipline. They always use to have some of the best athletes in the state.
GoN, do you think 3 and 4 go hand in hand? There have been many threads on this but I’ll
sum it up below.
1. They have been killed by redistricting/school choice in high point whereas many of their former middle
Class whites and blacks now go to Southwest Guilford under the new system (and bingo, Southwest becomes good in basketball and football over the last 5 years, and this year for example is the only undefeated team left in Guilford County).
1a. Andrews is trending towards 1a enrollment (take away the aviation academy which is included in their 10 day enrollment) and they are damn near there already. This has brought their numbers way down. They still have athletes and some really good ones but not nearly the numbers and depth they once had even 4-5 years ago. It’s beyond sad.
2. Turnover in administration at the school
3. Turnover in head coaches
4. Too many Non teaching coaches on staff because administration doesn’t see value in hiring teaching positions with coaches
FWIW, realignment will be based on the 2019 ADM numbers for the school year beginning fall 2021.Mostly yes. I know that the new head coach has advocated for more staff coaches but with turnover in administration and AD, I think he’s been fighting an uphill battle in getting teachers hired who also can and will coach. Another item of concern is the dwindling enrollment at Welborn Middle which is Andrews primary feeder school. They are in the 400’s in enrollment. That lends itself to Andrews being 1a in next 5 years without any changes. Also worth noting that Central’s 2 best players (whose parents are Andrews graduates and were big time football players in their time) went to Welborn Middle but chose to go to Hp Central due to all the inconsistency in staff at Andrews. Major changes need to happen at Andrews....
Seem to remember reading that one of the reasons Patterson left was the administration's unwillingness to hire teacher/coaches. Certainly there are exceptions, but faculty to volunteer ratio often seems to correlate to success. Especially as it relates to discipline.Mostly yes. This realigment will be for four years, ending with the 2024 school year.
