One trait above all else shows a coaches ability. How much better the coach can make the player.
Simple right? I understand that different sports require other various attributes depending on that particular sport, but at the end of the day a good coach will make a player better at whatever sport they play.
I am going to cherry pick a couple of examples relevant to Stoops to illustrate why I feel he is not the best "coach" for UK.
First, Matt Elam. He is the best case study for this topic since he is by far the most ballyhooed and highest rated recruit to come to UK. The fact that Saban was taking a private jet to court this kid says to me he had the potential to be a quality ball player.
Anyone who watched the UF game would never believe that guy has received 3 years of collegiate level coaching. He has no technique, none. He doesn't know how to even leverage his body to hold his ground. His conditioning is suspect which is hard to even imagine how that could be possible after being in an SEC program for 3 full years. Coach Stoops has without question failed to develop Matt Elam.
Second, Drew Barker. 2nd highest rated recruit. Also courted by big boy schools. Also appears like a deer in the headlights entering his sophomore season.
Third, Dorian Baker. Kid has a ton of potential. Huuuuge hands, strong frame and not developed.
Boom Williams, Jojo, Towles, etc. etc. etc.
I can't think of a single player who has outperformed their expectations under Stoops.
