Got this from poster USA2011 on the College Basketball Board and I thought it would be a worthy thread here.

Boy Scouts......excellent food and great nights of sleep....

I did some things with the Boy Scouts also. I'm camping challenged so it was really tough on me. Got some stories. Camped out one night when it got down to about 8 degrees and had to get up to take a leak. Worst night of my life. OFC

Helped a 11 year old learn to do basic math in Durham as part of an after school program. He was worth the effort. I wish I knew how he is now as a 25 year old.

What up guys! I decided to jump back on the board, being the hoop season is right around the corner. I think this thread is great, and it warms my heart knowing members of the Duke family care so much for others. Not sure if this is the right thread for my post, but being I wasn't paid and I enlightened people worldwide, I figured that was grounds for "volunteer" work. My volunteer work went like this...

For the betterment of mankind, one summer I tracked the footsteps of Gary and the "mafia", for a solid three months. During my three month stalk, I submitted a daily report to people worldwide on the superior recruiting intel, the incredible basketball knowledge, and the many layers of always being right, of the incomparable Gary. After seeing firsthand the timeless hours he and the mafia put in on the recruiting trail, paired with his horrible 1 for 47 accuracy rate on where recruits would end up, this was an absolute life changing experience. His innate ability to try, and if in fail try again, was simply mind blowing. I will share one of my daily logs with you guys, that way you can understand how fortunate I was...

Aug. 1st
Tonight, after being on the recruiting grind for 52-80 (somewhere in that neighborhood) straight hours, I witnessed Gary jump into a game of three card monte in the Waffle House parking lot. With a full belly of Bert's chili in tow, the legend Gary with the "mafia" by his side, managed to guess wrong for three straight hours. It wasn't until after one of the "mafia" members hooked him up to an iv drip of nanner pudding, that he finally won a game. After winning that one game, he quickly pointed out that the reasons he had not won a game in damn near three hours, were because he had a nagging injury, the dealer had a "handler", and the dealer had also been paid off by a higher power! After his lone win, we left. Shortly after leaving, and to the amazement of everyone, Gary called a timeout and pulled the "mafia" together. All the members of the "mafia" with their heads down, formed a semi circle around Gary. Gary promptly instructed the minions to pick their heads up, and not to worry because he was going to write a "Stats and Stuff", that would heal all wounds that one might have encountered by watching his three card monte fail! I can hear Gary so clear uttering the words, "mafia members, even though the scoreboard doesn't reflect it, we won tonight"!

Tonight, I learned the biggest lesson of all... Lying paired with bitching and moaning allows you to be the person you always wanted to be! Thanks Gary, you are my man crush, and I am proud to share first names with you!

I went into that summer a mere toddler in life... and came out MAN!

Twice a month my congregation gives food to 300 people roughly

But why do you have to do it roughly? Couldn't you just give it to them nicely.

My most satisfying volunteer work is either with Appalachia Service Project (refurbishing houses for low income clients in the mountains), or with our local prisons.

I've done quite a bit, but in my line of work it's somewhat of a necessity to do be involved, as well. And I don't mean for that to sound bad, even though it kind of does....but trust me, I don't just do it because it may benefit me or my business.

-I've served on the BOD for local chamber's of commerce (was actually the President for one of the largest in MN, as well)
-I'm a member of the local Rotary club
-I serve on the BOD at my country club
-I'm a steward/deacon at my church
-Serve as President of our local amateur baseball association
-By next year I'll probably be on the Board of Education at the school my children attend

(Oh yeah, I'm also a volunteer moderator at this website called Devils Illustrated. I waste a lot of time on that one.)

Tommy Burleson (from the 74 NC State Championship team) lives near me and works with me (he is the County Inspector). He does a building mission trip to Malawi almost every year. He is a very generous man.
Tommy was a lean mean fighting machine and one tough hombre.

I spent two years in Paraguay on a LDS Mission from 2005-2007. I got to see the most humble of people and help them come to know of Jesus Christ. I learned a lot about whats most important in this world. I got to see first hand what corrupt governments can do to its people when they only care about power. I helped many people who had alcohol problems or marital problems get their life in order, it was the most satisfying work I have ever done.

For past 6 years I have been a coach/equipment Manager/ field Manager/ referee (slash/ slash lol) for the local Pop Warner football program. Very rewarding to see young boys and girls playing the sport in a safe manner.

Pro Bono work helping holocaust victims register for reparations from the German government. Watching the lady's hands shake while she was going over her testimony from 70 years ago gave me a more clear understanding of evil and if I could do just a little to help her or someone like her, I would do it everyday.
