Spend more money for what? To attract a top coordinator? Who would that be that would be willing to put their rep on the line to come to Ky?

coordinators and assistants don't have records to risk...

I will agree that a top tier HC is very unlikely here...as their legacy would take a blow...

...but assistants and coordinators do not have legacies to worry about...there are a number of guys out there who could be lured for the right price...

it may not even matter because it doesn't seem there are going to be any openings at least at the coordinator position...but next year if things don't improve...complete overhaul has to happen...and the AD is going to have to give CMS a blank check to go get the best possible...

If things don't improve next year they need to just give Stoops a blank check to leave. This is the year he should have made major changes to his staff. He refused and he shouldn't get another year beyond that without making a bowl game. Had he made at least a few changes he might have kept more fans interested, but I am afraid next year will start to look like the Joker years with attendance plummeting as the season progresses. There is still time to potentially make some changes. We also could lose a coach or two to another school. Unfortunately that would likely mean that we lose the best of what we have instead of the worst.

The only relevant question is whether or not salary has been an obstruction for Stoops in his hiring process. Has he ever had an "elite" coach willing to come to UK, but they couldn't pay what it took to make that hire?

You don't just overpay mediocre assistants because the rest of the SEC pays a high rate for top level assistants. I'm not sure that there is any way to know whether or not the guys on UK's staff would be on any other SEC staffs or if they would be paid more.

Truth is that if UK is underpaying these guys based on their abilities, other big time programs should easily be able to poach them from UK. This doesn't seem to be the case.

More money for what purpose. Those other schools pay top dollar to attract high profile assistants. We've already established that we aren't going after top assistants. We are keeping with our inexperienced staff. So should we do what we did with Stoops' contract and offer those inexperienced coaches a salary that the higher profile assistants get? I'm not sure what that would fix. We would just be spending money for no purpose other than to move up on those lists of what coaches are paid. It wouldn't be an actual upgrade just an expense.

Now if you wanted to actually go after the assistants that Bama or Georgia get then yeah I say spend the money but again that's not the plan.

USC was in worse shape back before Lou Holtz came than UK was with Joker. I don't know if its the blueprint to get a program off the floor and moving up the ladder but it worked for them. They lured a successful coach out of retirement, Holtz elevated their program to competitive before he stepped down and they did the same thing with SOS, who took them to some great seasons. He stayed a couple years too long and it was a long process, but they finished top 5, won the East towards the end of that time. They could have gotten a top coach if SOS had stepped down a couple years ago.

If we had a shot a getting a top notch coordinator, I don't think money would be a problem. Look what we pay what we have now.
