I started thinking that the other day. Seems kind of odd to make a move like that. He must've really not liked coaching under Petrino if he was willing to come and coach under Stoops and the three ring circus.

He's a smart guy. He can clearly coach up WRs. He knew Stoops from past stops and saw what he could do and had enough faith to jump over.

This team is inexplicably bad. These first two games really feel like we got hit by a freight train.

The inside Louisville folks said last winter that Thomas was going to be replaced in Louisville. He was already splitting coaching the wrs with Nick Petrino last season so he needed a job but no doubt going to UK and the way it was handled pissed UL off. The fact that he spent all summer spouting off probably made things worse.

Circus or not he has a nice mulit year contract and so far his WR group is not the UK issue.

Surprised the sunshine pumpers havent came to the conclusion that its Thomas's fault that the Oline, QB, and defense suck and to give Stoops an extension. Because progress.

Thomas, IMO, is one of the better hires Stoops has made. It would be nice if the receivers were better used instead of always trying for the big play. Having a QB with tunnel vision doesn't help either.

The reason the QB sucks is not his fault. The D Line must give him some time to set, more then 1.5 to 2 seconds. He's usually running for his life. He has NO protection.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

Pretty sure that Nick Petrino is just QB coach now. That is all he does and Lamar Jackson is doing pretty well. I don't think we can criticize him.

They moved someone else or hired some other coach to be WR coach. Maybe the new OC does it now or a grad asst was promoted, can't remember.

From having spoken to LT briefly over the summer, the split seemed to be the result of a 'morality' issue as much as anything

Jeez!!!! Now we have another Mormon Mitch Jr!!!!

I'm sort of sick of "morals" when we have more arrest than most teams not named Tennessee. If we are going to rely on "morals" to claim victory then we should have fewer arrest than anyone we play. This is stupid sad if true. I hope you are wrong!!

What have i done

He was one of the good hires Stoops has made. I think Stoops will be forced to fire the DC and line coaches. If he makes the right hires there then that buys him 2-3 more years in my opinion.

Not saying it's right, but that's what you get when you hire first time head coaches. They're learning on the job.

LOL! Lamar Thomas is thinking that he is making a lot more money at Kentucky than he made in Louisville. Honestly, some of you guys have no clue how these things work. Thomas has made it clear that he hated working for Petrino. Sure, he could find himself back on the market if things don't work out for Stoops. But if that happens, his references will come from an SEC school, not from Bobby Petrino who obviously didn't like or support Thomas.

UK fans favorite subject. Fire the coaches because the players are very talented.

Proves the adage that history teaches that no one learns from history.

There was a lot of noise of Lamar leaving long before he did, not sure why but from what I gather his personality and Petrino's demanding style did not mesh.I think Lamar being Lamar was probably fed up with Petrino and approached UK about switching sides as a means to get paid more, make a flashy exit and stick it to Petrino thinking this year and next and year will be the years that Stoops and UK steps forward. Unfortunately he was wrong.

The move has worked out for both sides so far. On another note, if Barker continues to play the way he is it won't be long before his receivers check out mentally the same way they did last year.

That's correct - Nick Petrino coaches the QB's. Lonnie Galloway was hired as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. He was the wide receivers coach and associate head coach at West Virginia for three years before coming to Louisville.

Nick Petrino was a grad assistant last year but was helping Lamar Thomas coach the wide receivers last season. Take that however you want....

Well in that case Lonnie has his work cut out for him. The sheer amount of drops in that Syracuse game was baffling.

So far I think Lamar has done a great job (compared to the effort we've had the last 2 years) motivating our guys to catch the damn ball. Blocking on the other hand... ughh.

Thats not his fault. The quick screen you take the snap and you get rid of it. The longer you hold onto it the more likely it is to get intercepted or you're gonna get laid out (especially with this offensive line). That INT was the wide receivers fault for not making a block and to be honest it was just a hell of a play by the Florida defender. So please bring that one up one more time.

I was baffled by it too, at first. Turns out that UofL did not bring enough gloves for the players to change them multiple times during the games - it wasn't thought to be necessary playing indoors at the Carrier Dome. However, there was a record heat wave in Syracuse on Friday, and the Dome was very hot and humid - so the UofL players had to play with gloves that were soaked through with sweat.

That certainly doesn't explain all of the drops nor the 6 fumbles (2 lost), but for a UofL fan it is nice to know that there was something out of the ordinary going on.
