What should be demanded of season ticket holders

There's a great thread below about what season ticket holders should demand from the team. I agree with most all of the suggestions. But let's turn it around. What should the team demand of season ticket holders? Let's not pretend that being a season ticket holder is the same thing as being a customer at a restaurant or something. There's an understanding that fans, and particularly the most committed fans, the season ticket holders, have an emotional bond with the team. That said I'll start.

1) Show up to the games. No further explanation needed.
2) If you can't make it, don't sell your tickets to visiting fans. Or to brokers, which is pretty much the same thing.
3) Especially don't sell your tickets to racist Badger fans.
4) Cheer the players when they are introduced and when they perform well or give noticeable effort.
5) Be supportive when they are struggling. These are unpaid kids giving their all for our school. Never forget that.
6) If you must show displeasure, direct it toward the paid professionals (coaches, administration, etc), but always remember that they are doing their best as well, and their families might be within earshot.

We, as fans, have a roll to play in the rebuilding (just plain building?) of the Northwestern basketball program.

Good post!!

I think you're being generous assuming the season ticket holders have an emotional bond. Fans with an emotional bond at least show up to a majority of the games.

After #1, I'd like to add: "Understand that fan is short for "fanatic." Demonstrate your enthusiasm a little bit. It's an advantage for the team - especially in a small arena."

I'd also like to add a little something after #5. "Every year is new. Being supportive includes leaving some of your personal baggage at home. Enter every season with some blind faith and hope ... at least for a few games."

If I can also add a personal note: To the guy who sat behind me for five years and screamed, "HE'S TRAVELING," an minimum of five times a game, understand the rules before you scream about them.

I'd also love to see amendments for an online fan base.

Good ideas guys. Wonder how that would impact ticket sales as the AD produces worse and worse product each year. Are there really that many NU alums that really love sports, live in Chicagoland and aren’t smart enough to realize what a colossal waste of their time and money that this ‘deal’ would create?

I would love for them to roll this out during this year. That would seal the end of purple at games for sure and get a lot of unworthy asses out to the curb.

The sad part is the lack of understanding. Teams need fans, not the other way around. Lack of interest means program dies. Without a strong fan base, nobody wants to play for your team. Eventually, the B1G, the faculty, the alum- something of consequence would get sick of running a college version of the Washington generals out there.

And Chicago is a huge market. If nobody in Chicago is watching NU games…well, the ad revenue for those time slots dries up so…

But this is exactly as predicted. Instead of getting mad at the AD, some diehard ‘fans’ will blame admissions, the fans, probably my presence of this very board. Because they just don’t get it.

THAT was deleted?!?!? THAT's what we're going to pull out the rule book for? So be it. It's your ball.

I hope it's a sign that we're going to start putting some work into managing the board. Maybe we can actually pay attention to the rule about saying "the exact same thing about the exact same topic day in and day out" or dominating the conversation. Or maybe you don't believe 12-15 posts a day saying the same thing is any problem. It's your ball.

Btw, I assume you refer to me about repeating. Problem is almost all my posts are responses. Therefore, it would mean someone else is also repeating the counter point so gotta delete that too. Hmmm, will there be much left except for a couple of threads with exactly two posts?

Your version of reality is at least creatively repetitive, Bob.

Sorry to be Will Smith to your thread, PurpleCat. I too wish what's left of the fan base would get it together. It's one of many layers on the cake that make it a lousy recipe.

NU went for the money. Donations required for first floor and all the top seats. Result don't have much right to demand anything

Season ticket holders occupy the first two rows of the upper deck at center court. There are plenty of fine ST to be had if there was a demand.

i suspect he is more referring to the +/- dude's repetitive comments than you, at least with that point...

when we talk about recruiting...come on....players interested in NU want to see a great atmosphere...not a stadium filled with 3/4 other fans...Also agree that NU should help by doing something to get NU fans in the stands...dont know exactly what that is....but they have a world class business school...lets get on it.! I inevitably spend most of my time yelling at opposing fans who surround me....

It’s the only home stadium I have ever been in where I felt I had to watch my back!

I think an obvious commitment to field a competitive team with some greater transparency would probably revive many that have lost their interest. For both programs.

And I totally agree with you.

Unfortunately, you’ve got to win first, at least for most fans. Does NU do any outbound group sales? (I haven’t been to a game in years, so I don’t know what the in game announcements are.)

Early in the Mark Cuban era, they had a sales rule “don’t talk about the game results”, because they were baaaaad. That seems to be an approach that NU should emphasize.

At least they could point to the tall German dude with potential though ...

In 2017 NU's home attendance averaged 7,000. While I understand that does not mean there were 7,000 butts sitting down, win and they will come.

This is true, but it's already been discussed to death on the board. Let's not have this thread turn into yet another thread of what NU must do. I meant this thread to be more of a JFK "Ask not what your (basketball program) can do for you. Ask what you can do for your (basketball program)." If you think you have no obligation to the program, that's fine, there's already a million threads for that kind of talk. I'm looking for more suggestions of what we as fans and season ticket holders should do.

No one is saying that there are not currently enough. Just that for example to get to the first floor takes a donation of $600-$25K before a person can even buy the tickets. At that point they have lost the right to demand from the ST holders

NIL, half million in tuition and stuff, priority registration, tutors. And some nice swag if they accomplish themselves. I also got a nice watch when we won conference and I hear natty results in a nice ring.

A $600 donation plus the cost of the tickets themselves (another $400, I believe) is… not a lot in the scheme of P5 athletics.

Re #5, we need to figure out a way to contribute to NIL to make them "paid kids"
