When I moved to CA in 1995 and started work, we had a meeting in which my manager mentioned a guy who had "just moved back east." Kinda being from "back east" myself (I had been living in Atlanta before CA), I was curious, so I asked exactly where the guy had moved to.

Phoenix, the answer was Phoenix. Apparently Phoenix is "back east" to people from California.

To Californians, the U.S. map goes like this -California---->Las Vegas---->NYC

Nothing else.

I live in Indiana, lots of nice folks, of course we are right across the river from Louisville. Chicago is the friendliest large city I have ever been in. Everyone that waited on us, worked in a store, was sitting around in line for something, or whatever was very friendly. I work with folks from Chicago too, they are really nice. New York is just a different lifestyle than here. They are stuck in a box with 8 million folks, no time to be nice to everyone so they just kind of move on about their day. California folks are weird and frivolous.

All that said the people I think are the nastiest I have ever been around were the retired folks in South Florida. We went to Fort Lauderdale and dealt with all the Northeastern transplants down there. The ones that didn't really have enough money to be there and still had to work were the worst. Terrible service everywhere from these jerks. I have never gone back for that reason.

I know every place has their village idiots and turds, but people from which states are the worst?

1.) Michigan - Don't think I've ever met a pleasant person from Michigan in my life.

2.) New Jersey - Does this really need explanation?

3.) Indiana - Just an odd group. You have the jackwagon types like Dan Dakich. Then, you also have the weirdos, like the McLovin clone who was drinking out of the bleach container after Fort Wayne beat IU last night.

Yuse a fool, I'm from Michigan and don't like you either..

If BBUK is from Michigan then their case just got much stronger. Plus he quotes himself multiple times in his sig line... and they are really lame quotes, too. That multiplies the douchery by like ten-fold.

Ohio and Oregon. Places like Florida and California have too many transplants to weed out the statistical noise.

Another big thing is both states are full of ********. Across the state, top to bottom. Most states have a region or city where even locals will admit have a disproportional amount of dickheads; Ohio and Oregon are just full of them.

I hate listening to people from Ohio talk. They have that nasally, whiny sound with a slight tinge of a northern accent. I hate looking at them too. Something irks me about the way they look at you. That puzzling look, like they are trying to figure out quantum mechanics.

Look Ohio guy, I don't want your opinion on orange groves in Florida. Just move along.

I live in Indianapolis and find that the locals are all pretty agreeable. That said, people tend to stay in their bubble and it is damn near impossible to build new friendships with people. Also, this is where culture comes to die.

In Kentucky, we have bourbon and horse racing. Indiana....nothing. I went to a Pacer game last week, and they spent the entire halftime paying homage to the cast of 'Hoosiers'. Their signature dish is a bland, deep fried pork tenderloin sandwich [laughing].

Based on my limited time in Boston, I'm going with Massachusetts. It's like they pride themselves on being rude.

I haven't spent any time there, but you gotta think Oregon, Portlandia types might be unbearable.

Seattle. The biggest bunch of fake a-holes in the USA. 'Try hard' doesn't even come close to describing them with their elitist, liberal views on pretty much everything. Outside of Seattle, the people I've worked with in WA have been really cool though...

Massachusetts. By far. Some states can get a bad wrap because of their city(ies) - New York, Illinois, Washington. Not Massachusetts, though. They all suck, the lot of them.

Indiana and it isn't even close.
Based on my limited experience, I'd go with Illinois. Chicago really skews the curve for an otherwise decent state.

You've got that backwards. Illinois would be Indiana if it weren't for Chicago, which is to say it would completely suck.

I've traveled a bit. All this is IMHO.

Northeasterners (NYC, Boston) get a bad rap IMHO: those folks tend to be short and direct, but not rude. Frankly, I'm a fan.

SD/LA/SF folks, while all very different, always treated me well. Heck, if I had weather like those folks, I'd be pretty friendly all the time also.

Chicago tends to remind me of NYC, maybe slightly more "passive".

Southerners tend be the most friendly of all. Love the south.

The most un-friendly people I've met are right here in Cincy, where I work. If you're not part of the clique (west side, east side, Moeller, St X, blah blah blah) you're out. Not a fan at all. TERRIBLE fan bases (UC, O$U, etc).

Lived in California 5 years, loved it, loved the people. Having said that, now live in SWFL and we get tourist from about every state and country in the world. And in my own experience, the ABSOLUTE WORST are from Massachusetts and it isn't even close. Rude,Self serving, Cant drive, tightwads who never want to leave more than a two dollar tip. Just disgusting people.

Surprisingly, I have never had a bad encounter with New Yorkers, I really believe they get a bad rap.

The northeast has the worst people. I don't know what it is but they're the worst.

california just based on the sheer number of people in that state. Per capita ******** I'd say Arkansas
