Let my daughter pick where to go on Vac this year. She chose Chicago. She wants to see a Cubs game or WNBA game (she loves her sports). But other than that, anyone have any recommendations on what to do in Chicago for a week?

Take her to a Cubs game, Wrigley is one of a kind.
Both the Planetarium and Aquarium are great attractions and are enjoyable regardless of age.
Pending on how old she is, she may enjoy the the Magnificent Mile and the attractions around it.
Navy Pier is fun if it's a little warm out, you can also take a nice yacht-tour for like 40 bucks on the waterfront.

Oh, and to post a biased response, the National Hellenic Museum is one of my favorite museums in the world.

Make sure you visit West Engelwood and Garfield Park for good food. The dining is considered to be the best in the area.

You're welcome.

Blue Man Group.
Architectural Boat tour: if you're lucky the Dave Matthews Band tour bus will dump 800 lbs of **** on your boat.

Seriously. I've heard that Chicago is one of the best summer cities in the US. I've never been but a couple friends just bought a place there and they love it.

Some of you are clueless to crime in a city. It is confined to certain areas and only among criminals. There is absolutely no reason anyone in Chicago should ever run into a murderer unless they go to a White Sox game and get lost afterwards. Downtown is super safe and really nice. We went last year and walked 30 miles in 2 days and I never saw anything unsafe.

Heck I would bet 90% of all murders are criminal on criminal or family on family, so unless you sell drugs or have family in Chicago no one there cares enough about you to kill you.

Chicago is great pay no attention to these silly crime reports. The crime is based on the southside and westside of town. I know about Chicago because my family is from Chicago on the Southside. Downtown is completely SAFE you will have a fantastic time in the city. I would recommend that you stay close to the Chicago Theater because it's close to everything in terms of shopping, restaurants, hotels and the Chicago river tour's (that's a must for a first time visitor great views). Also if you are coming in from Midway Airport the L train has a stop right in the area. Also go by the Gold Coast area and eat at Lou Malnati you will see other fantastic restaurants in the area as well. Check out Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier and Chicago Science museum they are all great. Eat a polish hot dog, Garrett's Popcorn and take it all in you and your family will have a great time!

OP, I was on this network almost 9 years ago to the day asking this very question and here was the answer I got.

^True taste of Chicago.

Now then, for real, I went to Gino's East and had deep dish pizza, and it was legit the best meal I've ever had. Corner of Wells & Ontario, the original, the one where they let you draw on the walls.

OP should make his family watch the movie Judgement Night before going to Chicago. Pretty sure it's an accurate documentary about Chicago.

Take a leisurely stroll through the south side around midnight.

Make sure you were as much touristy garb as possible. Confederate flag wear gets you a bonus.

Seriously, though, I loved my time in Chicago. Great city ... in the daylight.

What dates are you going? Taste of Chicago is next month, the Chicago Air and Water Show is in August. Most every weekend there is something going on in either Millennium Park or Grant Park.

The question isn't what are you going to do? The question is, what aren't you going to do?
