Marmion over SHG
Danville over Naz
Curie over Marist
Minooka over Barrington

Any of these happening...my guess is no but you asked what would shock the most

There are others like your’s that would “shock” me more than HC over LA, but with all of the controversy based on Beth’s choice, this one would have the most significant reverberations.

Would the Naz one be that big of a surprise? Isn’t Danville pretty solid? Naz has been frustrating. They seem to refuse to put teams away and play to their competition a bit.

Any 3A team coming within 30 points of ICCP.
At Plunkett, or on turf in general, I just might agree with you...But on grass??? This could be a difficult week for IC, which I understand rarely plays on grass... And Peotone is a unique place to play...

Wilmington last year gave IC its best game of the playoffs. The Wildcats power run attack is much better suited for grass than turf. I dare say Peotone's rushing attack is the same. Lisle is the only I-8 school with turf (and Wilmington's personal house of horrors...). IC v. Wilmo last year looked like a 6 year olds' game when IC had the ball - snap, pitch, if Rowell got the corner goodbye for a TD, since he was the fastest man on the field (4x all state in track). And Ricobene (also all state in track) gave them a QB option that can't be replicated... Speed + good footing = defensive problems. (BTW, both Rowell & Wilmo's Owen Weaver are at NIU right now).

Playing on grass will likely slow them down considerably...the wind will likely be worse at Peotone... the footing will definitely be worse...I'm guessing IC kids have never seen a cinder track before like Peotone's (which was bad 40 years ago when I was in elementary school) with fans right on top of the field and kids literally playing pickup football in the end zones during the game...

Please! Tell me you'll take Peotone if I give you 30 points. Make my day. IC running clocks everyone in the 3A field.

You are absolutely out of your mind. They could play the game on Mars and IC wins by 5 TDs.
Last year's Wilmington team would have possibly running clocked this year's Wilmington team (a team that had to replace something like 17 starters and oh by the way, beat Peotone at Peotone)
Last year's Wilmington team moved the ball pretty well with over 300 yards rushing but couldn't stop IC at all. Last year, the only way Wilmington wins is if Ricobene and Rowell would have run into each other and both gotten hurt early. It was crazy how good the IC team was.
Not trying to disrespect anyone here, Wilmington or Peotone both. IC is a whole different animal. Top notch coaching, line play as good or better than any you'll see in the small school classes and after that a handful of kids that are faster and better athletes than yours. Oh and a QB that can sling it and WRs that can go get it. I think they could beat Rochester, at least last year with Ricobene.
A 3A team that beats IC better score pretty much every possession. If Peotone can grind out 4 yards a carry every time they can keep it close. Tell coach not to bother punting.
With all that said, I don't like seeing a team so dominant as IC in the small classes. I'd much rather see some compelling games, not 40+ point blowouts. I will happily eat crow if somebody were to actually challenge them, and I'd also like to see the I8 schools do well, but I'm definitely not holding my breath.

I watched both IC and Peotone play last weekend and I can tell you right now that this game won't be close. Peotone gave up 20 points to an average Paxton team that only scored 13 points against Watseka. (who got dismantled by IC 55 to 6.)

Peotone played Paxton man up with one safety high. I highly doubt they take the same approach this week, but it won't matter. IC is going to win this game and every game going forward.

You can move the ball on this year's IC team, but that doesn't mean you will beat them. Their 3rd string QB is better than most starting QB's in class 3A and their RB is the real deal. Peotone will score, but I have IC by 3 TD's.

First, you might just be right...last year's Wilmington team was the second best team in 3A after IC, and probably could go running clock on this year's team (my stepson & his cousin would have been 18 & 19; they lost a pair of 280 pound+ tackles to medical issues). This is probably the least physically talented team Reents has had in 10 years, going into the season I had concerns they might go St. Joe Ogden & lose their playoff streak..

After last year, I figured that if Wilmo had Manteno's QB (a classmate's son) & all state WR they could have been competitive...Speed kills, and Rowell & Ricobene had it...Weaver got run down from behind twice on what could have been long TD's, for the first time all year, which probably wouldn't have happened on grass...

My point is, on turf no one in 3A is within 30 points of IC because of their speed. On grass against a power run team with two true weapons? I doubt it is a 30 point game. Peotone has two 1000+ yard backs who can chew it up...Losing their sizeable lead to Wilmo was Peotone's slap into reality...Is IC the favorite? Certainly. I just think grass could be their nemesis...And Peotone's crappy field will not help IC at all...

No one took it, shows everyone agreed with me. I could make a lot of money betting after the fact :)
IC 29, Peotone 16....cold, wet crappy grass slows down IC...doesn't even score 30...Peotone scored more points than IC gave up in any game in last year's playoffs as well...Apparently my analysis was pretty good...

Good call. Peotone hung around longer than I figured. I thought IC would pull away earlier. Peotone has a great game plan that they executed well, just not the offense skill and diversity to score enough. Maybe Williamsville will have something for IC.

Not sure if Wilmo or Farmington have what it takes. Farmington likes to air it out and I don't see that working. Wilmo can pound the rock. I liked Peotone's approach but their O just wasn't quite able to hang.

Peotone had the best chance for an early upset with it being at their place. I don't see the winner of today's game giving IC much of a challenge. Even though Wilmington beat peotone earlier this year if Wilmington wins this week next week will be ugly for them. Wish I could go to Farmington to see a new field but it's not in the cards today.

I don't like anybody's chances in 3A against IC. Playing at Plunkett makes that task even tougher. Wilm/Farm-ington will have a difficult time slowing down IC on the turf.

Williamsville has a little offensive diversity and if they can play enough D to keep IC around 28 points, they might have the O to outscore them. Not sure who would host that one. It's quite a longshot, but I think Williamsville is the best bet to knock out IC.

IC will be at home against williamsville. If Byron can beat w'ville then IC goes to Byron. Either way I agree 3a is IC's class to lose.

Wildcats 37, Farmers 12..Cats need to break out the turf shoes next week...shut down a pair of 40+ point per game offenses the first two weeks...bring on IC

Wilmington better get their other RB back if they gonna have any chance of playing ball control a la Peotone.
