I understand that the "GROUP" that purchased the Lehman Golf Course & Country Club are also in the process of purchasing the W-B Campus outlined below in yellow. (63 acres+/-)
The "GROUP" intends to build a Luxury Hotel with accompanying amenities, swimming, horse riding, spa, various dining restaurants, etc. I would prefer a SUPER 8, that way I could afford the coffee shop.
I wonder will happen to the planetarium, maybe use as a children's attraction?

I believe you mean the Huntsville Country Club. Huntsville was just purchased by 3 business people for 15 million. Did not know about them buying PSU-WB campus. Not sure how I feel about this. I had been told earlier that the Cunningham family that owned the land agreed to sell it to PSU and there was a provision in the agreement that the land would always be used as an educational property. Please keep me informed, I am golfing tomorrow with a Huntsville member. I will see if he knows anything

Right, Huntsville CC

“ it to PSU and there was a provision in the agreement that the land would always be used as an educational property.”

I would assume or the land given back to the Cunningham family.

I am thinking there will be numerous legal issues popping up. Zoning for one… plus all the Hayfield properties that adjoin the CC… those folks may not be to pleased. I can see this taking a long time

I do agree
Bkmt, this is Lehman..................
one of the main complaints will be:
We purchased our properties/improvements made w/$750,000 homes next to a college Campus.
Yes, zoning should take many meetings & time.

Rumor is the 3 business people who bought the CC are interested in building a complex at PSU. The word is the are going to spend millions to create a “ destination” type facility. LMAO… in Lehman! Who the **** would want to go to Lehman in February! Today at a gym in the Back Mountain I heard that Misericordia Univ. is buying it…that would be more inline with what the Conygham family originally wanted… nothing can happen till 2027

Long story, oversimplified…….

Albert Barnes, who made his wealth in pharmaceuticals, was also vigorous art collector. In the 1920s, he created the Barnes Foundation as an art and horticulture education institution and bought an estate in Merion, PA. He had a building to display his collection. When he died in the 50s, his will was very particular about the collection including three particulars.

  1. The collection was to be used for the educational programs only and not for general public viewing.
  2. No part of the collection was to be sold or sent out on loan.
  3. The collection was never to be moved from the location in Marion

Over the years via many lawsuits, the collection was opened up to the public on a very limited basis, pieces sent out on loan to raise money, and eventually a new museum building was built in Philly with full public access and opened in 2012. It is considered to be a big saga regarding donor’s intent vs public access.

And the current Barnes museum is an exact copy of the one in Merion, with the paintings hung identically. It’s a good collection with one great Seurat, too many Reniors.

reminds me of our last visit to Northwestern, @rudedude and I visited The Art Institute on Friday. I'm not the biggest art fan in the world. He tells me they some Manet and Monet in their collection. In my best Happy Gilmour Voice I say: "Manet, Monet who gives a s*it"

This is probably Chicago’s most famous painting but Nighthawks is there too.

Chicago probably has more certified masterpieces than any other American museum. My favorite Picasso too.

saw that on a field trip from High School when I lived in Northbrook. Chicago has cool stuff downtown like Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum with the stuffed Lion from Tsavo and the German U Boat at the Museum of Science and Industry.

Yes, Chicago is a great place for kids. We’d stay in a Best Western a block west of Lake Michigan (easy swimming in the summer) and a half block from the Miracle Mile, take the bus down to the museums, easy peasy. Field Museum is A++. Also the Shedd Aquarium. No need to drive.

You'll do nothing and either (a) learn to either love it, (b) accept it or (c) list your pooperty and move elsewhere.

McCarthy is part of the group. Not sure of the others. Lodging would make sense as a holdup for bigger golf tournaments is lack of nearby rooms. Could also greatly increase wedding packages.

Is this the sort of thing where PSU will practically give the campus away to get it off the books quickly, and the buyer will make a killing long-term?

For a campus that is supposed to close in 2027…why are they putting underground electrical pipe all through the campus?? Take a ride buy… the entire campus is being done. And no one has bought it… I would love to know why PSU would pay for this… I am guessing it may stay open

Ya think so. I'd say 8 to 10 years ago, it was a given that some of the small campuses were in trouble. A lot of the smaller state schools (Clarion, Lock Haven, Callifornia......) are having problems and its going to get worse. Enrollments are just way down. So what does Penn State do?

They put 17.3 million into a facililty at Dubois in 2021, and built it the following year. I get a kick out of the fact that the second article doesn't mention the cost. Like no one will know money was spent on it.

PSU will be lucky to get 3 or 4 million out of that whole campus if they put it on the market. Let alone 17 million out of one building. Of course, the city of Dubois could buy it. Financial fruad is the rule not the exception of that town. google Herm Suplizio. My favorite is the $100,000 in cash kept in the roof of the building that the city soliciter admitting to picking up for Suplizio, and the soliciter has been charged with nothing. Heck, Suplizio is still walking around free, and the city of Dubois has paid upwards of $300,000 in legal fees for the guy.

I know I keep 6 figures in cash around in the ceiling for the united way. Sounds like normal behavior to me.
