What will it take?

I don't think this year has turned out as well as we thought it would, so far. The loss to USM, and then the blow-out to Florida, sure took a lot of wind out of our fans. The wins we had after that helped, but not closing out Georgia, and then losing to Tenn. has not helped, especially our play in the second half against Tennessee. Other then the onside kick, our coaches would not take any gambles.
When your down 19 points in the 4th quarter, and it's 4th and 1, what do you lose to maybe go for it if your on your own 40. What do you have to lose? If your team can't get the one yard, their going to lose anyway.
The offense in football has changed a lot in the last couple of years, but has Coach Gran changed with it? I don't know, but from what I'm seeing, I don't think so. Saban has changed, as noted by the hiring of Kiffin. Yes, I realize we don't have the players Alabama has, but I think we are comparable to UofL, based on our recruiting. You can have a good recruiting class, but you must be able to coach them up, and call plays for the offense, to put them in a position to win. I really don't see that happening at the present time. I realize that we will go to a bowl, but how many teams have we beat, have a winning record?
No, I'm sure not for getting rid of Coach Stoops after this year, but if he can't go at least 7-5 next year, with all the returning starters he will have, he should be gone. Just going to a bowl should not "cut it." If we are satisfied with just going to a bowl, then we will never be competitive in the SEC. I want a coach who can take his players and beat yours, and take your players and beat his. Yes, those coaches are out there.
I know some of you will say, we can't do that at UK. That's BS, and with that type of thinking, you will be right. If Coach Stoops can't get the job done, show him the door, and that should be the same for the next coach. Five years should be long enough for any coach to prove himself.
I've heard all the excuses. OL not good enough, QB not good enough, etc., well that's not the fans fault. That rests squarely on the coaches. They should realize players get hurt, transfer, don't work out, etc. You think this don't happen at other schools? I'm not interested in a bunch of excuses. Losers make excuses and winners get the job done! These coaches are paid a LOT of money to do the job, and UK fans pay a lot of money to see a good product on the field, so, Coaches, it's time to PRODUCE!

Wait....so you are telling me that our team won 4 SEC games for like the second time in 30 years, lost on a last second field goal to UGA, scored 35 against a more talented and experienced UT team at their place, have 2 thousand yard rushers on the team, been racking up 500 yards on offense (over 600 yesterday) and they are putting the offense in position to be successful???? My goodness. What in your mind is it going to take for them to be successful. Oh, and let me remind you that if not for a holding call to take away 3 points and had our best WR caught the ball for a TD, we would have beaten UGA as well. So, please explain.

The only thing that has not gone the way I had hoped was the SM game. If we had shown up in the second half and of course Edwards paying attention on that last drive the 1st half, we would be playing for our 7th win this week. That was about as good as most people's optimistic outlook was before the season. I think all this talk about winning the east has simply given fans some unrealistic expectations.

merrimanm, Your reply is exactly what I am talking about. I don't understand why fans continue to live on excuses. In my mind, to be successful, it's called WINNING, not EXCUSES. Losers can always come up with EXCUSES, but WINNERS don't have to make EXCUSES, they just WIN! I can't decide what you are, but I think you have decided for yourself.

I think this year has been an improvement when you factor in the terrible QB play we have (sorry, just how I view it) overall. Yes, we beat 11-14 in the SEC rankings, and we are 10th, but we also almost beat UGA.

That said, it is disappointing in year 4 that we are still getting our asses kicked in blowout fashion to 4 teams (FL, Bama, UT and most likely UL). We also had a home loss to Southern Miss, who is now 5-5 in their season.
