What, when, who??? Suddenly this Duke team is in a critical spot. Season is very young, but things CANNOT slip much further without SERIOUS concern. Whose going to take charge and refuse to lose? What's going get these kids to play for one? I hate to admit, but I'm suddenly very concerned the season could slip away here!!! I'll NEVER give up, much time to get it figured out.... But many things need to change

Imo, play Matt, Grayson, Luke and Amile and Jeter. start your upper class man. There is not one of those high draft freshman that has shown on a constant basis they should start over anyone else.

Quit with the refs! This isn't high school. The team playing harder always gets the whistles.

Got Bigs? We got four that barely see the court.

Jackson should come off the bench he can't stay on the floor!!!

No no.

"We were saying the same things about the 2015 team." and "This team will gel and eventually everyone will be in love with Tatum."

We aren't playing team basketball on either end, yet we're still competitive going one on one. If we can start playing as a unit, sharing the rock on O and rotating on D, we'll be darn good. The frosh don't know how to play team ball yet. We're not deep enough to play without them. Plenty of hope, but yeah, let's start playing together now.

Good post, Denver. K will be back, Amile also, and that will help too.

Whatever Duke does.

They don't need to change the starting lineup for a seventh time this year unless it's the final time!

Find an identity and roll with it.

If it is Grayson, Luke, Tatum, Amile and Giles.

Soon as Amile gets back stick to it. Although that same lineup let BC back into the game.

We can't stop a pick and roll and we all know we can't stay in front of athletic PG's. We are who we are, just enjoy it. Life is too short to get worked up over a team that just can't gel.

K coming back will not make a difference, Amile coming back will help a little. I used to get frustrated when we lose but age has taken some of that away, except for the 8 mile rivalry. Remember, ITS JUST A GAME!!

I like Grayson, Luke, Frank, Amile, and Giles.
But can Jackson stay on the floor long enough for it to be effective?

I like Giles starting but then again I also thought we would have been playing a big while Amile is out.
Maybe this week long lay off will wake one of Bolden, Jeter or big V up. If not start Javin

Why does anybody think vrank could help at all?

It blows my mind when I see someone mention him and playing time together

Because it's not like the other bigs are showing anything spectacular to say he couldn't.

What has Bolden done so great? Or Jeter or Javin?
He hasn't looked any different then the rest when he gets into the game.
But That's just my opinion

Vrank is on scholarship correct? i realise he is a FR but i would think he has some talent since he is on our roster. Maybe his time is 2-3 years from now but surely he could be used effectively for some minutes with his size and ability? Change things up a bit when we are needing to. This happens every year - we recruit and place scholarships on players that never see the court or get a chance. I truly dont understand why they are on the team if there isnt enough confidence to play them - practice dummies? surely not as they are talented players who could have gone to other schools.

Have you watched him? If so what does he bring other than a big body?

It wasnt really a specific about Vrank....more what we have on the roster to maybe change up the dynamic that is currently surrounding the team - BUT Capel did say we've given up 92 pts in the paint the last 2 games so maybe he could at least occupy some real estate down there!

Bury Tatum and bolden and play the rest. We looked this bad before K was gone so it's not capels fault. I've been critical of Jones but give me Matt over these guys. He's at least a team player
Agreed and Grandpa can shoot when he puts his mind in it.

He brings a fresh body that gives the other guys a chance to rest. What do you have to lose. You may be surprised. Everybody was trashing Zoubek and look what he did toward the end. Hell play Pags if it means he's gonna be a team player, gives the other guys a rest and eats a few fouls.

Zoubs helped the 2nd half of his senior year....not as early as Vrank....huge huge difference

If he plays in meaningful minutes I would be absolutely SHOCKED and upset too

You get where I'm coming from though. It can't hurt to throw Vrank in for a minute or two. He may suck at shooting but if he brings killer D and a big body I'm all for it. He's no Luke Maye or Kennedy Meeks but who is.

I'm not going to give up on this team or any player. I'm sick of reading about players being trashed after a loss. At CTC there was no doubt that Tatum was the best player on the floor. The coaches are going to have to get in his ear about sharing the ball and having a better shot selection. He came to a Duke to win a championship, he could of gone any where else if he wanted to just pad his stats and audition for the NBA. I still think he's a great kid and is still trying to figure out his role on the team. All the freshmen are struggling, but that's what most freshmen especially around this time during the season. They will get it together.

I saw Tatum at C2C and I thought the same thing I do now:the ball stops in his hands. His stats are always going to look great, but as long as his game is the way it is, this team is better with him off the floor. The fact that Capel allowed him to basically play PG in the second half against FSU instead of GA is coaching malpractice. I still believe that's why they lost. GA was playing well at the point in the first half.

For this team to cut down nets, GA, Kennard, and Amile need to be leading the team in FGA EVERY GAME. I know Matt can be a complimentary piece, but if guys like Tatum and Giles are unwilling to play that role as welI, I don't think it's possible for this team to reach its zenith.

Not being a downer but even Capel is unsure if Giles will ever get into the flow this season.

Right now, if a coach says they are looking for guys in the paint. Then maybe they should ask their selfs, meaning the coaches why you gave the five young bigs the scholarships and remind them of it. Not say in January your looking for a big to help.

Not getting any minutes for any of them can't be the answer.

No no.

"We were saying the same things about the 2015 team." and "This team will gel and eventually everyone will be in love with Tatum."

Disagree.

I am not giving up on the season.

But this team has not show itself to be near as good as the 2015 team. They were undefeated until they lost two in a row against NCSU and Miami (always a tough team to play for Duke). 2015 wound up with 4 losses total. This team is already 14-4.

The other factor is that the 2015 team had, by this time, shown its freshmen talent. All three of the top freshmen had shown that they were among the top players at their position.

That has not been the case at all this year. Tatum has flashed some but is very inconsistent. Jackson - uber inconsistent. No one else has shown themselves to be a top 10 calibre player.

Still holding hope but unless Giles really improves and Amile comes back soon to take the pressure off him - I think we'll have some trouble.

You guys will be fine when Jefferson gets back. he is a big part of your team on both ends of the floor and a leader. Seems like a great guy too

Vrank, no sorry. Vrank may get minutes down the road if our roster thins out at his position. Just give these kids time damnit, we don't need to knee jerk react to every play, every shot, every possession. These are talented kids, roll the ball out and give them the time to adjust. Who cares if we have 5-6 losses in conference play? I want my best talent, my best players on the court. Tatum is a ball stopper but let him figure it out. When they stop trying hard they go to the bench, until then everyone stop with this nonsense

Amile and Matt are counting down to their last Duke game. They don't want to go out with a wimper. Amile came back to win. Those leaders will step up and call out the young bucks.

I was so excited to see Giles play but he is pretty much useless. Very little D and nothing on the offensive end to speak of. Very disappointing.

Damn that's harsh, I see a player getting better each game. He's a great rebounder and is adjusting to playing again and the speed of the college game. Once he relaxes and settles down, he's going to be tough to handle. To say he's useless is ridiculous.

Fans on here overreact to ever dang loss.....! Anyone who has followed Duke over the years should know that a duke team typically struggles in early ACC rode games. Duke losing to VT was definitely shocking. But that same team took 2015 Duke National title team to OT with the same players on there roster. This duke team just needs time to Gel and stay injury free. Amile being out against 2 key ranked acc teams isn't shocking we had a hard time communicating on the back line... Harry hasn't played in basically 2 years and getting up to college speed of the game while playing with a big *** brace doesn't help.... Heard rumors he is close to playing with out the brace..... long story short don't give up HOPE on this team. Coach K will be back and so will Amile. Honestly I feel like we can only get better from here on. No more distractions just Duke basketball, exams out the way and players are getting healthy. I will not trade this Duke talent for last year's team I will tell you that!!! Go Duke

Relax people...I acually saw a lot of good things in this game, things I have not seen to date. Giles looking more engaged, comfortable, and lees apprehensive with his knees. Somewhat better shot selection with Tatum. And over all health improving. I have no doubt this if this team gets healthy and matures like it showed signs of at UL we will be just fine!
