What's the longest commute to a job you've ever had?

The longest was Lexington to Florence, KY for about 3 months. Wasn't that bad, was usually early morning or late at night so I didn't run into many issues...biggest problem was getting out of Lex quickly.

The worst was from Northern KY, Southern portion of county to Mason, OH near King's Island. It was like 40 miles but with decent traffic it was just over an hour. If there was a wreck it was horrendous. The worst part was I would have to leave 30 minutes before I theoretically needed to just to factor in an incident so 90% of the time I'd get to work 30 minutes early. Fortunately it wasn't a daily drive as I was in sales and didn't have to report to the office daily. I was constantly in my car though. Back in those days it wasn't uncommon for me to drive 100-150 miles a day all within one given market.

4.7 miles, but during 5 pm rush hour traffic it could take up to 25 minutes to get home, and that was with taking shortcuts to avoid some of the traffic lights and heavenward traffic congestion areas.

Had a 86 mile round trip commute for 9 years, with many of those miles coming after working 16 hour shifts. I moved after 9 years and had a 10 mile round trip after that. Can't imagine how much that saved me on gas, wear and tear on my trucks.

Driving a 4X4 truck, I wouldn't doubt it. The deciding moment for wanting to move was when I was going home off of a graveyard shift on US-23 and I drifted off to sleep for probably only a couple of seconds, but when I snapped awake I was blowing through a red light at an intersection. Thankfully there was no one else going through.

If traffic was bad enough it could take me an hour to go a few miles in Manila.

Here, I did Richmond to London for about a year. I’ve been working from home for the last several years. Can’t fathom having to drive to work again.

My company always had a driver assigned to drive us around Manila. Some areas of that place are wild to say the least.

In the 22 years I’ve been working, I’ve worked in DC, Philly, Eugene OR and Baltimore. Had long commutes in the 3 big cities because I don’t want to live in the city. Lived in Eugene when I worked there. Currently have an hour and 15 minute commute with daycare drop off. Doesn’t seem to bother me because I love where I live.

You've been working for 22 years and still using daycare . . . long commutes are not your biggest problem [winking]

I subbed at my dad's school in Queens when I was still living at home on Long Island and 21. It was 60 miles, perhaps 3 to 4 hours round trip. Hated it. Only did it for a year. My dad did it for 30 years.

In 20 years of working, I had never lived more than 8 more from work. In December we moved to a better school district and I'm now 20 miles one way (but basically all interstate and easy flow). I did that commute (30-40 minutes) for basically 2.5 months and then COVID hit and I've been working at home for 5 months.
