I've (somehow) never had a serious injury, but I've managed to dislocated a knee about once a year since childhood -- most recently about an hour ago. It really, reeeeally sucks right now but it'll be 100% fine tomorrow. I've also been hospitalized with pancreatitis a few time in the past; it's intense, nonstop pain that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Anyway, what's the worst you've ever been messed up? đź’€

Collapsed lung was probably the most serious.

Really bad ankle sprain was probably the most painful.

Had some decent head injuries. Mostly as an idiot/poorly-balanced kid.

Fell off a playground slide.
Got pile drived into those old elementary school slab floors.
Fell on one of those carnival fun house rides you run through. This one was bloody.
Took a nosedive into a coffee table. Also bloody.
A blowpop cut my head open, because someone threw it at my face.
And whacked it a few times skiing (with and without a helmit).

Literally never injured anything else. All head cuts, bumps, lumps and probably one or two undocumented concussions.

I’ve had a broken arm or two, and part of my foot. Those sucked and had to be in a cast. However, I’ve also broken toes on so many occasions that I’ve lost count. By far the most inconvenient pain and injury that I’ve had. With every step you’re reminded how stupid you are to have stubbed or dropped something on it.

Best friend hit me in the head with a homemade hatchet during a friendly game of cowboys and Indians. Don’t remember it hurting so bad (I assume I was in shock) but will never forget the insane amount of blood.

I've split my head open several times requiring a large amount of stitches or staples. Getting 9 staples shot in your head hurts like a *****.

Worst was probably my motorcycle wreck. I took a ditch at about 120 and ended up with a broken left leg, right scapula(shoulder) broken into 6 pieces, and all the skin on my right side basically sanded off from the slide.

Bicycle accident that I mentioned months ago in another thread.

Broke my ankle playing intramural flag football my FR year in college. Had to have two screws inserted into my leg.

When I was in 4th grade, playing in a vacant lot with some other kids, trip and felled, and my right hand landed on the jagged edge of the bottom of a Coke bottle in the tall grass. Incredible the amount of blood. My mom was so freaked out (dad wasn’t home) that a neighbor had to drive us to the hospital.

I'm an orthopedic surgeon's nightmare. Too many leg injuries to count, including a trimalleolar ankle fracture and a compound femur fracture.
If you only have a lateral and medial malleolus. How do you get a trimalleolar fracture? Break both on the left and one on the right?

Torn ACL in left knee playing basketball. Intense pain for a relatively short time.

I’ve had multiple kidney stones. I’d choose torn ACL every time as far as pain goes.

Compound fracture of my left leg. Hurt like hell & I was in a full length cast for 6 long months. OTOH, the morphine I got before the leg was set was amazing......

* Spider bite on my foot (likely a brown recluse). There was some discussion of amputating my foot. Hurt like a mothertoucher.

* A broken pinky finger from football that is still crooked.

* Nasty looking bruised sternum from football. Didn't hurt as bad as it looked though.

* Crushed the tip of my left index finger at work when a hydraulic jack slipped.

Diving board accident. Patella tendon ripped to shreds. Kneecap was halfway up my thigh. After I pulled myself out of the pool, I push the kneecap back down into place and tried to stand up. Collapsed like a gut shot Indian in a John Wayne movie.

Snapped my left pinky toe on furniture. Whole side of my foot turned black. Couldn’t get a shoe on for days. Crazy considering I have been in 2 car accidents that completely totaled both cars and had a small cut on my leg to show for both accidents. Knock on wood

Compound fracture of left arm at age 5. Fell off some monkey bars, landed with wrist bent forward. Broke my wrist and forearm, bone punctured my skin near the wrist. Remember a lot of pain, my mom getting pulled over on the way to the hospital that ended with us getting a police escort, getting a shot in the butt and waking up in a giant cast.

Separated my right shoulder in football practice in high school. Assistant coach popped in back in and I never had it taken care of. Re-injured it while helping a buddy move in college, never had that taken care of. Now, I know when it’s going to rain in advance and I can’t lay on it for more than a few minutes without it going numb.

Got a pacemaker back in 2016. Broke my right ankle a few years back. Took a plate and about 10 screws to put it back together.

I don’t like to talk about it because it brings back some terrible memories, but now my son has the same issue and has to have an operation this Tuesday so I guess i need to face my fears. Twice, once in high school and once in college, I got an ingrown toenail. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time.

If we’re not counting illness or having to surgically remove wisdom teeth, I don’t have much.

But I guess I’d have to go with when I was a child, it was raining, and I ran into Toys R Us to get out of the rain quicker. Didn’t stop to wipe my feet off on the mat just inside the door, hadn’t completely slowed down yet. When I hit the smooth floor, I slipped and fell. Landed on my knee, hurt like a *****, but it didn’t start swelling up until after a few hours. I could barely bend my knee for like a week.

Broken nose from a head butt during a basketball game only to have it broken again a month later with an elbow to the nose during a volleyball game. Both times from soldiers of mine. Accident?

Cracked ribs during a Karate tournament.

Broken hand (metacarpals supporting middle and ring fingers) during black belt test Jan 1997.

Lobotomy immediately after retirement. (Not really just something for those who probably think I did).

This one is head and shoulders above the rest.

A challenger appears:

On 30 June 2013, da Silva was refereeing an amateur football match at Pio XII, in Maranhao, Brazil. Da Silva sent off player Josemir Santos Abreu, 31, who refused to leave the field and began a fight with the referee. Abreu threw a punch, which prompted da Silva to draw a knife from his pocket and repeatedly stab Abreu. Abreu died on the way to the hospital. When fans watching the game, including Abreu's friends and family, found out about his death, they invaded the pitch and stoned the referee, before decapitating him, quartering him, and putting his head on a stake in the pitch.

Tough choice. Almost tore my foot off in a wreck. Three surgeries before it was all done. The other was a kidney stone. Drove myself to the hospital. They called in a surgeon and did emergency surgery at two a.m. They said I was almost totally blocked and could have died.

Shattered my wrist playing basketball and had severe nerve damage. Had to learn to reuse my hand again. This was 35 years ago and my right hand is still only about 75%.

Six years old I fell down a tall hill at my grandparents home. Knocked me out and woke up in the hospital. Did not find out till years later that my arm was wrapped behind me so badly they considered amputation. There is a rod that holds it all together but never best correctly. The elbow looks flat where the other is more pointed.

1999: Industrial accident that involved myself, a laborer, and the 20" steel beam we were carrying, when the laborer dropped his end, resulting in the "destruction" of my left knee. I was told that, anything that can be torn/broken, or otherwise hurt, was. The pain was incredible. Destroyed was the doctor's word, not mine, and it was. 4 failed surgeries later they gave me a total knee replacement.

That was 21 years ago, and while I obviously retired from welding, I still work. Now, the other "good" knee is done, kaput, shot. It carried me for so long now it's time for surgery: I undergo total knee replacement on that knee in just under 6 weeks. I dread the recovery like you wouldn't believe, but the terrible everyday pain, plus not knowing if it's going to just give out on you, make the decision much easier.

Thankfully, nothing near as bad as some of the previous stories.

My worst was rolling my right ankle when I landed on someone's foot while playing volleyball, 30+ years ago. It rolled over 90 degrees and the outside ankle bone hit the court. My foot swelled to twice it’s size, it was a hundred shades of purple, green and black from my toes to halfway up my shin, and I was on crutches for three weeks. Was quite a trick to drive with my left foot for a month due to the pain of moving my right ankle. X-rays showed nothing broken, but to this day it aches when there’s a big barometric pressure change, sorta like an old war wound.
