Racism exists throughout the world and always will. It will never die. Human nature won't allow it to.....and neither will the media and politicians do not allow it to at least diminish.
This country has spent 622,000 lives to end slavery in 1865. It has passed numerous laws to promote integration and equality during my lifetime (since 1948). It has elected a black man president for two terms. And yet, the racial divide today is as prevalent as it's ever been.
The divisive tactics of politicians and media go a long way in alienating us from one another. It seems to me that is a primary intention.
That division entails every aspect of life...along racial, ethnic, gender, age, socioeconomic and regional lines. Politicians and their exploitation of the media are widening our differences and stirring a very dangerous pot.
No political party should boast of having the monopoly for opposing racism. It's not....or should not be....a liberal vs conservation issue.
Maybe if we recognized the Holocaust as the ultimate lesson to be learned about hatred and bigotry...and then, learned from it...it would be a better world. But since when has anyone learned a lesson from history ?
