When do we go with Surace?

Athan is coming back down to earth. Starting to throw behind guys, trips over his own feet, Etc.

Sorace can move out of the pocket. He’s fast. We need him now. Why wait? Makes no sense. Can’t do much worse.

Get a head start on next season we are only winning MAYBE 2 more games anyway with this defense.

I fear surace is a poor mans athan. Hope not but he needs some playcalling with some insurrection or some motion dropping back and trying to fit it into Tiet windows is not going to be a great recipe.

Once it's clear we're out of bowl contention Surace needs some serious minutes. Athan has put up some nice numbers, but no good teams today have QB's who aren't mobile.

We have a QB that is most likely going to break almost every single season record for a QB at Rutgers.
mid a game such as Oregon gets 30 pts out of reach- Surace May get in there.
Other than that…we aren’t going to see him this year unless something happens to AK.
Heck- Duff and Strong are also having great years- can we just put some other WR’s out there?

You stay with AK, what are you telling your Senior that you are throwing in the towel. AK is your best QB.

Athan is not the problem. Kirk and his red zone playcalling specifically is the offensive issue. The defensive issues are less personnel and more awful coaching and assignment. When a player makes a mistake once it’s a player issue. When the player makes that same mistake game after game and year after year it’s coaching, system, assignment.

Athan should start but AJ should get a series or 2 a half

Athan is putting up numbers
I’d say F-it , I would audible to passes 95% of the time
I like this idea... it was clear W's D got comfortable with Athan's timing, habits.. if only to reset the opponent D and make them adjust.. a well-practiced series of possession for Surace might be interesting.

Why wait? You think Strong and Sheffield are going to stick around to break in AJ or start preparing for the draft. They will be told to do the latter by agents that want to represent them.

62%, 386 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT and that wasn't one of his better games.

What the heck do you expect?

Agreed. Consider getting AJ some playing time, especially if/when we are reasonably eliminated from bowl eligibility. AJ already has red-shirted (I believe), so get him some time on the field this year. Athan has performed admirably, and he does have decent stats, but he is probably near his ceiling as a QB. Yes, the D has been struggling a bit this year, but they have shown some improvement against the tougher B1G schedule, and it's fair to say that they have kept us close enough in most games to get a W. Surace may have something in his game that can work some magic, even when the play calling is not the best, and the D is bending but keeping us close. Give the kid some opportunities in the coming weeks when it makes sense.

Anyone that says "start" Surace in any game at this point is just being silly...Now, if games get lopsided, either good or bad- get him in for some playing time.

I just saw someone say AK has decent stats but is probably at his ceiling. He has much better than decent - and if we have a QB playing at his ceiling and that ceiling is 3500 yds and 22 TD-6 INT....well, dont we always want a QB playing at his best??? And a bunch of you not only want to penalize him but also 2 great WR's and another very good one,
Imagine you are the family of AK or any of the 3 WR's who all hope to have any shot at the NFL...and because your defense and ST's suck- you have a coach screw that up for you by sitting you or in the case of the WR's- changing a QB who is on point with almost every pass to you.

some may say a coach's job is to win games and players should all be about "team" - BS - AK has earned this right. And the way he is playing, he will at least find a camp next year. You sit him and he won't.

Wimsatt lost the starting QB job at Jax State to a true freshman
GW lost the Kentucky QB1 spot to a true freshman as well. He was a very good athlete here by all accounts but could not dissect a defense, make good decisions and couldn't deliver the ball. He didnt get any better at subsequent stops and now got benched at Jville. History repeats itself.

I always hate to knock GW because he really seems to be a good kid.
And I find it tough to knock any player who just find the next level up to college is just too much. It is why there are half of every team that never sees the field. And the worst player is most likely mult times better than I ever could be.
It just seems that the speed of college ball was just a little too much for Gavin. And when that is the case, there isn’t much to do about it.

I credit the Washington defense along with that
Their line had their hands up, swatting away passes that normally would have, been reception s..... More so than we have, seen from other defenses

The,defensive backs were on our, receivers more, better prepared for our receivers
And even with that, good numbers by Athan

You look at the games we are losing, and its as plain as anything its our defense that is,the problem
You want,to,win bty fixing bad defense with more offense?
Tough to win that way

I will say Athan didn't seem as comfortable in the pocket as we've seen this season but that may be due to what you pointed out

Good d-lines know how to be disruptive even when they aren’t getting home. Washington obviously saw something on film and instructed their d-line to have active hands in the passing lanes.

Remember when fans insisted Wimsatt was playing well despite the evidence? This bench AK sentiment is like a reverse Wimsatt
and someone was upset that I said half our fans must have eaten paint chips as a kid.

another indictment of Greg notched on the headboard
