I guess the fairy godmother went around beating up everyone didn't she. Sean says wilding didn't exist in the late 80s. Kind of like you and Sean celebrate when you watch The knockout game. Whitey had it coming didn't he. Congratulations, you're only slightly smarter than Sean.

By the way I've known about the Central Park rapist case since 1989 when did you two chumps learn about it?

Well, seeing as I was kid when it happened, I learned about it later. Do you think convicting them of a crime they weren't guilty of was okay? That's what this thread is about.

Also, I definitely don't celebrate watching the knockout game. It's disgusting.

Maybe that's what it's about to you and him, but noone here celebrates a miscarriage of justice or thinks they deserved it just by guilt of association.

Noone whose opinion on basically anything is worth taking into account anway. His or their point which you may or may not be capable of grasping is that they were likely complicit in some of the crimes that night otherwise they wouldn't have been there (they didn't have to keep hanging out with the mob); you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time but that doesn't mean you deserve what happened to these people, which noone here supported...

all things considered, a few million is pretty good compensation because if you are someone who hangs around to watch crimes being committed, irrespective of you actually committing them, it's unlikely you do anything worthwhile with your life and now hopefully these people can in spite of the injustice done to them.

Maybe they did not do any of the crimes outside of the ones they where falsely accused of that night. But if they hung around the same group for a period of time (not saying they where gang bangers), but being around that type behavior over time, you can't tell me they have not partaken in such crimes.
They did not assault or rape that woman that night, and may not have not committed a act of violence that night at all, but hanging with the crowd they where hanging with, they did where not angels by no means, and i am certain they have acted violently with the same group they where associated with.

I said convicting them of rape was wrong.

They were wilding.

I wished Sean would have been there.

Jesus Christ. Are you guys serious?

Not a single one of us would trade a few million to have our childhood/young adult life snatched up and thrown in jail for multiple years for a crime we didn’t commit.

You psychos sound like you’ve watched the Minority Report too many times. Yeah. Let’s go ahead and lock teenagers up because you think they MIGHT commit a crime later in life.

I made the mistake of watching the first 30 minutes and won't watch the rest, primarily because it is poorly scripted and acted but overall this is clearly propaganda and frankly pathetic, would qualify better as a mockumentary than a documentary.

Opening back story pictures innocent and angelic faced youths, doing typical and highly relatable teenager things like flirting with girls, then deciding to join a random mob of other youths for just 10 minutes because hey, they might be goin' to play ball. Then all 40 of them take up the entirety of the park's crosswalk forcing the inconsiderate white bicyclists to just barrel through them which leads us to the inciting incident, a barely visible and identifiable as white person is beaten on (he presumably deserves it given how rude the cyclist was earlier for not getting off his bike and walking it by the teens) for what is clearly a racist hate crime but ofcourse our protagonists in the story, of whom we have been sympathetically introduced, disapprove of such action and are then immediately bludgeoned by the police as they try to escape the sirens.

Yeah, right... that's what happened, thanks for insulting the viewer Netflix to shamelessly promote your divisive agenda. I'm all for those individuals who suffered unjustly because of this to sell their story and make some coin, but shame on you Netflix for profiteering off of them to promote your divisive, distorted worldview and agenda on an ignorant audience. This story as depicted could only make sense to racists who believe in the lies of systemic oppression, or that everyone must be prejudiced because some flawed pseudoscience tells them so.

I am always serious and this is a serious manner.

I would not trade 7-10 years of my youth personally for millions of dollars no, I also was not on a direct path towards destruction like these youths were if they were wantonly enjoying the drama of watching crimes being committed.

Given that it was the case they they were likely troubled youths, this outcome for them probably benefited them, maybe even saved their lives... but that's all speculation and neither here nor there, I wish them the best.

Do not try to strawman me or call me names, neither of those tactics will achieve the desired result you are looking for. If you want to have a serious discussion, I am all for it... but you are going to have to do better than that, much better than failed attempts to mischaracterize my point.

Perhaps I am unduly harsh there... but if you fail to understand my point, tell me first and then I will expand on it, creating a straw man to beat down does nothing but weaken the discourse overall contrary to what you may believe, it is not an effective tactic of debate.

If you think falsely imprisoning teenagers for a crime they didn’t commit was beneficial to them, you’re not worth talking to. Saved their lives? Really?

Unbelievable. This has to be a parody account.

It is a more nuanced point, but no I do not support your straw man and yes, talking to me may be of no worth to you, but that is entirely up to you.

You have to drop the if>then>hyperbole to strawman line of "reasoning" if I am going to talk with you.

Jesus Christ.

You said it man!@

Maybe lighten the mood with a little humor. But you are jumping to conclusions to extrapolate the conclusion you did from my post.

Massively jumping to conclusions.

Incidentally, that is precisely what happens when you see racism everywhere, blame race for everything ... you have been fed a lie and your biases confirm it wherever you look, because you want it to... you have to believe I support some absurd position that you keep trying to formulate as a parody account or whatever machinations in your mind.

no one in the history of mankind has been oppressed less than the modern american, that goes for any race.

Some of you need to garner your opinion from the facts of the case, and not the Netflix piece.
The boys were definitely part of beating and robbing that night, the rape is what is in question. 4 of the 5 admitted to holding her down while a stranger raped her, the confessions were very similar. That being said, there was no dna found from any of the 5.
It's also deplorable to detain and treat juveniles like that.
There were also 3 prominent attorneys assigned to go over the case and all the evidence. They all agreed that they most likely did it.

It is amazing how a filmmaker can work people into a frenzy about something they know nothing about. Artist can be powerful.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sean here is indeed Shaun, since the latter is certainly a racist incapable of serious and impartial thought.

So these guys weren't even that innocent and didn't just watch multiple hate crimes be committed? You'd think surely they would be innocent to receive 40 mil and Netflix if they weren't pretty damn innocent?

Yeah, so all things considered.. if those are the facts, then what happened to them is pretty damn lucky and remarkable of an outcome, which I would take do not pass go if I was them; lets hope they redeem themselves and turn that in to some good instead of just fanning the flames of racial hatred and prejudice some are so readily to exploit and profit from.

Can't trust people who don't care about truth.

Prefer propaganda over reality, because the lies sustain the ideology when the truth can't.

The more I read about this from as varied sources as possible, the more clear it is how despicable you actual racists and netflix have become. It's not ok to lie to further your agenda; tthe ends don't justify the means. If you really actually care about the issues you claim to, you need to take a good long look in the mirror first...

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt as just being deluded and misguided, but the reality is much worse than that... you are part of the problem, not the solution and for people who actually care, it's disheartening to realize so many of you still exist today. Society failed you... your parents failed you... you are failing yourselves.

What exactly is it any of us said that is so egregious to you? It certainly wasn't racist.

Sean I know from previous interactions to be racist and profoundly misled on most issues he opines on, he is probably beyond hope... Shaun I know of him to be a racializer and racist profiteer, like netflix is becoming apparently.

You I have sympathy for, but what you do in my estimation is fish for some nefarious motive because you assume people that don't hold your views must harbor some secret ill intent... the reality is the whole reason you have to strawman to make an argument is because the truth is against you, and you cannot fight the truth on it's own terms. In stead of coming to terms with reality and dealing with it as such, you seek to find some gotcha! so you can go on believing the lie, to protect the deeply and emotionally held lie.

3 days ago I thought the central park 5 were a bunch of kids who went to jail for a crime they didn't commit 30 years ago because hey, central park is big and sometimes you are in the wrong place at the wrong time and the justice system ain't perfect... today I know the reality is much murkier, much more sinister and the egregious part of all this is that it is regressive, not progressive which the end result is invariably the exact opposite of the goal you claim to support. I want to know the truth, and in finding it here it's pretty damn repulsive and yes egregious all around to decent people.

Sean still has not answered my question. Of course he has disappeared. Huh, guess it was too hot in the kitchen for him. It is funny how when people debate with facts and not beliefs or their tinted glasses, he runs away and takes his ball (soccer i am sure), and goes home. You can not defeat facts in a debate Sean / Shawn. No matter how hard you try to twist it.

He can call you a racist though. Even though the description of the young men wilding was all Black youths.

Docu-Series on the Central Park 5. Extremely hard to watch, but a great depiction of what happened. Worth it in the end....but still a rough watch.
We just watched the first episode. It makes me so angry, I literally could almost scream.

Huh? The fact you would frame a docu-series on one of the most impactful cases on juvenile law as me just wanting to watch the "white devil" is moronic. 5 kids.... 5 freaking kids were locked up for 18 hours being assaulted, berated, coerced and traumatized without council, without their parents present. They were then convicted of a crime that contained absolutely no physical evidenced and ultimately spent 5-13 years locked up for something they did not do. Four attempted to appeal and lost. Then they got to split a freaking 45 million dollar settlement 5 ways which is nowhere near enough for one of the largest miscarriages of justice this country have ever seen. I don't give a damn about their color, but somehow it seems par for the course they were black and this happened. So sit down and shut up you incompetent ***. You may not like that **** like this IS A REALITY, A HORROR MOVIE for people who are black even today, but that doesn't change the fact that this is true.... and it continues to happen today.

Yes. It happens to people of ALL races.

This exactly. Couldn’t have said it better.

Clearly a propaganda hit piece only created to further a narrative. And we all know what that narrative is.

Every white person is racist and evil and wants to frame and condemn all black people to the death penalty.

Truly degrades and takes away from an actual true injustice. To make it comply to some different altogether agenda is a disservice to those boys. And it is being perpetrated by exactly the people who so strongly proclaim to be their champions.
