Where does MLB get all this money to pay these ridiculous contracts?

Past couple of days, there have been contracts handed out for something like 7 years and 245 million dollars.

How the hell is this possible?

I went to 2 Reds games last year and each time there were about 100 in attendance. TV revenue must be through the roof!

Surely it's "solely" beer sales, right? That's all you ever here on here. Most important thing on earth.

Craft beer was $14 at GABP last season.

These teams make a ton off TV revenue. Think about how much UK football brings in off TV. I watch the Reds every night....thats 162 games v 12. Do the math.

Yeah hit 275 and you are a star .. I'll pass , havent watched baseball in 10 years almost.
Without watching baseball for a decade how do you know this? Nevermind, you're absolutely correct. And the thing that gets me is the number of star players like this who are clearly benefitting from hitting within a strong lineup. Say the 6th or 7th most productive bat in the lineup but one of the biggest stars in the league, and while spending a considerable amount of time on the injured list each season. Some of these players have other superb qualities, often defensive nightmares to other lineups. But their main quality is marketability, the next A-rod, the next Ozzie, the next super smooth left hand swing (Griffey). All it takes is a little bit of big achievement, goes a long way in today's game.

As for Cole, he earned his pay, but no way he has another cumulative season 85% as good as the one he just recorded with Houston. Ever. And for the Yankees to go 9 more years on a pitcher who will turn 30 this coming season. That's the crazy part. I would have thought 7. But if they win a couple of world series with him? Or say they win 3. No way are they thinking just one. And no way are they not thinking next year.

324 million to Cole from the Yankees. Wow.
Seriously? Damn...that's crazy.

I like baseball (StL) but how long can MLB survive pumping out that kind of money? There are only so many teams that truly bring in a large number of fans game after game along with the rest of the revenue stuff. If there isn't eyeballs on the games, then it will falter.

Reds aren't paying anyone like that.

The deal in baseball is every team owns their own distribution outside of the games of the week on Fox and ESPN. The Reds make most of their money on the FS1 TV games and their radio network. They make more money when they're winning because people come to games and then they will pay a bit more to keep crucial palyers. When a team like the Reds has a good player and they are not winning and people aren't coming to the games they have no option but to trade them for farm talent because they can't let them walk for free in free agency. Teams with big national support and huge local TV netowrks and radio followings can basically do what they want. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers fall in this category. The Reds would do better spending $10 million on scouting and analytics staff than they would on a player IMO because they have to be well managed. They don't have enough money to make management mistakes.

Golf. Hands down.

But WTF do they do on their days off?
PRACTICE...Love golf, but it requires a lot of devotion to practice. It's baseball. Tell me another sport where you can do something 30-.333% of the time , become a millionaire and a potential Hall of Famer.
