Good enough to be P5 or No?

Actually looks pretty good to me for both football and basketball. I would say yes to P5 right about even with the ACC.

With the right circumstances I could see 5 ranked in football
TCU Baylor Houston BYU WVU

And 8 NCAA Tournament teams
Baylor Kansas Iowa State WVU Cincinnati Memphis UConn Temple

You can't just eliminate Texas Tech from the fold. Good BB, but
football would have to play power non conference games every year.

Clearly ranked 5th in perception. It would still be called the Big12 because Texas and Oklahoma don't get to take the name with them. Who knows if TT and OSU get to tag along with big brothers or if Kansas goes to the Big12? Maybe, maybe not. Temple wouldn't make my list because football has dreadful support. Not sure you would need 14 schools either. Colorado State, USF and Tulane are still out there too - if they are being considered now why wouldn't they be in the future? This is a worst case scenario. It is pretty bad, but it would clearly be the 5th ranked conference and yes P5 if there is still a 5 after a P. Is it safe from being raided? Wouldn't count on it. The ACC could still lose teams in another round of conference shuffling and they might need some replacements. If the ACC did lose teams, they might not look a whole lot better than this new Big12 conference, depending on who they might lose. Don't know if a conference like this makes any money, or gets a TV package that isn't awful though.

If BIG 12 teams were dropped like that then it would be difficult to remain "P5". The money disparity alone would be huge. The "P4" would obviously try to lock it out of playoff access.

Can't imagine the outcry from WVU and other BIG 12 fans who are determined to stop expansion with two of these schools, if a large majority of the schedule were made up of such a schedule.

It isn't exactly in our control. Texas and Oklahoma have the power to leave (if the GOR is navigated) whether or not they have the power to get votes for expansion or the power to block it. They have the power to live with the decision to expand or not also. If they stay, such a patched up conference will never happen. If they leave it is pretty much inevitable. That's the way I see it. I have no idea how Texas and Oklahoma see it. I personally do not see the BIG12 competing financially with the Big12 and the SEC whether they expand or not. If they can clamp down on their pride enough to accept third place as a nice goal, then we have a shot at staying together and being successful, whether they expand or not. They really don't have to beat or equal the BIG10 or the SEC. I don't think the PAC12 or the ACC have expectations to beat out the SEC and the Big10. They just want to be better than the BIG12.

There was a lot of doom and gloom when the Big East was imploding, but Oliver Luck got WVU into the Big 12. Who knows? Maybe WVU will land on its feet again, as it has for most of its modern existence.

Meanwhile, we have a Missouri and BYU team to beat and a Big 12 schedule to try to do better than middle of the road against.
