Hopefully KAT will be Turpin like by the end of the year. He has the ability but is adjusting to the college game. Cal has been working hard to establish the low block especially the last 2 games. GBB

KAT is on the Cal crash course for big men this year. He is seeing it every day in practice and he's coming along.

Am I wrong that KAT played mostly facing the basket prior to coming to UK?

I lived down the street from him for a long time and didn't know it until maybe a year before he passed away. I saw him out when I was walking my Great Danes one day and he made some comment about their size. I joked back that I thought they'd look normal to him. I didn't want to bug him with basketball talk, thinking by now he's had enough of it. Now I wish I had...

Can you tell me the final score or our next game and the Super Bowl so I can call my bookie in Vegas?

I think I see what you're trying to do. The "it" in my first sentence points to my first statement of living down the street from him for a long time. Therefore, I discovered I lived down the street from Melvin Turpin sometime in 2009, which would be about a year before he passed away.

So, a figurative swing and a miss?

He was such a good player when he was in shape. He had a great touch on his turn around jumper in the lane and he could step out and hit a 20 footer easy. He would get such good position on the block and back then Hall demanded the ball run through the post. the guards knew the passing angles much better than today.

Exactly KMKAT, these kids were stars in HS more because they were competing against players two steps slower and a foot shorter than themselves than because of their own talent. I had to laugh at the recruiting video of Skal Labissiere. He may be great, probably is, but the opponents he was playing against on that video looked like grade school kids. Everybody here should be prepared for a learning curve when he arrives - just like Kat is now.

Mel Turpin, a really good player that won't be forgotten by Cat fans that saw him play.

If you needed points in the paint, Sherwin-Williams could always get you a bucket. He always knew how to finish. Still remember him in his prime.
