Wheres the excitement?

Why isn't there more talk on these boards about matchups? I have made several post about games and no ones seems to care. Is it because regular season just doesn't mean crap anymore except for seeding purposes? The old fashioned winning ones regular season district title has gone the way of polyester coaching shorts of the 1970s. It's all about points where teams with horrible records can still make playoffs because they played up and collected points for losing. Is that part of it? I still see enthusiasm on Friday night tv coverage but not much on Preps anymore. What is the next big matchup at any level in the Lynchburg/Roanoke/Danville area?

It might be because of the gap between the top 4-6 teams and the bottom 6-8 teams is so great in each region. Only 2C has a team with a winning record after the 5th spot. Not too many "big" games on the schedule because of the lack of competitiveness from the bottom. Then you schedule non-district games hoping to create a rivalry and those teams don't always match-up well (too good or too bad), so that turns into a flop.

If you're a top 5 team, it's hard to get excited about winning 35-0. If you're a bottom 5 team it's hard to get excited about losing 35-0 or playing another 2-5 record team.

The stands are still packed at Union games, but with the exception of a couple of teams, the overall excitement is down a little.

I'm sure all the negative publicity that football gets these days isn't helping much either.

Thanks. I think you may be correct in your analysis

I would not bet my last dollar on this game. Being a Glass alumni I still have gut feeling JF wins.

The top 8 Region B teams have winning records I believe. Maybe RELee is .500 but the rest are above that.

Hmm...I don't know if they updated that or I looked at an old one, but I remember there being 5. Looks like there are 7 now. That would definitely make B the most competitive region in 2.

I believe all the excitement from the past 3 years was great and we had a lot of good and competitive discussions on here , it’s just appo has dominated the 2a the past seasons 48-2 including this year so far , everyone is just still in shock of what the raiders have done as they should be , they just keep on rolling along , will be interesting to see how the discussion goes as the season gets closer to playoff time , raiders proved that home field reall does not mean much so seeding are just a number . Everyone give your opinions on this .

With Appo losing Scruggs, several other seniors and potentially having to travel to a great team like Glenvar to win Region C, don't be shocked if Appo doesn't win their region. No doubt they could, but I'd have to say Glenvar is favorite.

Radford isn't a pushover by any means either

You could be right BIG , just don’t know if they know how to win the big games , but have not seen them play this year , last year they were just very predictable on play calling , you have got to able to throw the ball some to keep it mixed up some .

I think that 6 teams have the right to be the favorites in their respective regions at this point. A: Poquoson and Goochland, B: Central and East Rockingham C: Appomattox (3 time champs, still have to be favorite in theirs until beaten) D: Ridgeview

I am not saying those are the teams that will win, certainly hope a certain team in B is the champs if they get in (and that isnt out of the question with a couple wins)

Appo is the King until someone knocks them out in 2A but Glenvar has won some "big" games over the past 5 years including finally beating Giles and winning a SC in 2014 before Appos 3 year run. Since then, the team has maintained a high level of play and has a comparable overall record to Appo since 2014.... last years game went down to the wire which tells me Glenvar was right there with a younger team. This years Glenvar team is seasoned, better balanced, less predictable, has an improved passing game, and great lines and defense. Best thing about this team is they are humble and hungry.

And the Region D team will be no pushover

That is a dangerous combination for sure!

This Raider team is very young and their best ball will come next year and the years after. They were hurt this year losing one game and the experience that each game provides is something they really need.
Lots to be learned as they play a good Williams Campbell team this Saturday and then a very good Gretna squad next Friday.
